    PROLOGUE

TH IS IS a story about the journey of a fifteen-year-old boy who traveled to a distant galaxy—alone! Being part of a military experiment as well as a scientific experiment, Brian discovered strength, courage, integrity, compassion, love, and, of course, a new world!

    CHAPTER 1

    THE BEGINNING

IN THE BEGINNING BEFORE time and space, there was an energy that existed indefinitely. It resided in the center of the universe and had a size no larger than an atom. It was one singular point surrounded by endless dark space at every angle. Suddenly with a big bang, light and energy exploded in all directions. The singular point remained at the center of the universe and shared only but a few of its unique properties. As the universe evolved, clouds of matter, stars, planets, and even whole galaxies were created but were not as powerful as the singular point. Light and energy continued to release from the singular point creating billions of galaxies that spun across countless light-years of infinite time and space.

As the universe became calmer and settled, the singular point ceased to release light and energy. It continued to remain there for billions of years. Eventually one particular galaxy of stars surrounded its well-being. We now know this galaxy as the Milky Way. Soon planets began to evolve at an enormous rate as huge rock formations collided throughout its illuminated swirl. Earth was then formed were the singular point continued to exist. Throughout time, the singular point became housed within a light blue haze of atmosphere, next to vast oceans and rocky plains. The singular point soon dimmed throughout millions of years as sunlight brightened the solar system.

As the Earth evolved from a primitive state to modern times, the singular point never left its position. The present day is now on the horizon. During this time, homes are being built and cities start to flourish on every continent, but one home in particular is quite special. It was built on the singular point. (Present Day), Brian, it’s time for school, Helen said with a soft tone as she spoke through her son’s door. Brian said, Mom, I’m sick. I don’t feel like going to school today. I think I’m running a fever. You’re running a fever? Helen replied with a concerned voice. Stay there I’m getting the thermometer, Helen said. Oh shoots, Brian said to himself. At that moment, Brian swallowed the hot tea that he put under his bed ten minutes prior to his mother waking up. You see, Brian didn’t like school very much; he only enjoyed his artwork and hanging out. Today he wanted to stay home and have a ditch party with some friends. Brian said to himself, Hope Mom falls for the plan. Can’t wait to see Sheila, whew hooo. Duup, duup, duup. Helen walked down the hall to his room with a thermometer in hand. She opened the door. Nurse Helen is in the house, she said. Brian then opened his mouth. With his buggy eyes wide open, he bit down slowly on the thermometer. Helen grabbed his cheek and looked directly into his eyes. With a concerned look on her face, she took the thermometer out and said, Hum, 101.2, looks like you’re staying home, kiddo. After that, Helen got up and headed toward the kitchen to prepare Brian some soup before starting her morning shift at Ocean Bay Memorial. Brian was lying on his bed contemplating his next move. He said quietly to himself, Yes… Mom is falling for the plan. As soon as she leaves, I will call Mike, Eric, Anthony, Roman, Junior, Susan, and Sheila. Ditch party will begin at 9:30 a.m… yes.

Without warning Brian heard his mother walking toward his bedroom, and at that moment, he decided to cover himself with the blanket. Helen walked in and said, Sweetie, I have some soup for you. Thanks, Mom, Brian said after coughing. Brian, I want you to drink all of it okay. I’ll call you at about 8:30. Okay, Mom, Brian said. Helen left the soup on one of the nightstands next to some of Brian’s artwork. You see, Brian is considered to be quite imaginative with a pen and pencil. Ever since he was a young boy at the age four, he had skills beyond belief. All of his family, friends, and teachers felt that he could be the next Michael Angelo. At about 7:27, Helen said good-bye to Brian and left for the day. Brian then got out of the bed and peeked out the window. Hee, hee, hee, she bought it, Brian said with a laugh. Brian knew that he had only about one hour before his mother would call. So he began to draw his favorites—bodybuilders. Man, I need to get this done before I call up the crew, he said.

Brian grabbed the phone and called up Mike. Ring, ring. Hello, this is Mike. Sup, dude. What’s the word? Are you guys still coming over? Brian said. Yea, man, hum, so I guess your mom fell for the plan? Mike said. Yea, she sure did, man. Mike, I need you to do me a favor, Brian said. Well, that depends on what it is, bro, Mike said. Mike, I need you to call up the crew for me. I have some artwork that I want to finish and show Sheila. I know she will love this one, since we both have a passion for art, Brian said happily. Show off! Anyway, dude, no problem I’ll pick up everybody, Mike said. And, Mike, don’t forget the beer, dude, Brian said with a sneaky tone in his voice. Dude, I got my brother’s ID. Nothing can stop me now, ha, ha, Mike laughed. All right, I’ll see you guys in about an hour, later, Brian said. At that moment, they both sat the phones down, and little did Mike know that would be the last time he heard his friend’s voice.

