Curse of the Bracelet - Ken Barney

    CHAPTER 1

This was such a wonderful way to spend the day. Especially, after the long trip it took to get there. Then, the hectic preparations of setting up camp. The breeze being warm, made it relaxing, lying on the beach. Kirk, fell asleep. He jumped to his feet, when someone screamed. Looking around, a man lay motionless in the water. Several people swam toward him. It was not long until two people reached the guy. The three, started back toward shore.

Someone screamed, get an ambulance! Get an ambulance.

The rescuers having gone about fifteen feet came to a halt, when a big white luminous object emerged from the sea.

Kirk, Stood, not believing his eyes. He watched as it picked up the three people. With screams of pain and screams from the people on shore the creature engulfed the three men.

Several policemen and the ambulance arrived as the last person disappeared. The police, fired several shots. The bullets had no affect on the object.

Kirk, had to sit. Paul, Jake and he, were the only ones from the group, who came to the beach. Looking, he could not see either of them. The other nine, stayed at camp. Kirk got up and started toward the beach. He wanted to make sure, both Paul and Jake were safe. He only took a few steps, when Paul stepped into the open. Kirk, waited for him.

Kirk asked Paul, as he came into speaking range, Where is Jake?

He is still by the beach with some of the families. He will wait, for the policemen to take over. Some of the Women and children were families of the three men the creature got.

Kirk, commented after a few seconds. This must be a bad dream I’m having!

No Kirk, you’re not dreaming. What we saw, was real and did happen.

Not saying anything, Kirk nodded his head.

Kirk, looked around, then, spoke. This is unreal to think this could happen in the twentieth Century.

    That’s for sure Kirk!

Eighty people, stood wondering what happened. Several policemen were getting statements. Most of the women and some of the men were to hysterical for questioning. The medical personnel had to give medication to several people.

    Here comes Jake now Kirk!

A police officer came with him.

What a way to start a vacation. Jake spoke as he came to a stop.

The police officer stopped in front of both of them. The officer spoke.

Could you two give me your account of what you saw? Many are upset or scared and don’t want to get involved.

Paul, you tell the Officer what you saw, Kirk spoke.

Then, he walked to his gear, so he couldn’t here Paul’s account. Jake stayed with Paul and the Officer.

Kirk thoughts ran wild at what happened. He ran everything through his mind, having a hard time believing it. Bill startled Kirk, when he spoke.

Kirk, What is all the noise down here. Is everything all right?

Hello, Bill, Bob. You two would not believe what we saw.

Bob spoke. Godzilla came from beneath the ocean and scared all of you.

    They both chuckled.

Laugh if you want, but you’re not far from being right.

Both of them, looked at each other, then at Kirk.

Well, tell us what happened Kirk?

You two can hear my account when the Officer comes to get my statement.

Statement! What did you do, to warrant a statement?

It’s not me Bill, but a what!

It wasn’t long until the Officer, Jake and Paul came to where they stood.

    Well, a—!

    Call me Kirk, Officer.

Okay Kirk, could you tell me where you were and what you saw?

After telling his account, Bill and Bob, stood looking at everyone. Neither of them said anything. The Officer finished writing his thoughts. During those few minutes, everyone thought about what they just heard.

The Officer spoke, breaking the silence. Your statement is just like the others. It’s hard to believe.

We were here Officer, and were not sure we believe it.

Will you be around for awhile, the Officer asked? Continuing, if we need to get these statements in writing!

We’ll be here for about one month officer, so if you need more information, you can come to see us anytime.

The Officer reached out and Kirk, shook his hand. Nodding at Bob and Bill, he left to go back to where the other people waited. Both Bob and Bill stood they’re staring at Kirk, Paul and Jake.

After several seconds, that felt like minutes, Bill spoke. I’m not sure, but you must all be putting us on!

Bob looked at Kirk. He spoke, Kirk, I’m not sure this isn’t far from some shows we have seen! It sounds like many of the science fiction pictures we’ve seen. The setting has all of the same type methods, but it couldn’t happen this day and age.

What happened here was not science fiction. It will not be playing at any movie theaters.

