About this ebook

A sequel to his first book, Mr. Hughes brings the reader more adventures of his fun times growing up with Bruno and Bowser. For the author, his life was full of camping and getting to know the various critters in and around his Dixon Branch home. In this book, there is everything from groundhogs to bobcats to beavers and even a pesky lizard. There is also a ghost story that will bring chills to your bones. Above everything else, this book will bring a smile to your lips and maybe even a longing to be on an adventure of your own.

    Chapter 1

    Grantby Groundhog

A great thing about growin’ up on Dixon Branch Road was that there was plenty of water everywhere. We had water from our well pumped into our home, a small spring for drinkin’ and haulin’ water, a big pond behind our house, and little branches circlin’ all over the place. They were great for playin’ and swimmin’ and runnin’ in and through. With all this water, there, of course, were associated critters who liked the water almost as much as Bruno, Bowser, and I did.

I must have inherited that ability from my dad who had been a sharpshooter for the marines in the last world war.

At any rate while I was pluckin’ off skeeter legs in that branch, Bowser said to me that he thought he heard a high pitched whistlin’ sound. The sound had come from upstream. We decided to check out the origin of the whistlin’ sound. So, slowly and carefully,
