    Foreword

    Dr.S.Packiam, M.A., Ph.D.,

    (First Registrar of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University,

    Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu, India.)

    A ll saints and wise men of the world said God is one and He is common to all. As they did wonders for the general good of the society, man started worshiping them as incarnation of his deity and it became the cause for religion. As incarnated bodies varied, their preaching were also varied and hence the principles of religions too. Variations of religions were based on the culture of the people amongst whom the embodiment took place. In due course, principles of religion rooted deep in the thoughts of the people than the preaching of the saints on who’s preaching the religion was founded. It has become ‘my God; my religion’. Not only the preaching but also the truth has not been understood. At a point of time during human race acquired knowledge, science dominated over spirituality which was then mystery to almost all the people.

    Nowadays, spirituality questions science about presumptions on which science has fabricated theories regarding the ultimate Truth, because spirit behind mysterious concepts is being understood by comparing them with the young scientific findings.

    This book interestingly compares ‘pre-sub-atomic stage’, the concept of ‘Wave particle Duality’, String Theory’ and ‘Particle Physics’ with the concepts explained in Indian Philosophical literature about ultimate Truth. Another Indian Philosophical concept is ‘re-birth to experience previous karma-effects’ (consequence of previous deeds in previous body). The author of this book says that there is a physical system required to implement the rules of ‘karma system and explains it in the light of recent scientific findings regarding genes.

    The philosophy of ‘materialization of consciousness’ this book speaks about, pin points what has got the name ‘god’ and justifies theism and atheism simultaneously. I have felt within that this book, What is ‘not-god’?, would be the one that could propagate seeds of positive social changes. I wish along with the author that sense this book conveys should reach a good majority of youngsters.

    Philosophical Elements in this book

    A critical analysis

    by

    Dr.M. Balasubramanian, MA, Ph.D.,

    Former Principal&Professor of History (Rtd.)

    I n my considered opinion of professional perspective, this book, ‘What is not-god?’, is a class by itself in the sense that it makes an important and phenomenal contribution to the existing fund of knowledge of spiritual philosophy of the world. It is not a tall claim. It could be well substantiated. It will be as follows:

    The author has given a dependable scientific interpretation to the existing mystery of having the duality of human mind and body in a complex system of oneness of human life of known and unknown dimensions. Human body, on one hand, is physical as a phenomenon in substantiation in terms of glandular secretions conditioning process of thinking. On the other hand, the author explains how thinking in terms of one’s own ego (Self) i.e. consciousness of one’s own existence as I am in function, is productive of feeling which is at once metaphysical as of being non-phenomenon. Thus consciousness is a matter of physical entity for him. This is a new way of thinking on the mystery of glandular control of human thinking.

    Another conditionality of human behavior, according to the author, is traceable to the activation of genes and execution of genetic codes in their generative fixation with the layout of the DNA. And DNA, it amounts therefore, is wholly deterministic in conditioning the patterns of human behavior. Such behavior is selectively in response to the environmental influences. This genetic code as in communicativeness with DNA is to gain its chronological perspective when the procreation takes place as in transmission into next generation (birth). The present author’s explanation of birth in its geneses is an original contribution to the philosophy of supply chain of births (transmigration of genetic information). Thus, the physical aspects of human thinking are objective (or factual). When this phenomenon gets into the ongoing currents of Time and Space, the relevant human thinking takes upon itself the transformative forces leading to the rise of feelings overlapping pure consciousness. Feeling is to appear as of non-phenomena but, in reality, it is a metaphysical reality as traceable to substantive human thinking based on the genetic codification of DNA’s functionalities. Here the author explains how mind is to be articulated into the entry channels of willful thinking as of Suyam in terms of meditative introspection otherwise known as dhyanam. Finally this kind of meditative manipulation of the Self (Suyam) is recommended to find out by yourself the source of Bliss within you. You may call this as Bliss which may be experienced as the final destination of the meaningfulness of human life on this earth. It is conditioned by the enveloping Universe, as God or just an Omnipotent Power evolving the balance of all forces of Nature in all apple pie orderliness of mysterious engineering processes.

    The title of the book itself is thought-provoking in the sense that a new break-through in the philosophical thinking on spirituality is made available here in this book by means of getting into scientific frontiers of empirical analysis of the contents of philosophy.

    Is it exhaustively philosophical that this book carries the seeds of further thinking on how to spiritualize the metaphysical aspect of philosophy? What is meant by philosophy? The Chambers Dictionary defines philosophy as follows: ‘the search for truth and knowledge concerning the universe, human existence, perception and behaviors pursued by means of reflection, reasoning and arguments. By etymology, philosophy is of two words namely philo- loving + Sophia–wisdom. The above definition makes out primarily seeking truth on universe and human existence by means of reflection. The direction this book shows as how to develop correct perspectives by which Universe and human existence will be held in scientific analysis, in direct reference to thinking and acting. Thinking is attributable to the mind-set as conditioned by glandular secretions. Acting is the logical corollary of thinking that is coined in the exclusiveness of genetic codes in activation. The feeling in thinking and the Self in acting are brought into the singularity of human existence in terms of ever widening thought and action. There is an under- current of spirituality (consciousness) in all these forces of Nature i.e. within man. The author of this book derives his conclusion out of the duality of thinking (Glandular-genetic) and manifestly integrated consciousness (Suyam).

