Author

Tony Vincent

I am retired and living in Florida, with my beloved wife Wanda and my dog Treasure. I grew up in Bellmore, Long Island, N.Y., and worked in many management jobs, real estate, and for the U.S.P.S. Now, I enjoy my life in the Villages, Florida, playing golf, going on my boat, seeing my wonderful family, good friends, and holding and kissing my grandson. My wife, my dog and I were in a terrible head -on collision, with an old pick-up truck. I wrote this story as therapy for myself to keep my mind off my broken bones and the excruciating daily pain that I was in. I always loved reading Treasure Island, So; I made up my own conclusions of what I hoped would transpire. When you matey’s out there read my story, Silver and Hawkins, I hope you truly enjoy it and recommend it to your fellow pirate fans.... and don’t forget, there is a clue in my book as to where I buried a Treasure Chest with $1000.00 in Coins.

There are two books that I recommend, for all to enjoy. John O’Melveny Woods book, Return to Treasure Island and The Curse of Treasure Island by Denis Judd (using pseudonym Francis Bryan.) Keep a look out for Andrew Motion’s sequel to Treasure Island in Spring of 2012.

I dedicate this book to all the fans around the world of Robert Louis Stevenson’s book Treasure Island, which, in my humble opinion, is the greatest pirate and adventure story ever written. I would also like to dedicate this book to my wonderful wife Wanda. We both were together in our car, with our dog Treasure, driving on a beautiful Florida afternoon. In less than a blink of an eye, we were hit head-on by a large pick-up truck. It took many long years of us healing broken bones, bruises, rehab, therapy, MRIs, x-rays, doctors, wheelchair’s, walkers, operations, and endless paperwork. We still continue to this day, to have permanent injuries. I admire her attitude for saying, Let’s get through this one day at a time. She kept her mental outlook and sense of humor throughout the trauma. I kept my mental and physical pain subsided through focusing on writing this book. My blame for the other driver’s negligence was tearing me apart, but one must push blame aside and continue his or her life. We both thank God, our family, and our friends for their strength and support in our time of need. A heartfelt thanks to our friends and neighbors in The Villages, Florida, Kimmie D..a saintly women who came to our home everyday to help in every way she could. Joe and Gail T. Elaine B., Charles and Barbara B., and all those who helped us in action and in praise. I would like to thank my good friend, confidant, and fishing buddy Victor L. and his wife Carol for their friendship over the years. My pastor and friend Ken P. and his wife Judy were my rock, and I know their prayers and thoughts were with us during the grievous times. I would like to thank wholeheartedly my sister Jessie and her husband Steve D. and their two children Michelle and John for their love and support. My sister-in-law Janet and her husband Michael C. for helping my wife and myself through our troubled circumstances. Wanda’s two boys Martin S. and David S. were very instrumental in our recovery and gave us hope and love. On November 1, 2010, I became a grandfather of a beautiful baby boy named Aiden, whose parents Martin and Courtney S. gave me the greatest gift of my life, my grandchild. When I am no longer in this world and I have paid the Ferryman, my love, spirit, and legacy will remain within this child.

    God bless one and all,

    With love,

    Tony Vincent

A very special Thank You to Anita Buhneing for drawing the wonderful illustrations in my book.

PS: I would like to thank Howard Stern, Robin Quivers and the entire crew for making me laugh, during my ordeal every time I listened to the Sirius XM radio. I have been a admirer for well over twenty years and Mr. Stern was then and still is the best form of therapy and entertainment on our planet. It is a shame that some people consider him to be just vulgar and will not acknowledge his unsurpassed talent to entertain people and make them laugh. These folks do not appreciate his quick wit or hear his empathy towards people;nor do they feel his love for helpless animals. I wish for both him and his wife Beth; long, happy and healthy lives, and whatever they decide to do in their futures will be celebrated and self fulfilling.Howard’s accolades are well overdue;and he truly is the, King of All Media!

I apologize to all the connoisseur’s in advance. I wrote this story for pure entertainment of pirate fans, young and old. I kept the bad language out and focused on a nice story.1/4—with romance-1/4 with pirate behaviors-1/4 with humor and 1/4 with learning nautical terms, which = 100% FUN!

If I said it took 3 days, instead of 4; to get from one town to another; my bad. If a character was wearing a blue gown, and the color blue was not invented during the time period of my story; my bad. If a crewman weighed 200lbs., instead of 212lbs, my bad.The point being, even Robert Louis Stevenson was criticized and his book picked apart; for example, he referred to the Viceroy of the Indies, a ship sailing from Goa, India (then a Portuguese colony), which was taken by Edward England off Malabar while Long John Silver was serving aboard England’s ship the Cassandra. No such exploit of England is known, nor any ship by the name of the Viceroy of the Indies . . . Big Deal!

Some people are not such sticklers for details, they just want to read a simple story to their children, some young adults just want to read and escape into their own imaginations, and some mature adults like to read to unwind from the stress of everyday life and just relax.

Some folks will see a movie and say, The book was much better. Some will say, The movie was as good as the book. Some say. I have to read the book, now that I saw the movie. Others will say, Now that I saw the movie I have to read the book. While even other people will say, I hated that movie. and some folks say. That movie was fantastic!!!! Anyway you slice it . . . it’s all good! Everyone just stay health and enjoy every day. Arghhh

P.S.—FOR PARENTS: Some of my books content is not suitable for very young children, it is not because of bad language, it is because when pirates are written about, they are usually violent and their behaviors are criminal. With that in mind, do not subject your children to this brutality; read the book yourself and then skip the gory parts. If you do decide to get them interested in the continuation of the fictional story of Silver and Hawkins, I am sure it will peak their interested in the original story of Treasure Island as well; which as you well know is the greatest adventure and pirate story ever written.

