Secret of the Skulls - Dewey Starbuck

    Chapter One,

    Four Dolphins

Mankind survives the Apocalyptic Holocaust of December 31st, 2012. The three huge ships caring the Government officials and heads of state had moored in the shallow waters of the bay. Along with a few thousand citizens, they had survived the end of the world, December 31st, 2012 and had set ashore on a desolate beach. A pier had been built making it easy for everyone to come and go to the ships as they pleased.

Already the new inhabitants had begun to scourge the face of Mother Earth with malice and without for thought. Cutting down the huge redwood trees would be a sin to some, but to others in the name of prosperity, the sin was committed.

The Heads of States would be living in huge palaces that had been constructed from materials they had stored on their ships. Material for smaller housing was being unloaded now for the construction of their new city.

Multi complex dwellings were planed for most of the citizens, while more lavish homes were built for the rich and well to do. But at least they were clever enough to have brought solar panels for an electrical plant, which was almost finished.

Tomorrow evening there would be a ceremony as the power would be turned on, lighting the entire city. Everyone was anxious for the water and sewer to be functional, and the electricity would make this happen.

The city was planned to house the Asian citizens in one section, while the Russians and Americans would have their own sections. They thought that keeping same cultures together would make everyone happy.

Already they had begun to clear enough land for them to begin to grow their own food. There are enough supplies on the ships to last for about one year, but they plan to be self sufficient within the first six months.

Every one is busy going back and forth from the ship and back to shore. Construction equipment and materials are being unloaded from the ships hull. With so many workers the task moves along very quickly.

In just the first three months of their arrival in their new country, and new land, they have destroyed two square miles of precious forest for their own senseless use.

Growth and prosperity is their logic and reasoning. While others would call it killing centuries old living trees and destroying virgin forests.

For hundreds of years their eyes have been blind to the truth as their ears have been deaf to the truth. So their mouths have been closed to telling the truth. The word slave comes to mind again.

    Meanwhile… .

The citizens of Four Dolphins live in a free society with plenty of time to do as they please. Rick and his daughter Sara are sitting on their surf boards waiting for the right wave to carry them back to shore. Other people are surfing along side them and find choice waves to ride on. It has been almost six months since they set foot on their new found homeland and everyone has adapted quite well.

Horseback ridding and archery are two of the more popular classes. Sharing the knowledge one has about something with someone else can be very rewarding, and classes are a good way to share with many people all at the same time.

Sara has been making small talk with her father to prepare him for what is on her mind. A trick she learned from her father, never tell anyone what is one your mind until they are ready to hear you, only then they will listen to reason.

He is ready to listen now, so she asks, Mura tells me she is preparing us all now for things that will happen in the future. Is she talking about the other people?

Mura has told them all about the government officials and the thousands of people they have with them that have also survived the holocaust. And that not all of the other people living under their domain are bad people, mostly their leaders who have no sense of right from wrong and their small army to protect them.

Yes sweet heart, replies Rick. But that won’t happen for a long time. So for now, we should find a perfect wave to ride back to shore on. Ready?

They turn to look as a huge wave is approaching from behind them. They begin to paddle as fast as they can to catch up to the wave and begin their ride. Sara squeals with excitement as she stands on her board and has the ride of her young short life. Her father is right beside and begins to yell as he too, is having an almost perfect ride on a most excellent wave.

The on lookers at shore cheer them on as they ride inside the curl of the rather big wave. Gliding along underneath the top of the wave Rick instructs her as to how to finish the ride. They wash up on shore filled with excitement.

You must feel pretty good about yourself right now little lady, Nancy tells her daughter smiling.

You have no idea how great that felt mommy, she replies to her mother.

And you looked like you were having the time of your life there too my cosmic cowboy hero, she tells Rick.

To be there when my daughter cops her first tube is probably one of the high lights of my life, except when she was conceived. He says to Nancy smiling a huge smile. This little mermaid will out surf the best of us some day.

He helps Nancy up from the blanket she has been sitting on watching them surf. She is over eight months pregnant and is due any day. She is slow to stand up, but once up she can waddle just fine.

She had been thinking of the time on the beach in Costa Rica with Rick when the unborn infant was conceived almost nine months ago. The beach here reminded her of the beach in Costa Rica, and of their honeymoon. Their bond has been growing every since and sitting on the beach listening to the mesmerizing waves is good way to travel back in time.

They walk back toward their village and begin to make plans for Sara’s up coming sixth birthday, June 26th, only a few days away. They are sure Bob will have plenty of BBQ, and their Japanese cousins will be serving their favorite dishes also. Every one will have a large selection of refreshments to choose from.

Mura has been away visiting her home planet, Sirius, and Sara hopes she will return in time for her birthday. Sara misses her master, and can’t wait to see her again.

Rick, Nancy, and Sara all arrive back at their house only to find Mike and Sonia waiting for them. Sonia wants to speak with Nancy alone if possible. There is something pressing on her mind and she needs to talk to Nancy.

She tells Nancy she has not had a menstrual period in six weeks and she is frightened. Nancy is like a mother or big sister to her.

There is nothing to be frightened of my dear, Nancy tells her smiling. You are probably just pregnant, that’s all. You should be happy. But to be sure, we should visit Eleu, the Siriuan midwife.

The two of them excuse themselves and go over to Elue’s home. After finishing her exam, she smiles and tells them that their suspicions are correct. Sonia is about eight weeks pregnant. Eleu estimates she will give birth some time in January.

Sonia’s fears quickly subside as a feeling of joy consumes her. She is already radiating the glow of an expecting mother and sees the world as a mother would. To serve and protect all Gods children as a woman is now her new motto.

Back at Nancy’s home they are challenged to a game of Pinochle by the men. The men are hoping to find out why all of the secrecy, and playing cards might be a way to loosen the tongues of the women. Their strategy works.

