DEDICATION:
For my dearest husband, Madih Saeed Qazamel, who showed me the Path. For my wonderful children, Miriam, Misbah, Mohammed and Ahmed. For my beautiful daughters-in-law, Yasmin Amy, Enas and May. For my beloved grandchildren, Sara, Naseem, Omar,
Muhammad (Hamoudi) and all those who are to come, in shaa Allah. May we all
meet at the gates of Firdous, in shaa Allah.
You have all made a difference in my life simply by caring and by being there.
My precious ones, wherever your journey in life may take you, I pray you will always be safe and that you will always remember Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) and follow the sunnah of the last Prophet, Muhammad, (sallahlayhi wa salem).
I will always be there for you so never forget your way back home. I hope I have been your first friend, your best friend and your forever friend.
For my dearest sister, Yvonne
I love you to bits and hope we will meet again soon.

Since reverting to Islam in 1981 al Hamdullillah (all praise and thanks to Allah, Most Glorious and Most High), I have read many books, spoken to many fellow Muslims and asked many questions. Although there are more books on Islam than ever before, new Muslims, those thinking about becoming Muslims, or those wondering what Islam is all about, often find that there are so many books that they don’t know where to start. In addition, some of the books are difficult to understand, because of their complex structure.
This book aims at setting out the basic principles of Islam in an easy to read and understand way. Today, there is much controversy about Islam and Muslims. Although current events have highlighted Islam, thus encouraging more people to explore it, extremists and those wishing to give it a bad name have grossly misrepresented it. Muslims believe in the ONE TRUE GOD and follow the SUNNAH of the last Prophet, Muhammad (May peace be upon him) [The word SUNNAH means all of the traditions and practices of the Prophet (May peace be upon him) that have become models to be followed by all Muslims. A Muslim who follows the example of the Prophet Muhammad (May peace be upon him) in all spheres of life is called a SUNNI MUSLIM.]
Those who call themselves Muslims but are neither following the Holy Qur’an, nor the Sunna of the Prophet Muhammad (May peace be upon him) and who moreover are slandering the sahaba
(the companions of the Prophet Muhammad) and in addition, beating themselves as a punishment for the deaths of Hassan and Hussein (the grandsons of the Prophet Muhammad) (May peace be upon him) are NOT true followers of Islam as they have deviated from the true path and try to mislead others to do the same.
In the past few years, there have been many terrorist attacks in various parts of the world, and much of the time, the finger is pointed at Muslims. Therefore, before I go any further, I would like to point out that there is no such thing as a Muslim terrorist!
Islam is an Arabic word which means Submission
, Surrender
, Obedience
. The word Islam
also means Peace
. Those who follow Islam are called Muslims
. Muslims are allowed to fight against an enemy to protect themselves and their country if they are under attack or are threatened. Terrorism in Islam does not exist! Terrorism is forbidden! Those who terrorize in the name of Islam are NOT Muslims. It is indeed unfortunate that these pseudo-Muslims are giving a