Bob spoke, we should have kept our mouths shut about creatures coming out of the sea!

You didn’t know what happened, until you heard about it.

I’m not sure we believe what we heard.

You believe what you want Bob. We’re not convinced, and we saw it.

The two, looked at Kirk and shrugged their shoulders.

Lets go back to camp, Bob said as he started to help Kirk pick his gear up.

You and the others go on ahead. I’ll make sure I get everything.

Paul and Jake took their time walking to camp. Both of them, waited for Kirk, to catch them. Bob and Bill reached camp first. Both of them, were telling the rest of the group what happened, as Kirk, Paul and Jake walked into camp. Bill and Bob finishing telling them, what happened.

Everyone must have sensed none of the three wanted to talk. None of them, asked any questions. Kirk went to his tent, he lay on his bunk. He thought about the past three years and the reasons they were here.

Twelve of them, came on this exploration. Each, took one months leave from work. Paul, Jake, Bill, Bob and Kirk, worked for the Government. John and Don own and operate Service Stations. Steve, Jack and Mark work for the state. Mike and Mort work for US Steel.

The twelve of them met about three years ago on bowling leagues. After the first year, they became good friends. Even their wives, became friends with each other. As a group, they often got together to talk or exchange information about lost mines or lost treasures.

After several months of pooling information. Then, gathering information, looking at all of the different accounts of lost treasure, everyone agreed to search one area. During the planning, they often brought their wives. The wives, not wanting to listen to their wild plans, would always make up excuses to go to another room. None of them, wanted to listen to the men’s day dreaming. It didn’t take long, for the wives to get bored with tails of ghost mines, or lost treasures.

Last year everyone agreed to spend one month on one particular treasure hunt. After comparing lost treasures, they agreed they would look for the treasure of Captain Horn.

As the tale went, Captain Horn’s ship got sunk, after many years of his piratering the seven seas. The Captain who disabled Horn’s ship, sent twenty of his men to search for survivors before it sank. The party boarding Horn’s ship, found two survivors. No treasure got found on the ship. The Captain, had the two questioned. After interrogation and torturing Horn’s men, they found out he returned to this coast. Neither of the captors knew where the treasure got hid.

Having suffered extensive damage the Captain headed his ship for home. He would get his ship fixed, before going to the coast, where Kirk and the others now camped.

It didn’t take long for the news of the sinking of Captain Horn’s ship, to travel, with the news reaching other Countries.

Captain DeLong, heard of the sinking of Horn’s ship. He contacted Captain Andrews, to see if they could send ships and men to help.

Captain Andrews, agreed that Captain DeLong could go.

Captain Andrews was in charge of the expedition, and Captain DeLong, agreed to obey his orders.

Kirk, wondered which countries those two captains came from. The records, never said any specific country. He guessed, it had to be England, Britain or Spain. He only guessed.

After repairs and stocking two ships. Captain Andrews, set sail with two ships, for this area. Also, two ships under the command of Captain DeLong, set sail with Captain Andrews.

Upon their arrival. The three ships, fought the biggest battle they had ever fought.

Captain Andrews ship, took the lead. His ship, received the worst damaged. None of the ships could make it within landing distance. The fight, was from ship, to land. The battle lasted three to four days before the four ships, wiped out most of the guns.

On the forth day, Captain Horn’s people, stopped using their cannons. Both Captains, knew, they had exhausted their gun powder. Both Captains, made preparations to send men to the beach.

The survivors on land, spent all night setting traps. Everyone, knew the next attack would come on their land.

On the sixth day, Captain Andrews and DeLong’s men, came onto the beach at day break. The battle lasted many hours before Captain Horn’s followers were beaten. Those that could, retreated into the dense foliage.

Captain Andrews men, suffered the biggest loss of men. Captain Andrews didn’t want Captain DeLong’s men finding the treasure. He sent them in directions he knew, they would not engage in any fighting.

After the fighting got over, both Captain’s built strongholds on the beach.

Several weeks passed. Neither of the Captain’s men, caught or shot any more of Horn’s people. Captain Andrews ordered forty of his men to stay while the ships went back for provisions and more men. Captain DeLong, wanted to stay longer. Having agreed to take orders from Captain Andrews, he left with them.