It was approaching 8:30 a.m. as Brian’s phone rang. It was Brian’s mother, as she promised to call and check on him. Meanwhile Brian got up from his workstation and glanced at the phone. He looked at the caller ID; it displayed Ocean Bay Memorial. He then answered it, Hi, Mom. Brian, how are you feeling? Did you drink all of your soup? Helen asked. Yes, Mom, I feel a little bit better thanks to you, Brian said sarcastically happy. For my little man anything. Brian, I have to make a stop at the grocery store and pick up dinner after work, okay? Okay, Brian answered. I need you to get some rest, and I will call you later, bye now, Helen said. Bye, Mom, love you, Brian said. Only if Helen knew that her son would soon be on a journey of a lifetime, literally.

The time has come for the singular point to complete its universal rotation. You see, every 2.5 million years, the singular point completes a universal rotation that takes place within the Milky Way galaxy. The time is now 9:00 a.m. Monday morning, and rotation is almost complete. It is now 9:02 a.m., and suddenly a surge of energy beamed from behind Brian’s closet door. It appeared as if light was piercing through the fine cracks of the wood. Suddenly, the entire planet experienced an unbelievable power wave, which temporarily paralyzed the electricity throughout the entire surface. Meanwhile at NASA, Chief Astrophysics Lance Carter was at the computer searching for celestial bodies in the Andromeda Galaxy. As he continued his search using the Lentoul Space Telescope at 12:02 a.m., he noticed a brightening of all stars in Andromeda, which is millions of light-years away. But to us here on planet Earth, the Andromeda Galaxy is our closest neighboring galaxy.

Lance Carter signaled to his colleague, Abigail Connors. Over here, take a look at this! Lance pointed at a visual image on his monitor.

Without hesitation, Abigail headed toward his direction. Abigail was a mere five feet two, thin, and not very striking at all. Being as brilliant as she was and graduating magna cum laude from Yale University, surely Lance had no problem having her by his side. Abby, after we experienced the power glitch, I noticed an unusual bright light in the Andromeda Galaxy. All the stars there seem to brighten momentarily. Like some sort of cataclysmic energy wave that past through. What do you think? Lance said. Without saying anything at first, Abigail pulled up a chair, sat down, nodded her head, and reversed the recording of the energy wave that hit Andromeda. Lance, she said, you’re right. According to your calculations here and here, the energy wave initially started at the center of Andromeda and soon expanded in all directions… amazing. Exactly, my calculations were correct. Being that Andromeda is about 2.5 million light-years from us, it’s going to take quite a while before the energy wave reaches Earth. But little did they know that the singular point big bang brightened a long time ago, which created everything that is around us—past, present, and future. The energy wave actually brightened all galaxies throughout the universe, but for some reason, Lance was searching for activity only in Andromeda at the time. Soon reports came in from all over the world about different occurrences in the universe.

Amateur stargazers, recognized astrophysicist, astronauts, scientist, astronomers, and so on. Numerous reports that hit NASA’s Astronomy Department were quite overwhelming. Even the director of NASA, Ethan Sterling, who was a decorated astronomer, was known to never give up on a challenge. Ethan realized that a breakthrough in the universe was about to happen, and he would need all the scientific help available. Suddenly Lance was paged over the loudspeaker from Ethan’s office. Lance Carter, Lance Carter, please report to my office immediately. Quickly Lance printed out his new findings on Andromeda, and with a quick step, he gradually ran to his director’s office.

Lance, have a seat. I need to discuss the matter at hand, Ethan said. Lance then sat down bearing a happy look on his face. Lance, reports are coming in from all over the world about cataclysmic energy surges throughout the universe. Lance interrupted Ethan and said, Yes, I know, they all originated in the center of each galaxy. Right… right…, Ethan replied. So tell me, what did you find out about Andromeda? Well, sir, with my calculations, it seemed to be a bright light of some sort that expanded in all directions near or at about the speed of light, Lance said.

Ethan got up from his desk and headed toward the window. As he looked out at the facility’s glass window, he turned and said to Lance, The Federal Bureau of Investigation contacted me ten minutes ago and stated that there was some unusual activity that occurred in Washington. What time did this incident occur, sir? Lance asked. It occurred at approximately 9:02 there, 12:02 our time here in DC, Ethan said. Ethan then revealed to Lance that the FBI was on their way to Washington to investigate further in the matter. Lance said, Sir, they’re on their way to Washington? Yes, Ethan answered quickly. The brightening of Andromeda was approximately the same type that occurred in Washington. So is it possible that 1172 East Lake Drive, Albion, Washington, is the center of our very own universe? Well, sir, throughout history and science, we always knew that somewhere in Washington was where the center of our universe started. But no one knew exactly where, Lance stated. Ethan smiled and said, Well, we do now, and by the way, Lance, do you get airsick? Lance didn’t reply; he just sat there holding his chin with his thumb and index finger.