    Definitely the author’s contribution to the philosophical thinking in terms of spirituality is too original, phenomenal and path finding.

    Preface

    I had returned home after having finished my first speech of that kind in a students’ forum of VOC College, Tuticorin, my home town in Tamilnadu, India, organized by the students who were undergoing 2 nd year M.S. (IT and e.com) post graduate course in the year 2003. The topic given was How to improve the power of concentration?

    It took me half an hour of pondering over to realize that I had not performed my duty on that day in a manner it ought to have been. I felt guilty that I had missed a chance of transferring some of my ideas on the subject matter to those students, to make my words on that day worth-thinking. This guilty feeling on one hand and on the other, a search for answer for the question ‘why these unfortunate incidents happened to me?’ arisen due to a significant down fall in my life, made me to read and think and opened me new avenues through which I reached certain facts. I ventured to record those facts in this small book titled WHAT IS NOT-GOD? a book that systematize spirituality, obeying the inner voice within mySelf.

    Spiritually enlightened people have been praised that they have transcended religions. It means that spirituality is independent of all religions. Although every religion has spirituality as its core, conflicts are very common amongst people following different religions. However, persons leading a spiritual life never have any conflict amongst them and with any other people as well.

    There is, therefore, logic in concluding-

    - that religion divides people whereas spirituality unites them and

    - that religion is not a pre-requisite for an individual to lead a spiritual life,

    reserving very particularly that spirituality means being aware of the all-powerful thing within; a thing which is not recognizable either as a matter, an energy or anything else within the purview of physical science.

    In the timeline of human history, it appears that there has been a major division in the society namely intellectuals who had known the above concept and common people who had not. Religion is a social institution whereas spirituality is a metaphysical concept. Unfortunately both rarely synchronize and it is, in my view is quite natural. However, as spirit (so called god) is not approved yet by science a good portion of the society believe religion along with its mythology, stories and miracles as they are, but fail to realize the spirit within. Though this state of the society is naturally inevitable, wise people all through the ages have struggled to make people feel the spirit within. By explaining why this ever sensuous division exists and making people aware of the cause for any religion, systematization of spirituality is what this book is about.

    What is believed as god by the most of the believers on one hand and criticized by atheists on the other, is not the so called god. I believe that this fact is known to the holy and reverent religious heads as well as the learned leaders of atheistic institutions. They keep mum about this for reason known to them. It amounts to me that they have been jerking or ignoring their social responsibility to tell the truth to the general public. They may claim that the peoples’ ability to understand the philosophy of God is not up to the required level. But it does not suit the intellectual level of the present society. Moreover, it is not philosophy of god; it is philosophy of ultimate truth, the cause for the universe and lives on it. So, in my trial to systematize the concept of spirituality, I venture to diffuse my understanding about what is not god. I hope it would be good for the society.

    I know that I try to break the mountainous belief. I have the ‘chisel’, the chisel of doubt about god, of educated youths of present age. They do not find a rationale between the parental teaching and the scientific knowledge. I pin point this rationale with the help of the latest inventions and theories of science.

    I hope this book would not be branded as anti-god. Because I am sure that I have taken meticulous efforts to write down exactly what was spontaneously arisen in me even during a mid night awake that what are all not to be termed as god. I understand the temporary nature of ‘mind’, and how the Universe, body, mind, ego and Self were a combination of subjectivity and objectivity with underlying consciousness. I was guided internally to understand that the trinity of Consciousness-Energy-Matter in the primordial sub-atomic stage, that what is the process of the Self attaining the state of ‘Pure Self’ and that what are all not to be called as ‘god’.

    Indian classical philosophers have originated supreme ideas on these mystic concepts of god, mind and consciousness in which ‘truth within’ and ‘consciousness is the only reality’ are the key words. They advanced the theory of Karma for justifying the joy and grief of the lives on earth. Their ideas were represented by scriptures and literatures. But these theories have no scientific support to eliminate the doubts of the younger generations. I have been enabled to theorize, with scientific support, a system whereby-

    • the reason for ones happiness and sorrows, is justified;

    • what is the cause for the primordial oneness having been evolved into multiplicity;

    • how the multiple entities crunch into oneness again;

    • what is the cause for the crunch and

    • what does a crunch means.

    I bow my head to those Great people who have written in recent years more convincingly about these mystic concepts than I have done. However, I hope that there is some specialty, some difference, in the manner the light shed on these mystic concepts, on the perspective I ask you to look into the recent scientific findings in certain field of science, which had reflected into my perception. The targeted people whom I wanted to diffuse my understanding of these concepts could also look at the actual dimensions comfortably. So to say, I have suggested a theory of an operative system which take a position between mysticism and physicalism, that is, in my opinion, realism.

