The book is SO much better than the movies! Can’t believe it’s taken me over five decades to read this. Classic for a reason – Mark Twain has such a way with words.

I have heard about this American classic for so long, and I love other Twain books, I thought it was going to be the end all of end alls, but I was disappointed.

This book was hard to get into at first--the vocabulary and language is tough and gets you off track. However, the story-line is great. I love the newer adaptation of this book with Jonathan Taylor Thomas. The ending in the book is far better though, and of course the book is more detailed and the movie makes more sense in parts. Overall, I think this is a good book for adults and middle or high school students to read because it's about being young and finding yourself as you grow up.

A great classic tale filled with childhood memories and the innocence of naivety. Not that long of a read, it's a great tale for numerous mini-adventures to take on throughout the course of the novel. And what could make any child happier than actually finding that long sought-after buried treasure.

Tom Sawyer is a naughty child who lives in St Petersburg. One night, he goes to graveyard with his friend, Huck Finn to look ghosts. Then, they can't ghosts, but they see a murder scene.I think Tom is very mischievous child, but he is a brave boy. I like the scene that he explores a cave. I got excited. I want to meet him and travel many places with him.

I could stand to read this again, give it another shot. I just didn't like Tom or his adventures nearly as much as I did Huck and his.

Always preferred this to Huckleberry Finn--which puts me on the wrong side of just about everybody else's opinion. If the ending in the caves doesn't get your pulse racing, you probably don't have one. Found a beautiful like-new copy of the Heritage Edition, with color plates and numerous illustrations by Norman Rockwell.

I think I was supposed to read this in college. But never did. There were more important things to do like... (never mind). It was time to make up for the mistakes of my youth and take in a classic. That the audiobook was narrated by Nick Offerman was a bonus that moved Tom Sawyer to the top of my to-read list.

Never read this during all my school years so I thought I had to give it a shot. I was surprised. I found the book to be rather enjoyable and unlike many other "classics" that fail to live up to the hype. A great story and definitely a classic.

A classic tale of "boys will be boys". Personally, I preferred this to Huck Finn -- it's more genuine fun and adventure, without so much social commentary thrown at you as well. Highly recommended for young readers.

Excellent humor. Twain is pure wit and humor. The language carries you away. Oh, and if you think this is for young boys (it can be), you are mistaken. I really believe adults will get much more out of it than any young teen.

The title is pretty self-explanatory - although I read this book at least 5 years ago, I still remember loving it. The dialogue was slightly difficult for me to get through at the time, but it was everything a book should have: great characters, coherent storyline, and good narrative.

This novel is full of high adventure of the kind that has disappeared for most children today. Tom and friends are full of imaginative play that they carry out in the wooded areas around their town. They play hooky and trade in junk and have all kinds of superstitious explanations for the world around them. While this book doesn't have any profound themes, it pictures of way of life, mostly gone, in such vivid detail that it seems to come to life again.

Even tho we read Huck Fin first the kids really enjoyed this book. Shenanigans and trouble are always entertaining. And with less jargon than Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer seemed more straightforward.

A fun little book with some moments of wry humor. Interesting to note things that were not known about Africa and the Middle East when this was written. The story itself is not believable, but with this author, I never thought it was supposed to be.

This was my first book by Mark Twain.. and I liked it!! It's a great read.... you hardly see/hear such adventurous episodes now... the time and space for the kids is gone... Injun Joe epsiode is little too harsh on the Tom and Huck but that adds more real touch to it. it's very addictive reading.. can't stop until you finish the book. It's got all the right things in a book - lots of adventures, mischief, childhood romance, conviction! Great read. I must read Huckleberry Finn whenever possible.

I can't really say this novel caught my attention as I really found nothing to sympathize with either characters (Tom or Huck) and outside of some "goings-on" in their lives, there was no real hook to the story. Maybe today's life is so far-removed from those days that they seem rather prehistoric, but even as a piece of "history" (fictional or otherwise) I wasn't particularly entertained.

I read this for the first time when I was 7 or 8 years old and it has been one of my favorites ever since. I loved the character of Tom Sawyer and the story. The story appealed to me because it's a combination of adventure, imagination and youthfulness. A classic!

This was my first Mark Twain read. My sister hates his books so I thought I should read one to see why. I can understand why she doesn't like his style of writing, but I rather liked it! I envy Tom's childhood, except the whole being stalked by a murderer bit. He had lots of fun and its cool that Tom's character is based on other boys Mr. Twain knew and his own childhood.
