INTRODUCTION

A young woman sat thinking about how she would never be able to call her mom on the telephone again. She cried uncontrollably because the reality of her mother’s death was too much for her to comprehend. She began to speak out loud, hoping her mother would hear her, when suddenly she felt an overwhelming presence next to her. She truly believed it was her mother comforting her.

This young woman was me the day my mother died fourteen years ago. But was my mother really present in my living room? If she was by my side, then what transformation had occurred that allowed her to make contact with me? This is the type of question that Eternity’s Secret tries to answer.

Over the centuries, the eschatological ideas of bodily resurrection, immortality, and eternity have been dependent on time. If time doesn’t exist, then endless time is a myth. Therefore, in order to uncover the truth about humanity’s ultimate destiny, it is necessary to first determine whether time is real. Then, the next step is to figure out whether time is just a temporal measurement of change or a separate dimension in a parallel plane of existence. If there is sufficient proof that time is another dimension, then eternity, defined as endless time, is a definite possibility. And concurrently, the theological equivalent of eternity, everlasting life, is ultimately possible as well.

The idea for this book was conceived several years ago when I was a graduate student at Harvard Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I had an intense curiosity about time that led me down a path of exploring what the Bible and science have to say about the subject. I studied biblical exegesis, physics, early Christianity, gnosticism (the study of revelatory knowledge), and world religions. After graduating with a master’s degree in theological studies, I began documenting the ideas I had regarding time and continued doing biblical and scientific research over the years. I finally reached a point where I decided to write a book focusing on the insights and knowledge I had acquired from my scholarly pursuits. Eternity’s Secret: What the Bible and Science Have to Say about Time is the finished product.

The aim of this endeavor is to interpret relevant biblical passages regarding time within a scientific and philosophical framework. In particular, the application of Albert Einstein’s theories of general and special relativity plays an important role in trying to decipher hidden meanings within the scriptures as they relate to advanced concepts of time, including seeing the future, time travel, immortality, and eternity.

Albert Einstein (1879-1955) was the world renowned German-born theoretical physicist and scientist. His theory of general relativity deals with the effect of gravity on time known as gravitational time dilation. This concept means time runs slower when in a higher gravitational intensity. For example, the closer a clock is to the source of gravity, the more slowly time passes. On the other hand, Einstein’s theory of special relativity postulates that space and time are one. The speed of light in a vacuum is the same no matter the speed of the observer. Therefore, events that occur at the same time for one observer could occur at different times for another.

Einstein’s theories also set the stage for exploring the possibility of time travel. Special relativity focuses on the speed of light and general relativity claims light and space will bend in a gravitational field. According to Einstein it is this space-time warp that can make time travel possible. Presently American theoretical physicist, Ronald Mallett, is working on plans for a time machine utilizing light to manipulate time. He claims a ring laser produces a circulating ray of light that bends space thus forming a loop in time. Mallett is a Research Professor of Physics at the University of Connecticut.

Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) was a brilliant Serbian American inventor who disagreed with some aspects of Einstein’s theory of relativity. For example, Tesla believed cosmic rays traveled faster than the speed of light and could be harnessed for electrical power. Tesla speculated that he could invent an anti-gravity object that could fly. He said high amounts of electricity could cause an object to lift off of the ground. It has also been rumored that Tesla made a breakthrough in the space-time continuum and may have invented time viewing technology. We will similarly explore modern scientific discoveries like the God particle. This particle is a tiny bit of matter that was formed by interacting with an invisible force throughout the universe called the Higg’s field. Scientists believe when particles interact with this field they acquire mass, which slows them down, and allows them to form matter like planets and stars. It is named after the physicist, Peter Higgs, who in 1964 suggested the existence of a God particle. Theoretically if the mass of particles can be switched off, they can achieve light speed.

And ultimately Jesus demonstrated advanced scientific theories during his ministry. In particular, we see different examples of physics in many of the miracles performed by Jesus. We will take a closer look at Jesus’s ability to see Peter’s future, to turn water into wine, to raise the dead, to walk on water, to transform into a radiant being, to resurrect from the dead, to walk through locked doors, and to ascend into heaven. Each of these miracles is related to superior futuristic knowledge. Thus I attempt to create a new paradigm of time by utilizing established scientific principles to expand upon and bring to light the awe inspiring revelations of scriptures.

The Bible is the key to unlocking the code of time in order to reveal eternity’s secret. The physical world manifests illusions regarding time as a measurement of change rather than a dimensional reality. In order to delve deep into the essence of the fourth dimension, it is necessary to look beyond the human inventions of calendars and clocks to comprehend time as eternal.