Meanwhile back in Washington in Brian’s bedroom, Brian got up from his workstation and yarned. Aahhhhhh, man, I’m finally finished, he told himself. At that moment, his back was facing the closet door as he saw a beam of light from the corner of his eye. What the, he said as he winced, almost stumbling forward. Brian then turned around, and with certain fear and curiosity, he began to walk away from the closet door. Brian started to head toward the bedroom’s front door to leave. Brian grabbed the doorknob, and at that moment the entire house jerked like an 8.0 earthquake. Brian fell to the floor and sat there for a moment. As he stayed in place, the entire room and house began to outline with light at every corner, floor, roof, and windowsill. Brian got up and tried again to open his bedroom’s front door; no luck the door wouldn’t budge. Next he headed toward the telephone; he picked it up, no dial tone! Damn, Brian said out loud, what the heck is going on? Soon, a strange humming sound emitted from the inside of Brian’s closet door. As it got a louder Brian covered his ears to protect his hearing.

He noticed that the windowsill was outlined with light, but that didn’t stop him from picking up his chair. With one hand over his ear and one holding the chair, he swung it at the window. Crunch, the chair shattered into a few pieces not doing any damage to the window and sill. Brian soon realized that he was trapped!

Back at NASA in DC, Ethan, Lance, and Abigail were having a private session in the presentation room. They began to discuss their trip to Washington State. Ethan said, We’ll be boarding the Concord at 2:00 p.m. and heading straight to Albion, Washington. Is there any questions you two have for me? Abigail stood up, and without hesitation, she said, I need time to prepare all of the correct instruments so that I can take proper photos, energy samples, and, of course, my sleeping bag. Me too, Lance said. I feel that we’re going to be there for quite a while. Suddenly the presentation phone rang. Ring, ring. Ethan picked it up and said, Director Ethan Sterling here. Mr. Sterling, it’s Agent Mark Wilmoth from Virginia. We spoke earlier. Yes, Agent… what can you tell me? Is there any new information? Ethan said. You bet your butt there is. You need to get down here as soon as possible. You have got to see this, Agent Wilmoth said with an unbelievable tone in his voice. Presently on the other side of the United States, Ethan dropped the phone and informed his colleagues. We have to go… now!

Back in Albion, Washington, it was no secret that at 1172 East Lake Drive, unusual activity was occurring. The entire block was full of reporters, police officers, FBI agents, the fire department, and nosey neighbors. FBI Agent Wilmoth informed his partner Hank Porter. Hank, I just received feedback from the computer about the residents who live here. The mother, her name is Helen Rigg, and she’s currently at Ocean Bay Memorial working the day shift. She also has a son. His name is Brian Rigg, and he attends Dondeer High School, three blocks south of here, Agent Wilmoth said. As the two agents continued to converse, Brian’s friend Mike walked up to them and said to Agent Wilmoth, Sir, Brian’s inside of there. What did you say? Agent Wilmoth said. My friend Brian is inside of that house, Mike repeated. Hank, let him through, Wilmoth said. Agent Hank Porter lifted the yellow tape. Mike walked under the tape and looked back at his friends Junior, Roman, Sheila, Eric, Anthony, and Susan. Mike did a double take and looked at Sheila once again. He saw that her eyes were teary. Mike turned and walked with his head down toward Agent Wilmoth. As Wilmoth directed Mike away from the rest of the group, he began to hear Sheila cry. Agent Wilmoth grabbed Mike’s arm and said, What do you mean he’s still in the house? You kids are suppose to be in school? With a whimper in his voice, Oohhoot, Mike said to Agent Wilmoth, Sir, we were to have a ditch party with Brian today. Agent Wilmoth looked up to the clouds and said, My God, what has happened here! Next Agent Hank Porter tapped Wilmoth’s shoulder and said, Sir, we need to give this situation a priority level four now! I think you’re right, Wilmoth said. Hank, I need you to round up some agents and bring the boy’s mother here… immediately!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile back in Brian’s bedroom, Brian was sitting on the floor wondering how he was going to get out of the house. Brian got up and walked over to his window. He looked out; surprisingly Brian’s view was clear enough to see exactly what was going on around him. Brian noticed that his friends were present and acting strangely. Anthony and Susan were pointing at the house with their mouths wide open. Brian was thinking that they are pointing at him. Seeing that, Brian began to yell for help, but little did he know that they couldn’t hear or see him. Brian hammer punched the window many times, but no response from the outside world. Soon Brian was mentally worn-out trying to get the outside world’s attention, so he left the window and lay on his bed. Brian put his hands behind his head while looking up at the ceiling. Brian quietly said to himself, No one can hear me or see me; hopefully my friends told them I’m inside, and if they did, how will those police officers get me out! Brian stared at his closet door and began to wonder, Could it be that this door is the only way out?

