I just learned so much about where I came from and who Ive become. For example, did you know that my parents took turns sitting on my egg until I was hatched? When I popped out I was very little and very fuzzy. Ive grown so quickly I hardly recognize myself any more!

When I was just 4 days old I followed my mommy into the pond and lo and behold I could swim better than I could walk. What a surprise!

Finding food is an important job for my mom. Dads work is to guard us and keep us both safe. My parents have taught me many important lessons about survival and manners.

About the author: Sol Goldstein, a retired social worker, has been telling tales for many years before penning his first book about the birth of a White-naped Crane, A Baby Crane’s Tale. Known to many children as “Uncle Sol”, he tells stories at numerous day care centers across New York City and Westchester. He has served as a docent at the Bronx Zoo for over 13 years. He derives his inspiration from the children, the environment, and the Bronx Zoo where he documents different stages of animal life. His beautiful photographs and child friendly text are purely his own.