Captain DeLong, could only leave fifteen men to help in the search for other survivors. He wanted to leave more. Captain Andrews would not allow him to leave more. Before any of the ships left, a temporary fort got built.

The fifty five men spent weeks searching for the treasure and to capture more of Horn’s followers. Over the next few months, they only caught several people. Those got caught while trying to get food for themselves and others in hiding.

During the search, some of Captain Andrews men, never returned to the fort. The Officer in charge ordered the men to search in groups of four. With doing that, no one came up missing, and no more of Captain Horn’s people got caught.

The first ships to arrived back were Captain DeLong ships. There were only thirty men left when he arrived. Nine, were his men.

The weeks and the many years to follow, produced no treasure. There have been many tries by treasure seekers coming to this area to look for the treasure. Many lost there lives do to carelessness. Then, other caught sickness, got bit by snakes or other natural or unnatural acts.

Kirk and his friends, decided to search this area. The one treasure close to home, Kirk didn’t want to look for. To many, would cause problems, if the group, looked for Cornelius’ gold mine.

The hardest part was to get their wives to accept this expedition. Then, convincing them it would not be any fun for them. After talking with their wives, the ones that wanted to come reluctantly agreed to let them come alone. Kirk now wondered, if they should have come.

Lying on his bed, Kirk, thought of Sue Lynn and the children. His thoughts got interrupted when Mike called his name.

    Kirk, you awake?

    Answering, Yes Mike.

Sorry to wake you Kirk, but dinner is ready. We need to plan where we will hunt tomorrow, even if you do not eat.

I’ll be right their, Mike. I need to make a trip first.

    Okay Kirk.

Kirk, got up. He went to the restroom before heading to the kitchen tent. At present, Kirk did not feel like eating. Mike met Kirk at the opening of the kitchen tent.

Kirk, spoke to Mike, lets go in and eat.

Mike nodded and smiled as he opened the tent flap to let him in. The rest of the crew was already sitting at the table. Steve was talking about his day in town, as they went to their chairs and sat down.

Glad you could join the group. I, Just started, so you two have not missed anything.

Mike and Kirk, nodded their heads.

Steve began again. Spending what time I wanted in the clubs, I listened for information. Most of the clubs did not have many people in them. Someone did mentioned a person, who has lived and hunted this area for close to forty years.

What’s his name Steve, Bill asked?

The one talking, only mentioned his first name. He called him Marv. Not wanting to direct attention, I listened for awhile.

Most of the talk was about what happened at the beach. So, when the commotion calms down, I’ll find out his full name.

If you want Steve, we could go later tonight to some of the clubs, spoke John. Continuing. That would be a better time to find out more information. Maybe we can find out the better areas to search.

Steve started to speak, but could only shake his head, as Bill spoke.

    Okay, here’s dinner.

Bill sat a pot of stew on the table.

Dig in, that’s all you’re getting tonight.

Bob picked up the cup. He dished out portions to everyone as they handed him their plates. When he got to Kirk.

Kirk spoke. Just give me a little Bob.

    Bob looked at Kirk.

I’ll get more if I’m still hungry.

Don passed the crackers and bread around. Everyone ate in silence. Kirk, took his time eating the little portion he had. After several minutes, he noticed, no one else ate. He looked, to see everyone watching him. Looking at Bob who was directly across from him. He laughed when Kirk, looked at him.

Kirk, you must have been a thousand miles from here.

Guess I was Bob. I thought about the last few years of gathering information. Then, going over what brought us here.

We all have been doing about the same Kirk. We all came because we needed a break from our everyday workloads. We may not find any treasure, but I’m going to have fun.

So am I, Bob, but it’s not starting like it should.

Boy that’s for sure, said Paul and Jake together.

With me being the oldest, spoke Bill. I will start this planning session.

Kirk spoke, You won’t get an argument from everyone.

    What, that I’m the oldest?

Your talking Bill, so keep going.

Not for long Kirk, we all agreed someone has to do the organizing and planning. We agreed you get to do it.

    Bill, you are doing fine.

No, Kirk, you get to do it.

