About this ebook

Jesus Loves Me: A Follow-Up Guide for Children is a four-session study guide designed to help younger believers grow in Christ. Based on the words of a popular children’s song, Jesus Loves Me is the younger believer’s first phase of follow-up and introduces the new convert to the basics of Christianity. The four sessions include the reading content of instructive opening paragraphs, fill-in-the-blank questions, matching, some memorization, and some writing. All answers are included in the back of the text. The minimal qualifications needed to use the follow-up materials as a discipler are as follows: the discipler must be a believer, and the discipler must be able to read.

Filled with scripture, the lessons in this interactive book include training notes for the discipler and studies on the following topics: a review of the salvation experience, sin, the gospel, assurance, scripture memorization, spiritual growth, prayer, the Bible, witnessing, living the Christ life, the Lord’s return, guarding against temptation, church attendance, baptism, the Lord’s supper, church membership, and fellowship with other believers. Also, a lesson on how to study the Bible is included at the end of the book.

Other discipleship books by Keith D. Pisani include Spiritual Lessons for New Believers, Spiritual Lessons for Growing Believers, and Spiritual Lessons for Growing Believers Workbook. All three are published by WestBow Press.

    Introduction

    Perhaps the most recognizable children’s song of all time is the following.

    Jesus loves me— This I know,

    For the Bible tells me so;

    Little ones to Him belong—

    They are weak, but He is strong.

    Refrain:

    Yes, Jesus loves me!

    Yes, Jesus loves me!

    Yes, Jesus loves me!

    The Bible tells me so.¹

    Based on the words of this time-honored song, my wife and I have developed a follow-up guide for children who have recently received Jesus Christ as Savior. Most follow-up studies are designed for use with adults. Since Jesus said, Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 19:14), we sensed the importance of producing a follow-up guide that children can understand.

    Children need discipled just as much as any other age group. They are the future of the church. By using this follow-up guide for children, you are helping the next generation grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18).

    May God bless the lives of all who study God’s Word for the purpose of growth. My prayer is that all who participate in this Jesus Loves Me study will practice the Word-centered life. Enjoy your time in God’s Word.²

    Training Notes for the Discipler

    Just as physical babies should not be left on the doorstep to fend for themselves, neither should spiritual babies be left to grow on their own. Paul’s approach to discipleship was "as a nurse cherisheth her children: so being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you,
