undergraduate work robbing banks, with a degree for ten years, three of which were
served on the ROCK! Then back home, took over the Winter Hill Gang. An old buddy
from school, who became an FBI Agent, told him the FBI was hiring TEIs. So they cut
a deal that turned devastating for both! For starters, they needed his help to break the
North Boston LCN Italian Mob. Before the Appalachian Meet, the Bureau said - No
National Crime Syndicate, next day - JEH started the Top Hoodlum Program in all FBI
Offices in USA. They had to take care not to knock off a Race Track, when the boss was in attendance, dont embarrass the Bureau.
While they did not have a parade for BLACKIE, all soon learned he was back in town !
He worked overtime to become multi-millionaire Boston Drug Kingpin, whacking those
who dared to get in his way. If you want whack job details, check out the press
accounts under homicide. CAUTION - he is alleged to have whacked 19 PLUS - two
were females he strangled to death! Not the guy you want your daughter to date. Some of the kills were aided by the law closing their eyes. A major casualty was the Boston Southie kids and young adults. They ODd, became vegetables, committed suicide, due to the quantities ingested of Meth, Coke, etc., as the dealers said -
it was their choice! Unfortunately this scenario goes hand and hand with hard - tough law enforcement, and some agency in-fighting, in the race to scrape up the scum from the Southie streets, and its companion - corruption!
Meanwhile, the press was on it regarding the homicides, real bodies and real coroner
reports. BUT, no specific in depth reporting on the drug scourge. Without it, we focus on homicides, easier to cover with those grotesque images as they are ripped from the earth that they hugged for years. Then the mob burial detail told the cops where they
were as a trade for immunity! Not to say that some in-depth work on the drug scourge
is easy, BUT the more we do not dig into it, the more we guarantee it will continue! Yes,
it is the USA drug appetite that fuels the Mexican production and distribution. Mexico
has had thousands of street executions in last 15 years; all USA families have, or know those who have young loved ones, who got hooked and we attended their funerals! The Congress and the Administration needs to get off their collective asses and address the problem. The drug war losses cap the numbers we lost since the BIG WAR plus! For the DC crowd, they would rather focus on cocktail parties funded by the numerous lobbyists that choke the traffic on K St, NW, employ aides that write 1,000 page bills that no one reads before voting, none of them took the time from there career to serve the country in the military (just like their elected pols they work for), as they beef up the resume so we soon see them on the Sunday Morning Talkies. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? MARK - THERE ,I SAID IT!
The nemesis, is TOMMY TIERNAN, from Newark, NJ, from a blue collar upbringing,

FOREWORD
Just a little background on the principals in this reality based fiction, which is inspired by true events! The County Cavan twist is in recognition of William James from County Cavan, and his contribution to literature—‘stream of consciousness’! You will see, as the story unfolds, Tommy Tiernan, the nemesis, and Blackie Butler, the protagonist, play out the stream, in their own unique fashion, as applied by their Cavan cousin.
As the first chapter launches, you will become acquainted with Tommy Tiernan. He hails from Irish—German stock. His journey starts in Newark, N.J., and moves to various international locations in Europe and the Far East. He is the oldest of five boys. Dad and Mom provided the inspiration for all to excel, no matter what the obstacles and challenges! All family members made contributions as expected. These were made with a high level of sacrifice. While Dad and Mom, never had the chance to graduate from college, all five of Tommy’s Fire Team are college graduates, and beyond—lawyer, couple Masters, etc.
Tommy’s Fire Team, lived in the Ironbound section—
Down-neck—, on the other side of the tracks! For those who know the area, it was in the shadow of Ruppert Stadium and the Ballentine Brewery. Time frame—Tommy arrived just prior to the big war
! Our number was increased by a WWII uncle, who lived with us and went to Seton Hall on GI Bill, and Grandma till she passed, and countless beagles!