Kirk, looked at each of them with his piercing eyes, they often accuse him of having.

You know, I probably would have taken charge anyway.

    Everyone laughed.

That’s not why we selected you Kirk. You have been the one keeping everyone on track, through the planning of this expedition. You know what requires accomplishing and will get them done.

Stop, stop, he’ll get a big head, spoke Bob.

Again, everyone laughed. When they calmed down, Kirk spoke.

Okay, lets plan our hunt for tomorrow. John, you get the map. While he’s doing that, someone needs to clean the table. I’ll get some paper.

Everyone pitched in and accomplished what needed to get done. The table got cleaned before John got back with the map.

Here Kirk, John said, as he handed Kirk the map.

Opening it, Kirk, laid it on the table. He scanned the map, to get his bearings. He marked where camp would be, on the map. Then, he ran his finger over the known trails, going back to where camp would be.

Finally speaking, We are here and should search North and South.

Pointing to the map. The search North will not take long, so one crew can search there tomorrow. The other crews can search to the south, about this area. Kirk, ran his finger across the map. By late afternoon, the crew searching North can catch up with the other crews here, again pointing to the map. There will be no need stopping to look until reaching this area.

Looking around Kirk asked, How does that sound.

    Everyone nodded their heads yes.

Who are the crews Kirk, spoke Jake.

Well Jake, giving it a lot of thought, we should stay in groups of three.

Bill and Mike will stay to take care of camp. The two of them, will guard camp. Someone needs to stay here most of the time. Short stays away, will not matter. We have nothing of value to worry about. What we do have, we can replace from town.

Kirk, looked at both Bill and Mike.

That is if it will not offend either of you.

Not I, Kirk. I’ll be glad to stay at camp, that is if none of the others mind.

    No one will mind Bill!

    Sounds good Kirk, spoke Mike.

With that settled, you two stay at camp, speaking as Kirk, looked around the table.

Receiving approving nods from everyone, Mike spoke.

Okay, Bill and I will do the dishes now we know what we are to do. No need for us to watch.

You two go right ahead Mike.

Just one minute Mike, spoke Bill.

Continuing, he spoke. The area North, is not far from camp. Mike and I could search there. That would leave the other crews a better span, in searching South.

    Bill looked at Mike.

Do you think you can make it old man, Mike spoke before Bill could say anything else.

    Bill stuttered at that.

Old man, your as old as I am.

Everyone laughed. Kirk, smiled, then, spoke.

That would help if you two would search the Northern area. That would make it so the rest, could search the whole width, running his hand over the map.

Plan the search south, we will search to the North.

Good, that will make four groups of searchers.

Mike and Bill being the first group. Paul, Jake, Bob and John will be the second group. Steve, Jack and Mark, third and Don, Mort and I will be the fourth group. I made the assignments by age. Is there any disagreement with this arrangement?

No Kirk that’s fine, we need you younger ones to look through the harder areas.

After everyone laughed, and everyone settled back down, Kirk spoke.

Mike and Bill know where they will search.

Paul, your group will search here, reaching this place right here by noon. Steve, your group will search the area just right of Paul’s group. Starting here and reaching the same place, by noon. My group will search to the right of Steve’s group.

After a pause, he continued. My group has the most area to cover. With the lunch area being here, we should all meet at lunch time. Make sure you search as thorough as you can. Even under the brush. We don’t know how much underbrush was here, during Captain Horn’s settlement.

If any group cannot make it to the stopping area by noon, mark your maps. Then, head for the lunch area. We need to keep in touch with each other at least once throughout the day.

    Kirk glanced around the table.

I figure it should take a week to search the lower areas. That will leave the rest of the time for searching the cliff areas.

    Kirk?

    Yes Jack.

I brought metal detectors, each group should take.

Thanks Jack, I forgot you brought them. Each group will get a metal detector from Jack. Be sure you know how to use it before you leave in the morning.

I will show everyone how to use them Kirk!

No need to show everyone Jack, assign them to one person from each group and show the four. Most everyone have used one in the past, but each make has there own adjustments.

Looking the areas over one more time, Kirk continued.

That will change the search time, so lets change the stopping point to here, pointing to an area not as far.

