Sripati (Vedantam Sripatisarma) is a writer in Telugu, Hindi, and English. He has penned several short stories, novels, and plays. He is a columnist in Telugu. Indian heritage is known as ‘Nitya Itihasa’ suggesting that unlike the written and recorded history of several civilizations, India’s history as related to its heritage drawn from Vedas, Puranas, epics and subsequent texts is something which cannot be pinned down to a given time period. Roughly, one can quote the ‘recent’ Mahabharata war as a point in India’s distant history and examine it with the remnants of the city of Dwaraka unearthed from the western coast.
Having said this, we are actually looking at a glorious past ranging beyond almost 5000 years and if the scriptures are to be examined, the story goes beyond lakhs of human years.
Some time ago, I was approached by a local Telugu daily for conducting a quiz. The title was ‘Puranam Quiz’. Ever since, there was a great demand for having them in the form of a compilation. The purpose was basically to inculcate an interest in the subject and a certain inquisition about the backgrounds behind some phenomena and also to review the characters and events inside the glorious epitaphs which significantly describe the morals of the contemporary society.
The quiz went on for almost four years and the volume is therefore not only immense but quite intense as well. This is
