About this ebook

Rap to Mars, a book of poetry, satire, and prose, attempts by words and art to dissect and sift through diverse aspects
of the life of man in his quest to assert himself as the king or queen of the universe. This is even in spite of mans
obvious lapses, frailties, and entrapment.
During the course of various attempts, sometimes, success smiles on man. But when failures present themselves,
arrogant and deceitful man refuses to accept his obvious limitations.
Often, in his ever-willing efforts to deceive the more gullible, man in his cowardice plays the monkey that uses the cats
paws to extract nuts from the fi re.
From a safe distance, the minion, man, details his more gullible fellow men to sacrifi ce themselves and others in silly
and assumed defense of the Almighty Maker. The martyr and suicide bomber along with their victims become the
willing and unwilling by-products
But even in spite of his sometimes comical shenanigans, man, who unsuccessfully plays the angel on Earth, remains
man and suffers or causes others to suffer the pains arising from a perpetual struggle between the good and the bad as
represented in Rap to Mars by Earths angels, suicide bombers, and whores.
At the end of the day, man, mere mortal man, still fi nds himself trapped in his self-imposed cocoon of a shanty or a
mansion. In the latter, man again plays the elitist parent of a lone child while the downtrodden fi nd their pleasure by
doggedly obeying the injunction of increase and multiply.
Rap to Mars is a mixed grill of fun, challenges, and what the evolving society was, what it is, and what it should fi ght
hard not to be.

    Appreciation

I wish to appreciate and commend my very good friend Nwachukwu Nnoka, a great friend, architect, and author whose beautiful book of poetry Masque acted as a catalyst toward the completion of Rap to Mars.

    CHAPTER 1

    The Knock, A Familiar Game

    Knock, knock, knock!

The news, the news! Give us the news!

    Knock, knock, knock!

    No news is good news

    Knock, knock, knock

Any news is news, a Napoleon has fled!

    Which Napoleon has fled:

    The genuine or the fake?

Your Napoleon indeed, ours is fake

Mine or yours, which one is fake?

Theirs is fake, but mine is worse.

Theirs indeed is fake, but mine is on the run

Yours is standing, but his legs are wobbly

Yours may be trembling, but mine is sleeping

Asleep indeed he is, but mine is awake

Get on at it, yours is worse

Yours, indeed is worse, but mine is sleeping

Yours may be sleeping, but one eye is open

Knock, knock, knock, yours has awakened

Put him on the run, for mine is sleeping

Yes, indeed he is, but mine is cheating

Put yours on the run for mine is snoring

His snore is loud, and my ears are hurting

My ears are hurting but your lips are smiling!

Knock, knock, knock, the sun is setting

When the sun sets, mine is back to sleep

Knock, knock, knock, the sleep is pretense

Put him under the hatchet for the sleep to be eternal

Knock, knock, knock, no sleep is eternal

An eternal sleep is in vogue and is best for a tyrant

Knock, knock, knock, the bloke is awake

He is awake indeed, and he will hear my whispers

Knock, knock, knock, the tyrant hears my whispers

And when he hears my whispers, my head may be chopped

Knock, knock, knock, my shoulder is hurting

My head is on my shoulder, but yours may soon be missing

Knock, knock, knock, your mind is missing

Your mind is missing and your eyes are dim

Knock, knock, knock, why can’t you see,

Why can’t you hear that your Napoleon is a robber?

Knock, knock, knock, my Napoleon, a robber?

A robber of your resources, but your resolve is weak

Knock, knock, knock, your heart is faint

Your hands are strong, but your heart is faint.

Knock, knock, knock, strengthen up your muscles!

Strengthen up your muscles for your resolve to be through.

Knock, knock, knock, the night has come.

The night has come, but the day will follow

The light will shine, but on those with resolve.

Yes, it will shine but only for the strong

Knock, knock, knock, the message has been sent.

The message has been sent but to those with ears.

Knock, knock, knock, and for those without ears?

Those without ears will head for the gallows

    Freedom is for the strong

Knock, knock, knock, and what of the weak?

The weak will be selected against and their tribe will perish

Knock, knock, knock, is Charles Darwin in the picture

Darwin must be right for freedom is for the strong.

Knock, knock, knock, grab now your freedom

Freedom may be free, but the gift is for the strong.

Knock, knock, knock, the strength is in you

The strength is in you, but your resolve is weak.

Knock, knock, knock, the world is watching

The world is watching and your actions are on the web.

Knock, knock, knock, the web is for freedom

The web is for freedom, but the message is for the seeing.

Knock, knock, knock, the message is free

The message may be free, but the audience must be enticed.

Knock, knock, knock, the audience are rappers

The audience are rappers, but they still must be enticed

Knock, knock, knock, the audience must be enticed

The audience must be enticed and your actions must be inviting.

Knock, knock, knock, the actions must be sweet,

Sweet actions these are, but only for the strong.

Knock, knock, knock, sweet actions are here

The lionhearted are needed, but they don’t have to be lions.

Knock, knock, knock, wake up the lions

The lion is in you, only you have been dumb.

Knock, knock, knock, stir up your anger

Your anger is the lion, all you need is a stirrer

Knock, knock, knock, the stirrer is in you

The stirrer is injustice, and it’s already seen by you.

Knock, knock, knock, injustice is already here,

It is already here and the world is a witness.

Knock, knock, knock, the world is the jury

The world is the jury, but she still vacillates.

Knock, knock, knock, you wait on the world

You wait on the world, then you wait forever

Knock, knock, knock, the world is for the strong

The world is for the strong and the weak are but puppets

Knock, knock, knock, the world loathes justice

The world is for injustice or your mind is in denial

Knock, knock, knock, your mind must be dreaming

Your mind must be dreaming to be asking for justice

Knock, knock, knock, where is the injustice?

Where is the injustice, then your mind is a liar

Knock, knock, knock, your mind is partial

Your mind is partial, and you say you have no sin.

Knock, knock, knock, you say you have no sin

If you say you have no sin, then your mind is a liar.

Knock, knock, knock, the world mocks your mind,

The world mocks your mind, for your mind is a joker.

Knock, knock, knock; show me the lie!

Show me the lie, or your being is a liar.

Knock, knock, knock, the lie is in your lips

The lie is in your lips and you have uttered it to the world.

Knock, knock, knock, your lies hold you hostage

Your lies hold you hostage, and your being is in bondage

Knock, knock, knock; a prisoner of lies,

A prisoner of lies masquerading as a saint.

Knock, knock, knock, my men are watching,

My men are watching but yours are armed.

Knock, knock, knock, the onus is on you,

The onus is on you to show me you are genuine.

Knock, knock, knock, is there no time to ponder?

There is no time to ponder, for my men are angry.

Knock, knock, knock, my men too are angry

My men are angry and the gallows are hungry.

Knock, knock, knock, you test my patience

    You test
