About this ebook
Natural Selection (Evolution): Fact or Fiction?
It all started with Darwin. Have you ever wondered what Darwins Origin of Species... really says? Can you come up with logical answers as to why evolution is not fact? Geologist George Schulte provides a careful analysis and logical critique of Darwins book, chapter by chapter. Verifiable facts are separated from fantasy and each issue addressed with surprising results.
Darwins Origin of Species...Science or Fantasy? will reveal:
The glaring lack of scientific evidence for Darwins theory
The case of the missing transitional forms
The crucial differences between natural selection and variation within species
The evidence that no one kind has ever changed into another kind
What the geologic record really says
The grave difficulties with Darwins theory in his own words
This book will answer questions and settle issues. It is an invaluable resource for students, parents, teachers, and anyone who is interested in separating fact from fictionthe proven from the imagined.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
F irst, I would like to thank the late Dr. Henry Morris for his tremendous contributions to the subject of Creation Science. He has done more than any other person in turning back the tidal wave of evolutionary thought. The book, The Genesis Flood , which he co-authored with Dr. John C. Whitcomb in 1961, provided a turning point in leading scientists back to a biblical basis for scientific endeavors. Acceptance of the biblical account of the Creation and the Flood was the position of much, if not most, of the scientific community, during the period when some of the greatest scientists of all time did their work. These were men such as Newton, Faraday, Pascal, Boyle and hundreds of others.
Dr. Morris was a prolific writer. I have purchased and read many of his books. These books have been a powerful guide to the Bible and to science. Some other books of his that should receive special mention are: The Genesis Record, Scientific Creationism, which he outlined and edited, Biblical Creationism and The Biblical Basis for Modern Science.
I would like to acknowledge also Dr. John C. Whitcomb, who in addition to co-authoring The Genesis Flood with Dr. Morris, has also authored many other books and articles and is now traveling the country speaking about Creation and other biblical subjects.
The following is a list of others who have produced books, articles and audio and video tapes and disks that have been very helpful to me: Dr. Duane Gish, Dr. John Morris, Dr. Gary Parker, Mr. Ken Ham, Mr. Tom Willis, president of the Creation Science Association for Mid-America—a local Kansas City organization, Dr. Steven A. Austin, Dr. Andrew Snelling, Dr. Russell Humphreys, Mr. John Woodmorappe, Dr. Jonathan Sarfati, Dr. Kent Hovind, Dr. Kurt Wise, Dr. Carl Wieland, Dr. Robert Gentry, Dr. Don DeYoung, Mr. Glenn Kailer, and Dr. Terry Mortenson. I would also like to acknowledge many contributors to the Institute for Creation Research monthly newsletter and to many contributors to Creation magazine.
I would also like to thank my wife, Mary, for her support and prayers as I worked on the book. Also, my thanks to her for reading the manuscript and assisting me in editing it. I would like also to thank my son, Stephen Schulte, and my daughter, Susan Schulte Ronnekamp, for reading the manuscript and making many helpful suggested changes. My daughter, Susan, who has a degree in journalism, has also provided me much help in getting the book copyrighted and published. I would also like to thank my daughter, Susan, and my son-in-law, Kurt Ronnekamp, for helping obtain and prepare material for the illustrations. I would also like to thank my daughter-in-law, Debbie Schulte, who prompted me to write the book. She home schooled her two daughters, and in order to broaden their education, she wanted them to understand what Darwin was saying in his book. I offered to prepare a critique of his book to help with that process. After completing the critique, I decided the results might have interest to a wider audience, and thus proceeded to pursue publishing the final work.

INTRODUCTION
C harles Darwin’s book, The Origin of Species …, has for over 150 years been considered the authoritative source for the theory of evolution. The purpose of this review of Mr. Darwin’s book is to show that the theory is not based upon scientific evidence, but upon the imagination and wishful thinking of Mr. Darwin. The review critiques the fourteen chapters of The Ori gin of Species …, chapter by chapter. An additional chapter has been included in the review providing some final thoughts.
One of the striking observations made in analyzing Mr. Darwin’s book, is the amount of space that he devoted in his book to what he described as difficulties with his theory. There are fourteen chapters in the book. Four of the chapters are devoted to discussing these difficulties. At various points in other chapters, Darwin devoted additional space to describing difficulties with the theory. At some points in the book, he referred to some of the difficulties as grave difficulties. It occurred to me that it is indeed ironic that those who support the teaching of evolution in public schools insist that not any alternate explanations for origins may be taught. They also insist that any evidence that questions the theory be not allowed in the classroom. In other words, Darwin’s arguments for the theory may be taught, but his own arguments against the theory must be censored.
Many people, incidentally, do not know that the full title of the book is, The Origin of Species By Means of Natural Selection or The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life. This appears to be a racist title. It is true that Darwin uses the term race to mean more than the human race, but there are some racial undertones in his book. They will be pointed out in this review.
Having been trained in geology, and having worked for part of my career as a geologist, I was, of course, continually exposed to the Darwinian theory of evolution. One of the interesting things about evolutionary theory is that it is assumed to be true by most geologists, and by most other scientists, for that matter. Yet the supposed mechanics for the theory, or the hard scientific evidence supporting the theory, are rarely, if ever, discussed. The theory seems to be, for the most part, a sacred cow.
The scientific community, especially the academic/scientific community, seems to possess an underlying evolutionary culture. The thinking goes like this: thousands of very intelligent scientists accept evolution to be true; therefore, it must be true. As a result, almost no one takes the time to really examine the theory critically. That was true, at least, until the creation scientists came along. In 1961, Dr. Henry M. Morris and Dr. John C. Whitcomb, a very highly qualified scientist and a very highly qualified theologian, published the book, The Genesis Flood. As a result of that book, many scientists, in many different fields, completely reexamined their thinking about evolutionary theory. Many of them rejected evolution and became creationists. Since then many other scientists have also become creationists as a result of the book.
Darwin was not the first to propose the theory. The general notion of evolution (natural, undirected creation as a result of chance and without God) seems to have been present in most pagan cultures and probably can be traced back to the earliest pagan cultures in Babylonia/Sumeria, about 2200 B.C. Evolution was also part of the thinking of some of the Greek philosophers at about the time of Jesus, A.D. 0000.
Charles Darwin’s grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, did considerable work and writing, proposing evolution. His work preceded Charles Darwin’s work by 65 years. There are many other men preceding Darwin who wrote extensively about the theory of natural selection (see article by Mr. Russell Grigg in Creation magazine, vol. 26, no. 2, March-May 2004, page 39). A man named Alfred Russell Wallace wrote a treatise having content very similar to Darwin’s Origin at about the same time that Darwin produced his book. Some question whether Darwin or Wallace should be credited with some of the ideas contained in the theory. A number of other men preceding Darwin also wrote about the theory of natural selection. Some of these men were William Wells, Patrick Matthew and Edward Blyth. James Hutton also preceded Darwin with ideas about natural selection. All of these writings and proposed ideas about origins paved the way for Charles Darwin to write his book, The Origin of Species….
I n the la t e 170 0s and ear ly 18 00s, the philosophy of uniformitarianism was also being advocated by men like James Hutton, Charles Lyell and others. Uniformitarianism is the assertion that the forces and processes that we see in existence today must have been in existence since the beginning. It postulates that all of the geologic features that we see in existence
