    Introduction

The first edition of our journal appears to provide avenue for academics;teachers at universities in all over the world to write their new research papers. This Journal particularly aims at publishing the finest peer- reviewed research in all fields of science, arts and technology on the basis of its originality, importance, interdisciplinary interest, timeliness, accessibility, elegance and surprising conclusions.

International New Research Journal (smi-mid-year), is a world wide based publishers, publishing peer-reviewed open-access model with innovation approaches to address the problems in the current scholarly publishing system at the world wide level. It provides benefit to the scholars and scientists, universities and research institutions, and independent researchers all around the world.

This edition contains seven research papers; the first one basically intended to investigate how irony is pragmatically communicated in the aforementioned cartoons in relation to inference

Processes. The second research paper mentions a mathematical model for the water emissivity and reflection coefficient for different polarization states has developed in an attempt to compare measured data with those resulting from the theoretical model.

The third one makes it clear high degree of malocclusion in P-Thalassemia patients. There was significant differences in oral hygiene between thalassemic patients and control group.

Whereas the forth research paper concentrate on the novel Jane Eyre largely deals with morality, both in showing moral faults in some of the characters and showing moral developments of Jane Eyre and also Mr. Rochester. People and events affect the development of the main characters.

However, the fifth one attempts to investigate the semantic meanings of the word touch in English and Arabic religious texts. It also demonstrates points of similarity and difference between the two languages.

The sixth research paper Ferrites can have several distinct crystal structures and it exhibit ferromagnetism, which can defined as phenomenon by which a material can exhibit a spontaneous magnetization.

The final one it is hypothesized that Arabic religious text shows an extensive usage of rhetorical questions. After the analysis, the study has found out that Arabic use more Rhetorical Questions with great variations of their functions than English. Approximately, in Al Fadakiya sermon, each sentence can be considered as a Rhetorical Question.

All articles are subjected to a double blind peer- review process. Manuscripts are invited from academicians researchers practitioners for publication consideration in all areas. We will also consider work that has been presented at conferences (significant amount of changes should be made before submission to the journal and proper citation of the conference paper is required).

With pleasure we invite you to contribute research paper/article to International New Research Journal. In the same time we encourage academics and practitioners in any discipline to submit research papers, current book reviews or any ideas for journal improvement.

Asst. Lect. Ramia Fu’ad Abdulazeez (Ph.D. Student)

This paper is concerned with pragmatically approaching irony in American political cartoons. However, this pragmatic approach is not meant to involve all the well-known pragmatic issues such as speech acts, politeness, etc. What is basically intended is to investigate how irony is pragmatically communicated in the aforementioned cartoons in relation to inference processes. Nevertheless, this paper extends its concern to finding out what functions irony performs in the domains of the genre investigated, i.e. American political cartoons. In order to achieve these aims, the relevant literature about the meanings, types and functions of irony will be reviewed.

    1. Irony: Definition, Types, and Functions

    1.1 Definition

When venturing to find a suitable definition for what irony is, being ‘lost in the jungle’ has been felt. This is mainly because so many definitions are put forward to reveal the identity of irony. This is supported by what Hutcheon (1995: 1) mentions about irony: there are 1445 entries listed under ‘irony’ in the MLA Bibliography. She (ibid.) justifies this by the various angles from which this topic has been approached: "linguistics and political science, sociology and history,
