letter to the last July signed by seven professors from the University of Auckland raising questions about the relationship between mātauranga Māori and science in the school curriculum provoked a firestorm. The letter referred to a technical report produced by the Ministry of Education describing a strand in an NCEA subject to be offered in Māori schools. The report referred to “discussion and analysis of the ways in which science has been used