But the women have their own strategy. Half way through the card game, Nancy, in a very nonchalant manner, tells Rick of the expecting child Sonia has in her stomach. Mike is stunned, and looks over at Sonia, smiling a huge smile. She smiles back and they join hands in a gesture of togetherness.

That’s my boy, Rick tells him smiling. Doing your part to help re-populate the new world. Let’s see here, we have Dolphina, the first. Next is Nancy who should give birth very soon, I hope. And Sonia will give birth to the third newest citizen of Four Dolphins. May I congratulate you both and wish you the best of luck.

They return to the card game as if nothing had happened. Only Mikes mind is filled with wonderment and anticipation of his new child. He wishes for a son, but would be very content with a daughter.

Yoshi and his family stop by to congratulate Mike and Sonia on their expecting gift from Heaven. News travels fast in such a small community. With only 91 residents when they first arrived, now up to 92, and soon to be 93, their new child will make 94 and counting. The population of Four Dolphins, Oceania has started to grow.

Their Japanese cousins soon excuse themselves so the others can continue with their card game. But soon others are arriving to comfort them, especially Sonia. She is already filled with so much joy and excitement she has a slight glow around her entire body, her aura can be seen by some.

That evening at home Sonia cries as she is feeling so much love and kindness from everyone in the entire village that she can no longer hold it in, her emotions overflow. She sees how all the women of their village will be as a mother to her child and her, a mother to all of the children of their community. Brothers and sisters would best describe the feeling she is having.

She smiles and Mike holds her in his arms to comfort and reassure her that the world is still a beautiful place. And the house and village they live in is also a very beautiful place to raise a child. Look at all of the other children that are already growing up here, and how beautiful they are he tells her. He gently wipes the tears from her eyes

The next morning Alfrado is having his morning coffee and toast when there is a knock at the door. Mura’s teenage daughter Sharine enters and warmly greets him. She is a student of his in the studies of the Mayan Calendar. She has studied the calendar for many years before ever meeting Alfrado and is glad to be his pupil. His daughter, Varie, Sonia’s younger sister offers her some refreshments. Sharine thanks her.

Although the end of the calendar has already came and went, they are working on a new one. The end of a 26,000 year cycle had just ended and they are working on another 5,200 year cycle.

The old Mayan calendar beliefs were that man has been on earth for five, 5,200 year cycles and 2012 was the end of them all. But as a Mayan Chieftain and a citizen of Four Dolphins, he thinks that they should just start over with the first long count calendar and go back to the beginning, 26,000 years ago by the calendar.

Sharine loves to hear his stories he is always telling her. They make her laugh and in some way seem informative. He is showing her the 5,200 year long count calendar as he has prepared it from day one, January 1st, 2013.

You know a lot about the calendar, she tells him.

I have been studying it since I was a child, he replies. My father studied it and so did his father. It is a tradition in my family. My son Lorenzo knows about it too. I taught him.

How long have you known about the skulls? She asks.

I first learned of them when I was a young teenager, he begins. My father told me of the first people who were on earth and how they were given the skulls by people from another planet. They lived on an Island many thousands of years ago. Their island sank and the skulls were moved all over the earth to keep them safe. Two were sent to the Americas and we were able found them both. Do you know where the rest are by chance?

Yes and no, she replies. You should talk to my mother about that. She knows more than I do about where they are located.

A moment of silence before Alfrado begins.

They say you are a master of the skulls and know their secrets, Alfrado tells her. And I believe you are and can teach me many things.

The first thing you should learn, she tells him, is that there are many uses of the skulls. You are learning of the clairvoyant use of them and how to travel in time. There is still much more you must learn before you can call yourself a master. And I will be more than happy to teach you every thing you must learn in due time.

With their studies of the calendar finished for the day, they turn to the skulls. Alfrado brings the skull from where he keeps it hidden and hands it to Sharine. She looks at him smiling and jesters for him to be seated on the floor. She sits herself in front of him and gives him back the skull.

She tells him to think back to the first time he was on earth as a man. After clearing his mind of all other thoughts, he closes his eyes. A flash of bright light and instantly he is transported back in time to Atlantis.

He watches himself as if he were standing right next to himself. He is tending his live stock with two other people, his daughters. They are all laughing as if they had not a single care in the world. Next he sees himself at a great gathering of people. He sees the thirteen skulls displayed on an altar behind the man speaking. Alien people had just given them the skulls.

Next he sees the skulls in a temple and the people standing behind them. A beam of light flashes from the skull in the center upwards towards the sky. Next they are all gathered together in a great hall.

He does not hear what the man is saying, but understands that he is telling them of impending doom. He sees many people boarding the huge ships. Then he sees the man holding the thirteenth skull all alone and sinking onto the sea with the rest of Atlantis. A flash of light and he opens his eyes to find Sharine sitting in front of him smiling.

Were you able to satisfy your curiosity? She asks him smiling.

Satisfy? He replies. I’m blown away. I saw all the skulls in one place at one time. I even saw people from your planet with people from my planet together with the skulls. Then I finally saw Atlantis sinking into the ocean. How long were my eyes closed?

Quite a few minutes, she replies.

It only seemed like just a few seconds had passed by for me to see everything, he tells her.

Yes. She tells him. When you are inside the skulls, time almost comes to a stop. When you are out of your body, you are not subject to time in the present world.

It’s beginning to make more sense to me all the time, he tells her smiling.

I must return home now, she tells him. But I will see you again soon. And thank you for another enjoyable morning once again.

She hurries off leaving Alfrado in a state of confusion. He tries to remember the small details of his vision. The man standing in front of the skulls, does he know the man? Is the man with them today? More questions than answers.

Mike and Sonia are bringing her father some
