Different Cultures, Mixing Colours: Australian Aboriginal Colouring in Book with a Difference
()
About this ebook
The objective of our design is to help people from other cultures to accept our culture and let them know there's nothing to be afraid because beauty also comes from within aboriginal people.
Most importantly, this is our way of telling aboriginal children to have pride in themselves and their culture no matter what and to hang on to the pride they were born with. We believe this is one step toward reconciliation.
Roberta Walton
I’LL INTRODUCE MYSELF THE WAY I DO TO THE CHILDREN, “Hi! I’M VAL”, MY REASONS FOR DOING THIS IS TO MAKE THEM FEEL COMFORTABLE.ALL MY YOUNG LIFE I WAS TOLD WE WERE EQUAL, BUT AS I GREW OLDER I REALIZED THAT JUST BY BEING IN THE MISSION WAS A CONTRADICTION TO THOSE TEACHINGS.I AM A MULTICULTURAL PERSON AND I AM PROUD OF MY ANCESTORS BOTH BLACK AND WHITE BECAUSE THEY HAD THE COURAGE TO GO AGAINST ALL ODDS AND SEE HUMAN BEINGS AND NOT COLOUR.
