Tapestry from a Simple Mind

About this ebook
This book is a collection of fictional events about everyday people. People you meet at a store, such as a soldier who sits waiting for his bus, and a mothers memory of her first born child. You will meet a man who is lost within himself, and find a son who learns to forgive. Through the author's poetry and fiction, these characters become everyday people expressed in a simple, yet powerful language.
Nancy R. Garcia
My name is Nancy R. Garcia I was born in Reedley California. I come from a large Mexican-American Family, four brothers and three sisters. We moved to Fresno in the early sixties, where I started scribbling on my garage walls, as I did laundry with our old ringer type Maytag washing machine. I have always prayed and dreamed of being a published author. I have been working since age five with my parents and siblings; whether it was, picking boysenberries’, grapes, and cotton or working 10 hours on a tomato harvester machine. I am proud to be a child of farm working parents; it’s their hard work that has shaped all of us into what we are today. I love Fresno and I will never leave. Fresno is home.

Night Talks
I come in from the
Darkness of dew
With the gleam of the moons’
Shadow on me.
I go to your room
The warmth of your sighs
Embrace me.
Your blankets sleep nowhere near you.
You lay facing heaven mimicking
dreams of angels.
Your stir in your crib mumbling Mama,
Searching with arms stretched, cheeks rose
And breathe of milky sleep.
We hold each other
As if the last grains of sand
Slip through the hour glass.
Sleep now my Natalie.
You smile eyes closed
I walk away feeling our
Love in my arms.
The Envelope
Small and thin a girl of six
Tight dark curls against fair cheeks.
I dress for school.
Our new home is by the sea,
But rich we are not,
We are looking for work.
I shake sand from my shoes
Folding my sock, where it is torn.
I grab my brown sweater to leave.
Mama comes to me with soft brown eyes
She hands me an envelope
Give to your teacher.
I walk following the other children, with