    When I approached Dr.M. Balasubramanian, (a 76 year old eminent educationalist, who calls himSelf a student, and whose hobby is helping others by feeding knowledge, and whom I was lucky enough to know him as a professor admired by most of my college mates and had him as my guide later) for his guidance and a write up as a foreword to this book, he pointed out that I should have quoted references wherever required. When I started searching for the references, I got quotes and references under incredible circumstances in minimum possible time, which I understand as the evidence of my having been driven by egoless Self and the publishing of this book is the will of Pure Self.

    In my early days I had bought books due to curiosity and it was not sure I had read them all. What I want to emphasis is that the early collection of books was for a definite purpose which I did not know. The abstruse mechanism behind this would be realized by the readers of this book.

    I submit my sincere thanks to Prof. Dr. M. Balasubramanian, M.A.Ph.D, who has offered criticism on the philosophical element in this book, Dr. S. Packiam, M.A.,Ph.D., for having written the foreword and Mr. T. Thamaraipandy, the former Secretary of Tuticorin Port Trust, Tuticorin, under whose control I worked for 5 years, whose writing exemplariness I happened to observe for about 26 years and who taught me to write in such a way that none should understand any other sense than what I intend to convey through my writing. I submit my sincere thanks to him for having indirectly helped me fulfill the requirement felt to write this book in English.

    I am bold enough to submit that there is only one source for all the books written by people all over the world. It is only Ego filled Self declares that it is me, he, that kind and this way. The criticism and explanations following after the publications are also from the same source. The brain, hands and tongues only are from Ego filled selves. Therefore, all the ‘I’s found above and almost all the ‘I’s found in this book do not represent my name and body.

    Dedication

    I dedicate this book to the students who were undergoing 2 nd year M.S. (IT and e.com) post graduate course in the year 2003 in VOC College, Tuticorin, Tamilnadu, India where I also got my graduation in 1971 and to whatever parameters that contributed to my thinking, having been placed in a special plane.

    Back-ground note

    I n India, religious ethics and epics with mythological stories have come into existence from ancient times and have been based on philosophical ideas about reality. It is said that the basic philosophies have originally come from the Vedas which are considered to be the first philosophic literature of India. It is true that the scripts were in a language foreign to India. However, simply because the Vedic scripts are in a foreign language, it could not be construed that the philosophies about the reality contained in Vedas are not originated from Indian thought prior to Vedas. Neither could it be said that there were no philosophical ideas at all prior to Vedas, simply because there are no scripts available. What was called by Hindus valley people as Sivam and symbolized as Linga was called as Bhramam in Vedas. Rig Veda mention about Siva. Both the words Sivam and Bbramam were used to mean the reality, the thing of which, according to them, the universe and the lives on it are made up of.

    Therefore, it can be said that philosophies about the ultimate truth have been advocated by Dhravidian Siddhars followed by Vedas, Upanishads and Baghavath Geetha, the gist of Vedas, included in the great epic Mahabharath. Simultaneously, philosophies which did not accept the authority of the Vedas for the evolution of the philosophic concepts about the ultimate truth, emerged. They were Jainism Bhuddism and Charvakam. Agamaas namely Niyaya, Vaiseshikam, Sankium, Yogam, Meemamsam and Vedhantham which accepted the authority of vedas also emerged.

    All these philosophies have been the results of the query as to what is the cause of the universe-in-action and lives on it in evolving. They can be found divided into three major divisions based on the number of the thing truthfully in existence causing the dynamic universe. The divisions can be shown as follows:

    1. There are two things namely Bhrammam and Jeevan living in the Universe. Jeevan on attaining perfection unites with the Bhrammam. Persons who propagated this philosophy are called Dualists in general and the philosophy is known as Dhvaidham.

    2. There is only one things and that is the material Universe which is immortal. Lives on it come into existence naturally and die naturally. The advocates of this philosophy are called Materialists in general.

    3. There is only one thing and that is Bhrammam which manifests itSelf as Universe. This philosophy is called Adhvaidham and the advocates are called Vedanthists in general.

    Philosophies come under the division 1 and 3 above are Asthik and under the division 2 above are Nasthik.

    When philosophies talk about reality, the ethics and epics aimed at the common man’s intellectual enlistment to understand the philosophy. Epics also set metaphorically an ultimate goal to be achieved by every man namely, union or communion with God. Here only in this point of history of intellectual progress where the great misunderstanding committed. The metaphor was to mean the Big Crunch; a process whereby the objective Universe with lives on it shrink and merge back into that subjective point wherefrom it expanded into being. But, the misunderstanding gave life to god, the object of the metaphor. Initial enquiry was about what was the cause of the uncontrollable miseries of human being. It lead to the subsidiary question that what was the cause for the universe. Based on these two questions only the philosophies emerged. But, how god came in between and what was the reason? To answer these questions one has to go into the political and social environment and circumstances at that age. I think that it would not be necessary for the purpose of this book. We can just conclude that the concept of god was created as an object of the metaphor to explain the natural phenomena of expansion and crunch of the universe.

    Various methods of preaching were adapted to suit individual’s ability to understand. They did not explain in detail the philosophy behind every story or preaching. Common man of