We should get up around three or three thirty, so we can begin searching by four thirty. It gets dark around eleven thirty, so we should plan our sleeping time from ten to three thirty. It’s about ten thirty now, so we should get some rest before our big day tomorrow.

The groups gathered their maps and gear, while Kirk folded the big map.

Not being sleepy, Kirk took his time in getting to bed. There were five tents to sleep in, one storage and the kitchen tent. Bill, rented the kitchen tent from the towns people. The camp consisted of seven tents.

When Kirk got to bed, Jake was fast asleep. Being warm, Kirk laid on top of the covers. Going over everything that happened, before falling asleep.

Kirk, awoke to water splashing in his face. He took several steps backwards. Realizing he was walking into the ocean.

There were many people going into the ocean. More people, were coming across the beach toward the water. It looked as if Kirk was the only one awake. Moving to the nearest person walking in the ocean, Kirk awoke him.

Looking at Kirk, then the water, he said, What am I doing in the water?

I don’t know what is going on. We need to wake the rest of the people.

With his help, they began waking everyone. Jake being the farthest from shore, Kirk did not know if he could get to him. Kirk yelled in hopes Jake would hear him. Some others awoke to Kirk’s yelling. Kirk, realized Paul was not far from him. He awoke, when Kirk yelled at Jake.

Paul also yelled at Jake, but Jake kept going. Other people, tried to wake Jake when they seen he didn’t respond to Kirk’s or Paul’s screams. Everyone, stopped shouting when a white luminous creature bubbled up from the sea, not far from Jake. Everyone began yelling at the top of their lungs, trying to wake Jake.

Jake must have awaken when the creature picked him up. Everyone began hurrying as fast as they could, toward shore. The creature caught four others that couldn’t get away from it.

The white creature, let out a shrill yell, or cry, piercing Kirk’s ears. Many people began walking back into the ocean toward the creature. Kirk, began shouting, cover your ears! Cover your ears! People began running to those who were still walking as if they were in a trance. The creature began swaying back and forth pointing it’s arm like objects. It looked as if it pointed toward Kirk. Everyone, noticed the creature pointing, and knew it was mad.

The police, Bill, Mike and others arrived while the creature swayed, making shrill sounds. The Officers fired at the creature with the guns they had brought. The shots did not phase the creature. It slipped into the sea. Bill and Mike reached Kirk first, with the others right behind them.

Is that what you seen yesterday Kirk?

Yes, and It has powers that will make it hard to deal with.

Bill looked around and asked? Where is Jake?

All Kirk could do was point to the ocean.

    You mean, it got him.

Yes, even with the shouting and screaming we did. He did not wake up until the creature got him.

Was he, the only one, asked Mike?

No, it also got four of the towns people.

Everyone stood there longer, until the Police ordered everyone home. A man dressed like a detective, walked to where Kirk and the others stood.

Hello, my name is Theo. I’m the Constable for this area. I understand the creature got one of your group.

Yes, Constable, it got one of our crew, his name is Jake!

You picked a bad time to come here. We have never had anything like this happen.

    We are just lucky then.

He looked at Kirk and said, What do you mean?

Well, were just lucky to be here at the wrong time.

Oh, I see what you mean, Your?

    My name is Kirk.

Some of the towns people claims the creature pointed at you.

It must be, I awoke first and began waking everyone. What would have happened if we did not wake up?

Theo, looked at the people leaving.

Well, you would all be dead by now, he said without looking back at them.

Looking around, Kirk nodded his head in agreement.

You had better go to your camp. I posted a guard on the beach to keep anyone else from disappearing. He has orders to keep everyone off the beach.

I’m not sure it would be a wise idea Constable. The creature has a way of luring people to it.

I have to try Kirk, and you can call me Theo. No one calls me Constable anymore. My friends and those I ask, call me Theo. You can call me Theo.

    Okay Theo!

He said thanks, as he left. Leaving and looking around, Kirk noticed two policemen standing next to the tree line, as he walked back toward camp.

Walking over to them, Kirk spoke. Are you the ones guarding the beach?

Yes, to keep the people off the beach.

