Part One (1949): describes the enigma of a workman, sugarcane chopper, farmer, womanizer, quarrelsome in drunkenness, friend of friends, and fathered nine children.

Second Part (1951): describes the sorrows and embittered sacrifices of an old lady. She pours out painful tears that break her spirit. She has to deal with her sons departure to the military service. The United States is at war with North Korea and the Puerto Ricans youths residing in the Island are required to comply with the draft.

Third Part (1971): the heaviness and angst of the old lady continues a few years later. Two of her sons are fighting in a jungle, challenging a fearsome enemy. The tour of duty for each son increases her sorrow arduously.

Fourth Part (present time): the smallest of seven children immigrated to New York City. Finding himself alone, he challenges the adversity and breaks barriers of illiteracy. He idolizes the illusion of entering college. He is strongly advised to continue his trade (construction worker). He doesnt have integrity to acknowledge the studies of science and mathematics. He has no training or education. He is determined to make his dream a reality.

José Adín Oliveras emigró a los Estados de la Unión a temprana edad. Realizó estudios de ingeniería electro-mecánica y es galardonado con un certificado de honor en la ciencia de mecánica. Se graduó con un bachillerato en la Universidad de Nueva York City College. Obtuvo licencia de inspector de viviendas por el estado de Nueva York. Trabajó para la autoridad de vivienda ejerciendo el título: supervisor de construcción. Después de veintisiete años de servicio, se retira. Su entretenimiento: escribir ensayos sobre su inolvidable Puerto Rico, la pintura al óleo y amante a la lectura de veleros antiguos y de piratas navegando el mar Caribe e inmensos contornos de islotes.