Career started as a paper boy. Carried the Star Ledger and the Evening News! After first year saved enough for a newer bike. The guy down the street with mob connections, truck driver, next to the corner tavern, seemed like every corner had them for the thirsty populace! Said the brand new Schwinn—knee action fell off a truck! Had the coolest bike in the hood. Younger Fire Team was envious, hard work
.
Did the altar boy tour at local St. Ann’s Church. Same as Machine Gun Kelly did on the ROCK, being Irish he knew where the wine was located. As oldest in the gang, urged Mom and Dad to be romantic so we could get more batting practice fielders. Results—Tommy makes All-City and County Baseball Teams, and Seton Hall offers him a D-1 student-athlete scholarship. He and the Fire Team celebrated at the iconic Tom Farley’s bar, next to the Ballantine Brewery!
The Brooklyn Dodgers, Tommy’s team forever, in a letter from Al Campanis invited him to Ebbets Field for a tryout with the Brooklyn Dodger Rookies. He was on the bench with the World Champions—1955—Preacher, Campy, Hodges (WW II—Okinawa—Marine), Robinson, PeeWee, Cox, Furillo, Snider, and Cimoli. Yes, Dad the Fire Captain by now, said good example for your Fire Team. Well, there is no doubt in Tommy’s mind, the long BP made a difference. And, one of the team said, had he batted Lefty, he could have made the show! One day batting Lefty, he hit the ball on the Ruppert roof—about 450 plus! Back story—Tommy’s favorite nun insisted, no writing Lefty, so when you did you got the three sided ruler treatment! What did it do to Tommy’s motor centers, a plus for the upcoming tests at Marine Corps and FBI? The hike from the house to the ball yard took about 40 minutes. It was around some unusual shaped blocks, under Rt 1 near the Pulaski Skyway, the rest of the route was Wilson Ave, around the Stadium to Ironbound Field. As we rounded the corner, we could hear the old stadium bricks groan, here they come again
! The ball field, loaded with rocks and broken glass was a sight, but no one else there, so free for the Fire Team plus one.
Just beyond the right field area was a local dump. We did not know it at the time, but in future years all these areas were declared Super Toxic Dumps! Guess Tommy will make it, he later survived the polluted SF Bay, Alcatraz and Gate swims, with WW II munitions sunk all around the ROCK. Incentive for Fire Team, after BP was rat hunting. The dump was a great spot for hunting rats with our Red Ryder bb guns, after batting practice, five shots with the youngest first!
A special event would occur on Friday night. Tommy would finish his papers, go by Vince’s pizza place, get the biggest pizza, loaded with cheese, and pedal home, no delivery trucks, plus $. Down to the basement, where we had the Gillette fights on TV. One of the team, in fact it may have been the one who later became a lawyer, was seen skipping his crust so he could get more pizza. HALT—Violation of fair pizza eating! For remainder of month he got the clean up duty, and the
b/w TV.
As a Seton Hall Alum, with 45 years in law enforcement, Tommy wants to put in a plug for another Hall guy with the NY State Prison Board. Denis Kozlowski, never did harm to anyone, with his recent work with Veterans, time to release him! Send him to NJ Corrections Dept., to consult/manage, per NY Times Dec-2012.
Probably fortified with the pizza, two months before Ebbets and the Hall, Tommy shattered two long standing Newark City swimming records, in the Fly and the Medley. At the Hall, Tommy was the Captain and MVP on the swim team, doing Fly and Free! Hall of Fame at Hall?—applied—Frosh, b4th-.405,-18rbi,Bpen, Capt/MVP, Silence
! Down the road, when assigned to the left coast, he took on the Gate and Alcatraz. Tommy is "ONLY FBI AGENT EVER" to swim Alcatraz to SF—twice, and Golden Gate North & South (passing kidney stones)—all swims, no wet suit (did not own one), water temp and age 55, swirling currents, SHARKS?—South End Rowing Club!
Yes, FOUR of the Team of Brothers, were Marine Corps Officers during the Vietnam era, serving in the Far East. Two were 0302, Infantry and Recon, one Amtraks,
