Delivered is a story about a woman who lived a double life. Heaven, known for her beauty, defined herself as man’s best friend as she secretly gave them their hearts desires. But there was more to Heaven than she knew. Not knowing her identity, she hid herself in her fleshly abilities but later found that her identity was already defined, she just had to see it.
CHAPTER ONE
I T WAS A cool spring day in April of 1970 when Brenda went into labor. Brenda, a school teacher and Herman, a Pastor, were elated at the upcoming birth of their second daughter. Heaven was a name given to her by her mom because she felt the gates of Heaven opened when she gave birth to such a beautiful and quiet baby. She only cried when she was wet and hungry. This made it easy for anyone to keep her and they would call her delightful
because she was such a delight to be around and her smile, intoxicating.
For the first two years of Heaven’s life she was pretty much kept away from the other toddlers for fear that if near them, she would pick up their bad habits. Funny, no one ever thought a two year old would develop bad habits, but nonetheless, she was isolated. The only interaction Heaven was allowed to have was with her sister, Sky. Otherwise, she was often found alone, in her room, surrounded by lots and lots of dolls.
Brenda would often check on Heaven and Sky when they were playing because many times they’d get into little fights. Cute at first, but as the girls grew older these cute fights became screaming matches. When Heaven turned 6 years old, people began to wonder about her. She was a beautiful little girl. Her eyes were solid black laced with long curly eye lashes.
Her lips were pursed perfectly as if she had an automatic pucker. Her hair, a thick mane that was wavy at the roots with little ringlets dropping down and her skin, well, it was dark but smooth as if it had been polished. To many, Heaven was an adopted child. How else would this beautiful little girl be born to parents who both had thick course hair, fair skin and brown eyes.
Parents who are of South African descent would never produce a child like this
, some would say. But as Heaven continued to grow, so did her curiosity as to who she really was. One summer day Heaven was playing in the den with her sister when Brenda and Herman walked in.
Where did I come from
she would frequently ask her parents and their answer was always, ‘from the love we share". When the questions first started Heaven’s parents thought it was cute but after a while realized her need to know, was real.
One day while Heaven was playing in her room with her sister Sky, there came a knock at her door. Running to see who it was from the living room window, Heaven saw it was Brenda’s brother Carl who had come over for dinner. Knowing her mom was busy in the kitchen, Heaven rushed to the door to let Uncle Carl in. Heaven adored her Uncle Carl for he was a tall dark handsome stout muscular man who at the time, had no special lady in his life. When Carl entered, Heaven jumped in his arms and kissed him on the cheek. Something that always brought a smile to his face. Hugging his niece and putting her down slowly, Uncle Carl called into the kitchen where he knew Brenda was. The smells from the kitchen of fresh garlic, stewed tomatoes, fried chicken and greens made his stomach growl and Heaven laugh. Brenda emerged with a smile on her face and open arms to receive her brother. Heaven looked on and ran to stand between them, looking up at Carl.
After their embrace, Brenda patted her brother on the shoulder and called Herman into the room, letting him know Carl had arrived. Herman came in with a huge smile on his face for he loved his brother-n-law. Man how you been?
asked Carl and Herman extending his hand to shake Carl’s replied, I’ve been great man, just great.
Daddy are you working today
, Heaven asked her father and while folding up his newspaper, he replied, baby my work is never done, I work for the Lord.
Looking into her father’s face Heaven touched his hand and said, Daddy you work too much, mommy gets lonely
. Staring at his beautiful daughter and stroking her hair, Herman thought a minute and patted Heaven’s head. He then went into the bedroom where Brenda was and asked, Am I neglecting my beautiful wife?
Brenda looked at Herman and replied, Your beautiful wife misses you when you’re gone but understands why
. With that response Herman kissed Brenda on the cheek and left for the church.
After a while Brenda was in the living room and heard the phone ring. Walking over to the phone and checking the time Brenda answered. Hello, oh just a minute
. Brenda called Heaven to the phone but before Heaven could ask who it was Brenda said, A boy but listen to me, you’re way too young to receive calls from boys young lady
. Mom I am 10 years old
replied Heaven as she took the phone. Standing by her side, Brenda thought she would monitor the conversation but was called away shortly after that by Herman.
It stood to reason why the boys were crazy about her. Heaven’s beauty was