That creature lures people into the ocean, so if it does come back, cover your ears.

    Both, nodded yes.

The others from Kirk’s group, were to the trail leading to the camp. Kirk hurried to catch them, so they wouldn’t have to stop and wait. At camp, everyone was too up tight to go to bed. Everyone went to the kitchen tent to talk.

Well, that changes our plans spoke Bill.

Bill fixed hot water. That way, everyone could fix whatever they wanted to drink. Kirk, fixed a cup of hot chocolate before sitting down.

Continuing, Bill said. We need to decide if we stay, or go home.

    Everyone, looked at Kirk.

Kirk spoke. We can’t go home, until we have some answers. Especially, answers for Connie.

Your right Kirk, we need to know what is out there.

Who will call and tell Connie, spoke Mike.

    I will do that Mike.

Why do you have to do it Kirk?

Jake and Connie live around the corner from us. We spent a lot of time with them.

Okay Kirk, you can tell Connie!

While you call her in the morning, do you want everyone to wait for you?

No, we still need to go through with our plans. I will catch up after making the call. Jake would want us to keep searching.

Your right Kirk, we need to find out what we can.

Looking at his watch, it was one thirty.

We should get some sleep if we can, before it’s time to begin the day.

    Everyone went to their tents.

Jake bunked in the tent with Kirk. Now Kirk had the tent to himself, except the food storage. Kirk, lay on his bunk thinking for awhile, before falling asleep.

Sitting straight up, Kirk’s heart pounded ninety miles an hour. After listening for sounds and not hearing anything, Kirk looked at his watch. It was two forty five. He must have only slept for a few minutes. Kirk, sat on the side of his bed. He knew Connie would want him to call. She would want him to call, even if it meant waking her. She wouldn’t forgive him, if he didn’t call. Getting up, he dressed. Kirk started to leave the tent.

    Kirk, wake up.

    Bill, I’m awake!

I’m glad Kirk, I thought maybe the creature may be luring you back to the beach.

I’m going to call Sue Lynn so she can go to Connie’s house before calling her. It’s hard to sleep, thinking of what has happened these last few hours.

You going to go call now?

She would want someone to call, even if it is early morning.

Your right. Do you want me to go with you?

No, you stay here in case the others miss me. You can let them know where I went. No need to wake them at three thirty, let them sleep until four thirty.

Okay, you get back as soon as you can.

    I will!

Kirk, walked toward town. He thought about what he would tell Sue Lynn and Connie. Kirk knew Sue Lynn would get concerned. Then, being glad they only lived around the block from Connie. That way Sue Lynn would not have far to go in the dark.

Standing next to the phone booth, Kirk took a deep breath. Then, he put the money in the slot. He dialed the operator.

What number would you like dialed?

After giving her his card and telephone number, she dialed it. The phone rang about five times before Sue Lynn picked it up.

    Hello honey!

What’s wrong Kirk, I’m having the most horrible feelings since yesterday?

Sue Lynn, listened, while Kirk told her what happened.

    Kirk I’m coming down there!

That is not necessary Sue Lynn, it would mean more people to worry about.

I don’t mean the children, Kirk!

You know, when the others find out what happened and your coming. The others will want to come.

Your right Kirk, we need to talk first. Then, decide what to do.

Lets not talk about it right now, we need to let Connie know what happened.

You want me to tell her Kirk?

No, I need to tell her, so she can ask questions if she wants. I want you to be with her when I tell her.

Kirk, there is a light on at Connie’s.

    You need to go there.

Kirk, gave Sue Lynn the number on the phone, for her to call him.

Give me about ten minutes before expecting my call Kirk.

Okay Sue Lynn, I love you.

I love you too Kirk, she said as they hung up.

It was a long ten minutes before the phone rang. Picking it up, and immediately saying, hello.

Sue Lynn spoke. I’m at Connie’s house Kirk. Connie and the children are here in the front room with me.

Kirk, knew she was there, as Connie was crying in the background.

Sue Lynn, did you already tell her.

No, she knew it, as if she were there. She thought it was just a bad dream, until I got here. I didn’t have to say anything.

Kirk, what is happening there, we feel and see.

