About this ebook

My Poems My Paintings is an anthology of poems of various genres in English written way back in 1971. He uses poetry as an apt mode of creative self-expression in the area of literary arts. Apart from their lyrical value, these verses on diverse subjects and themes carry the authors philosophic outlook that persistently puts his highly individualized experiences in the universal context, making him a modern-day rishi (seer) of far-reaching consequence. His lifes oeuvre in poetry has four thousand poems, and in painting, nearly three thousand creations. Distinguished by the enormity of quantum, originality, sustained high quality, and amazing versatility, all his creations are couched in what he calls holistic humanism.

He insists that we humans must wean consciousness from money-mindedness to moneyed-mindedness to become our pathfinders to the realm of lifes spiritual realities.

It carries substantial and diverse material that will benefit the modern-day youth in getting rid of many illusions that cloud wits and prevent them from seeing Gods most precious gift (soul) lodged inside the eye-catching wrappings (body) that mislead us into blind alleys of maverick ambition. It is not unlikely that it will inspire some to discover their own native creativity and conscientiously develop it to full potential.

    AND ORDER MUST CREATE

TIME HATH WANDERED ALL ALONE THRO’

    THE CAPRICE OF OPINIONS

AH! ITS AIRY GRACE, LIGHTNESS ‘N’ POISE!

    SCIENCE, ART, PHILOSOPHY

    MACHINES and ME

LIKE A FLY DO THEY WELCOME ME

THAT TAKES MAN OUT ON A JOURNEY

    RHYTHM, RHYTHM, RHYTHM…

    THE SILENCE

    A PROPHET IS A MADMAN…

MEN ARE BUT CIRCLES WHICH INTERSECT

    CLOUD and MAN

    AND LOGIC SEEKS

    O MAN is THE PROBLEM!

OH! IF ONLY TO SAY JUST ONCE

    BUT AREN’T DEWDROPS

    MIND IS THE WINDOW…

    I CUT MY HEART

    ATTENTION!

    REVELATION

    THE SEA O’ DEATH

    HOW LITTLE YOU KNOW!!

    MEDITATION

    NEVER WILL NONE!?

    SELF-KNOWLEDGE

    THE BIG ZERO

    BUT HE INSPIRES AWE

    That ‘what is’—SHALL BE

    THRO’ EYE INTO THE EAR

For, Truth is a LIVING FORCE

    THEN, UN-TARNISHED LITTLE SOULS

    THE CAPTIVE and THE FREE

AND DRINK DEEP FROM LIFE’S BRIMFUL CUP

    MAJESTIC FLOWS A STREAM

    THERE WAS NO OTHER WAY

    THIS FATAL SURVIVAL

    THE PLEASURE PRINCIPLE

WHEN SOME BIRTH HITHER TAKES PLACE

    LIFE IS ONE UNENDING OPPORTUNITY

    FOR TRUTH’S NATURE IS TIMELESS

BUT YOU NEEDN’T TAKE ME SERIOUSLY

FOR HUMANITY ALONE CANST THERE BE BLISS

    SUBLIME INTIMACY

    THE IMMUTABLE

    FEEL, now, FREE

    AH! MY WELL-MEANING, WORTHY FOES

    THE LAST-NAMED IS HIGHER

YET THERE IS SOMETHING IN MAN

AGE PUTS ITS SENSE ON GUARD

    INTO THE POETIC FRENZY

    IN AWED REVERENCES A HAND…

    BREAK OUT OF THE MOULD

    ONCE PICTURED WITHIN IT

    RAINS

    LOOK! GOD IS

    MINDLESS SILENCES

    PREJUDICES

    The LEPER

    GOD IS EVERYWHERE

    STRUGGLE FOR ATTENTION

UNTIL I ACHIEVE A STATE OF PURITY

O THERE IS JOY IN EVERYTHING...

    A FORMLESS SILHOUETTE

    O WORLD LEAVE ME ALONE

    BY SMART PHONES’ CRAZY HAZE

    THE LANGUAGE OF BEING ALIVE

MY THOUGHT IS MY GREATEST CHALLENGE

NOR IS IT EVER TOO LONG

    DAWN o’ TRUTH

    KNOWLEDGE IS LIVING

    SELF -KNOWLEDGE

O THESE HOLY HOUSES OF GOD!

AND YET IS LIGHT ‘n’ FREE

    BUT VERY FEW, IF EVER

A SINLESS MATE, IN WAITING, DIEST

    WITH APOLOGIES TO RABINDRANATH TAGORE

    A MYRIAD LIVELY LIVES

    SO THAT MY DEAD BODY

    THE CHRIST-less RELIGION

    TEMPTATION IS BEING PROVOKED

SHE’S MY DAUGHTER: I’M HER SON!

    TO LIVEN UP HISTORY

    NEW YEAR EVE

    IT NEEDS A BURNING EYE

    SHE SETS ME ON FIRE

    THRO’ THE WINDOW

    HIPPIES

    A PINCH OF PERFECTION

CHANGING THE SAINT, SPACE, ‘N’ STRAW

    MAN ASPIRES TO BE MAN

    ENLIGHTENED petty MEN

    ODE TO LOVE

    THE FAMILY OF MAN

    Man or Machines

    LET’S KEEP ourselves YOUNG

    BY HIS SOULFUL MUNIFICENCE

    THERE IS HOPE IN DESPAIR

    INTRODUCTION

64 Fine Arts have been enumerated in the great Indian tradition of art and culture that extols them to the stature of Divinity. Our chief gods Lord Rama and Lord Krishna are referred to as chaudaih kala sampoorn [Master of 14 Arts] and solaih kala sampoorn [Master of 16 Arts], respectively. POETRY tops the list, with the next four in descending order being: Music, Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. In ancient times, everything in India was written in Poetry because of its unique mnemonic, or easy-to-remember, quality. This was crucial because all knowledge had to be committed to memory and transmitted from mouth to ear—in the absence of printing facilities. The other extraordinary and universal attribute of Poetry is its unmatched succinctness, which it achieves by making extraordinarily long jumps with the use of apt metaphors I call musical stenographic units of language—language being the greatest invention of the human genius. I regard Poetry to be the ‘Language of Prophecy’: all prophets are poets although all poets are not prophets.

Poetry for me is the most wonderful of all art-forms which have been so far devised by man. It is distinguished by a unique informality, spontaneity, and freedom
