year 6’s in regional schools are discovering creative ways to learn about regional historical characters through the History Here filmmaking project, an initiative of Bathurst children’s book author and literacy consultant Paul Stafford and Orange filmmaker Vince Lovecchio.
They start in the classroom by asking children to volunteer ideas and help create a script about a historical character from their area, helping students find ways to retell that person’s journey through problem solving and discussion.