Were not sure Sue Lynn, but we are going to find out.

We should have some say Kirk, as to weather you stay or come home.

Stopping to listen when Connie spoke to Sue Lynn, but could not tell what she said.

Connie wants to talk with you Kirk!

Okay Sue Lynn, give her the phone.

    Hello Kirk.

Hello Connie, I’m sorry for not being able to prevent what happened.

Thank you Kirk. You, Paul and some of the others tried waking him, but, hesitating, he was hard to wake up.

    You seen what happened, Connie?

Yes Kirk, up to the time the white object got Jake.

Kirk, knew for sure she saw what happened. Kirk, only referred to the object as a monster when telling Sue Lynn. Kirk continued after a few seconds.

You and your children should not be alone Connie. Especially, at night.

We will be all right Kirk.

Let me talk to Sue Lynn again. Then, we had better get off the phone.

Don’t worry about the phone Kirk, it would have hurt me if you had not called. Here’s Sue Lynn.

Sue Lynn spoke as soon as she got the phone. Kirk, I’m not sure you should stay.

Hearing Connie in the back ground, speaking to Sue Lynn.

Don’t let them come back, until they can tell me why it happened and by what.

    I heard her Sue Lynn.

Kirk, it scares me, but you had better stay.

We were planning to stay, the others were more for staying than I was.

Sue Lynn, Connie should not stay alone. Especially, at nights.

I agree Kirk, they will stay at our house.

Good, guess we had better hang up.

Yes, I did not leave a note for the children. Don’t worry about the phone call Kirk, I charged it to our card. Lowering her voice so Connie would not hear.

    I love you Kirk.

I also love you Sue Lynn.

Be careful Kirk, the creature has power we can even see what happens!

    We’ll be careful Sue Lynn.

Kirk, I’ll call the others when it gets morning.

Sue Lynn paused for several seconds. Kirk, there is a woman, she is yelling for help. I heard her, in my dream. If we can see what’s going on, you need to find her.

Okay Sue Lynn bye for now.

    See you Kirk.

Putting the phone back on the hook, he stood for several minutes. When Kirk finally looked around, Theo was standing by the phone booth.

Opening the phone booth Kirk said, hello Theo.

Hello Kirk, guess it was hard telling her about her husband.

Kirk did not tell him, she already knew.

It wasn’t hard Theo, I called my wife first. She went to Connie’s house to be with her.

Good idea Kirk, but isn’t it early to be telling someone their husband has been the victim of a horrible accident.

It would upset her more, if I waited until morning.

Come Kirk, we can talk as we walk to your camp. I have to go check on my men anyway.

You want me to go with you to the beach Theo.

No, nothing else will happen tonight. My senses tell me, we are safe for the time being.

Kirk, not saying anything, he just looked at him.

Continuing he said, Something I picked up from being a police officer for so long.

    Smiling, they headed toward camp.

The two, talked about Theo’s life there and Kirk’s back home. Theo, stated the local crime there, was getting worse. Kirk explained, it was that way all over. At camp, they stopped and talked, exchanging different ideas. The two, talked about what they could do to change local policies and laws.

Well Kirk, you can get some rest now. I will probably see you sometime during the day.

Okay, I’ll look forward in seeing you again.

He nodded as he left toward the beach.

Going to the kitchen tent there was no one up. Making his way to his tent, he tied the flaps down, to keep them from flapping in the breeze.

Using his flashlight to look around in the tent, to make sure he was alone. After checking, Kirk laid on his bed.

    CHAPTER 2

Awaking to voices, Kirk listened. Bill and Mike were talking to someone. Not moving and trying to figure out who Bill talked to. It was not hard to tell Bill was getting his dandruff up.

Then, Mike spoke. The account given by both Paul, and Kirk yesterday would not change.

The person, had a husky voice, as he began.

We know you have come here to look for the treasure. No one can find it. If you find it, it belongs to the town.

We want to make sure you don’t do anything wrong. One of the others said.

This group, will not do anything wrong George.

    Hearing Theo’s voice.

Constable, we didn’t know you were here.

That’s obvious George, you’re stepping out of line.

"We just wanted to get more
