Since then, most of the nations Chiefs-of-state assumed power through revolutions, or coups detat. Currently, the nation experiences 33 coups detat. From February 1986 to September 1991, seven coups or attempted coups detat had taken place in Haiti. That is that period of social and political instability that is exposed in this book. (In the post opinions, the author speaks briefly about the problematic of the army involvement in coups detat in Haiti, the January 12, 2010 Earthquake as well as the need for a new Haitian Armed Forces.)
The book is made available to help Haitians or foreigners in particular those who are curious about Haitis history, including observers,professors, students, politicians, ordinary people, etc. Everybody should be capable of judging for himself or for herself on the countrys situation during and after the fall of the Duvaliers from power in February 1986.
By writing this essay, the author encourages all Haitians that live inside the country or abroad to come to unity. That is a powerful tool that can bring Haiti to a dramatic turn toward consistent DEMOCRACY and economic development.
Rev. Emmanuel Dumay
An Ordained Minister, Theologian, Political Observer, former Secretary of "COJEDEF", Comite des Jeunes Pour le Developpement de Freres (Youth Committee for the Development of Freres), 1986-1988; Reverend Emmanuel Dumay, the grandson of a former officer in the Army of Haiti, was born and grew up at Freres, Petionville, Haiti, where two of the most modernized and well accommodated military camps: the prestigious Military Academy and the Leopards Corps, located. He achieved his education in Haiti, as he graduated from the reputed and prestigious Nazarene Bible Seminary, where he studied Theology from 1989 to 1993. The same year 1993, he traveled to the United States to further his education in History, English, and Theology. While writing this book he was completing his Doctorate in Theology. In Haiti, Dumay observed cautiously and intently the era of military coups d'etat that prevailed in the country from the downfall of president Jean-Claude Duvalier in 1986 to the first overthrow of president Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 1991, which subsequently resulted to the second U.S. military occupation in 1994 under the Clinton administration. Known for his solid knowledge in History, and as one who morally suffered during on of Haiti's most troublesome and tumultuous time, Rev. Dumay understood researches to achieve this wonderful book: The Era of Military Coups d'Etat - Haiti 1986-1991. By writing this essay, the author intends to encourage all Haitians inside the country or abroad to unity, the powerful tool that can bring the country to a dramatic turn toward consistent Democracy and economic development.