What I would do; is read them Treasure Island first, then see if they want to know what might have happened to Jim Hawkins, his friends, and that scheming pirate Long John Silver.

    JUST FOR FUN:

Since I wrote this fictional story, I can also Fantasize if this book were to be made into a movie, and what directors, actors, and artists, I would choose to play the parts of my main characters. Calling all Producers, Call-me . . . We’ll do lunch:)If I sell enough copies of this book, I would hope to be a one of the Producers of the Movie Silver and Hawkins . . . If some of the Premium channels such as, Showtime, Home Box Office, Starz, and the like, would be interested in a awesome Pirate Series . . . don’t hesitate to contact me.

One can dream can’t they! Arghhh

(Them that partakes be the lucky ones)

I will only comment on only one of the artists, which is Mr. Billy Joel . . . in my opinion he is a legend, who has conquered Pop/Rock’n Roll music; now he is pursuing classical, who better than he to score a movie, with his style of song writing and skills as a pianist? I will answer that question myself; No One! I know he would take on any Musical Challenge if properly presented to him.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR,

    TONY VINCENT

When I was just a young lad, one of the first books I ever read and got excited about or even remembered in my childhood was Treasure Island, which was written by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Now I am retired and living in The Villages, Florida, with my wife Wanda and my dog Treasure. Sadly, my wife and I are all recovering from a terrible head-on collision with another vehicle. I decided as therapy for myself, I would continue the greatest pirate story ever written. I read Treasure Island at least twice a year for so many years, I scarcely remember how many times I read it. I watched almost every movie that was made about Treasure Island, cartoons included. I also read as many pirate books as a person can get their hands on, and watched just about every pirate movie that has been out.

I am happy to tell the new readers and fans of the original Treasure Island that I painstakingly made sure that the remaining characters that returned from Skeleton Island were given the utmost care, and their personalities were sustained throughout the book; however, I did embellish them with more descriptions and details about their lives in my story. I introduced some of the new characters with humor, some of them with ungodly behaviors, and many of hordes are just wicked and bizarre.

When reading about pirates, and ships, and such, I learned a lot of nautical terms, so I included some in my story, and hopefully this will be a learning experience as well as a fun book for all you buccaneers out there.

I was intrigued and at the same time saddened, because I did not want the book Treasure Island to ever end. It left me wanting for more, and I needed to get some sort of closure, on those characters that had returned from Skeleton Island.

My first thought and question was, what happened to Long John Silver after his escape from the Hispaniola? Then I wanted to know what became of Jim Hawkins, his mother, and his good friends Dr. Livesey, and SquireTrelawney? What had befallen Ben Gunn, the marooned pirate, who mismanaged his booty? After getting equal shares of the treasure, how did they fare in their remarkable lives? So I made up my own conclusions of what I hoped would transpire.

My ambition was and is, that all you maties out there who read my story, Silver and Hawkins, truly enjoy it and recommend it to their fellow pirate fans . . . and don’t forget, there is a clue in my book as to where I buried a treasure chest with $1, 000 in coins. Arghhh . . . .

This is some information I found on the Internet to help the reader understand the plot from the original Treasure Island by the author Robert Louis Stevenson (I would like to give credit to whoever wrote this, but I cannot find the Web page I downloaded this from years ago).

    CHARACTERS FROM TREASURE ISLAND

Long John Silver is what we imagine a pirate should be: cunning, sly, bloodthirsty, peg-legged, and with a parrot on his shoulder. He was quartermaster on Captain Flint’s ship; his task was to steer the ship and apply the helm orders given by the captain or watch-keeping officers.

Dr. Livesey is the local medical man and judge in Jim’s hometown back in England. He’s also friends with Squire Trelawney and part of the original group of treasure hunters.

Squire Trelawney is a local example of the landed gentry or nobility in Jim’s hometown; he has aristocratic blood.

Captain Smollett is a stand-up guy, but he’s also all about the discipline. The way he knows there’s something wrong with the crew is that they’ve been spoiled.

Ben Gunn is a marooned sailor Jim Hawkins finds on the island. He had been a part of Captain Flint’s crew, like Long John Silver and Billy Bones. But unlike these men, absolutely no one respects him.

Abraham Gray, the one loyal sailor in the whole crew, is on his first sea voyage, fresh from the countryside. He decides to ditch Israel Hands and join Captain Smollett during their first skirmish aboard the Hispaniola because he has not spent enough time around his fellow crewmen—pirates all—to be corrupted.

Billy Bones is the hard-drinking, sea-chanty-singing pirate who first appears at the Admiral Benbow Inn seeking a quiet, out-of-the-way place to live.

Tom Redruth, Richard Joyce, John Hunter, three of Squire Trelawney’s named servants, accompany him on his voyage to Treasure Island.

    The Pirate Crew

According to Robert Louis Stevenson, pirating is not just a job, it’s a way of life. By which we mean that all the pirates in this book seem to have basically the same characteristics.

Black Dog is the pale pirate, missing two fingers, who confronts Billy Bones at the Admiral Benbow Inn. Jim also sees Black Dog talking to Tom Morgan at Long John Silver’s bar, the Spy-Glass Inn.

Blind Pew is the blind pirate who delivers the black spot—a summons to appear at a certain time—to Billy Bones. After seeing Pew, Billy Bones has a sudden heart attack.

Dick and Johnny—these are two random pirates Pew calls for in confusion as he tries to escape the Admiral Benbow Inn. Because he’s blind and unfamiliar with the terrain, he gets turned around as all the pirates run off. Pew gets trampled to death by horses.

Tom Morgan is chatting with Black Dog at the Spy-Glass pub when Jim first sees him. Jim believes at first that Tom