Later that hour, Agent Hank Porter had just arrived at Ocean Bay Memorial. He walked through the automatic doors with three of his agents at his side. They stopped at the front desk and flashed their badges. FBI, Agent Porter stated with a most serious demeanor. We’re here for Helen Rigg… We understand that she is an employee here. We need to see her now, Agent Porter said. The receptionist at this point was quite concerned. She asked, What is this about? It’s about her son, Agent Porter said calmly. I can’t say anymore, just turn on the news… You’ll have a better understanding, miss.

The receptionist got up from her desk and escorted the FBI agents to the ICU, where Helen Rigg was currently working. The receptionist saw that Helen was in the isolation room so she waved her down to get her attention. She spoke to her through the glass door and said, FBI agents are here to see you, and it’s concerning your son Brian. Abruptly Helen stopped pushing meds into her patient’s IV and asked her coworker to take over the procedure. Helen then washed her hands and used a paper towel to open the door. Agent Porter flashed his badge at her and introduced himself. Ms. Helen Rigg? Yes, Helen answered. My name is Hank Porter, FBI agent from the Virginia branch. We have a situation concerning your son Brian. At that moment, Helen became quite nervous and teary eyed. She started to breathe heavily as Agent Porter asked her to come with him to the agency’s SUV. She agreed and started to follow the agents closely as they all exited the facility in a rapid manner.

As Agent Porter opened the door for Helen, he told her that she would know everything about what was going on. Helen sat in the backseat and looked at Agent Porter. Agent Porter said, There is a situation occurring at your home, and your son is trapped inside. Helen said, What do you mean he’s trapped inside? Is there a fire or something? Helen cried. No, Agent Porter said, it’s something that we can’t quite explain. What’s happening to my son, and why haven’t you guys gotten him out yet? Helen said frantically. Agent Porter grabbed Helen’s hand and began to tell her what happened. Helen, we have top scientist en route from Washington DC and from all over the world. They informed my superiors that an unknown energy source somehow inhabited your home. Not knowing exactly how it started or where it came from, we need as much help as possible. An unknown energy source, Helen said. Oh God, Brian stayed home from school. He was running a fever. Helen, Agent Porter said, it’s like your entire house is surrounded by some sort of light. Is Brian still alive? Helen said. I really don’t know. The police and our agency are having difficulty seeing through the windows of your home. Hopefully with the proper tools, the scientists should find a way once they arrive, Agent Porter said.

Later at about twenty thousand feet and approaching speeds close to mach 3, Ethan, Lance, and Abigail were studying their findings about the activity that occurred in Andromeda. Lance said to Abigail while Ethan was in the restroom, I’m sure that the energy waves Andromeda released were the same type of waves that were released in Washington. I’m quite certain of it. Abigail responded, You hit it right on the money, Lance. I need to calibrate my Energy Doppler so that I can take a precise sample of what type of energy we’re dealing with. Abigail then pulled out some sort of instrument as Lance looked on. Soon after, Ethan exited the rest room and stood beside them and said, Airsick. Lance and Abigail both smiled and then continued to study. Ring, ring. Ring. Ethan opened his flip phone, and not to his surprise, it was Agent Mark Wilmoth. Ethan, we have some more information about the situation. Go on, Ethan said quietly. Sir, the house is protected by some unknown energy waves, and we can’t see through the windows. And get this, there is a boy trapped inside. We assume he is in his bedroom. And how do you know that? Ethan said. Well, sir, his friends are present here saying that they were going to have a ditch party this morning, and I also received report from Agent Porter, stating that the mother said he is home ill. After hearing that from Agent Wilmoth, Ethan said, I will contact you in ten minutes, talk to you soon. After that, Ethan puts his cell phone into his front pocket. Ethan then decided to inform both Lance and Abigail that there was a boy possibly trapped in his bedroom.

Meanwhile, Agent Porter and Helen finally reached Albion Street. As the SUV made a right turn, Helen noticed her home from a distance, and what she saw made her cry. Helen couldn’t believe what she saw. It was like something out of the Twilight Zone. Helen was beautiful with reddish brown hair and a cleft chin. She stood about five feet nine inches tall. She has been told throughout her life that she has a smile that would make most men fall in love with her. Having a professional demeanor, Agent Porter couldn’t resist her beauty. He realized that Helen would definitely need some kind of moral support. Having a good heart himself, Agent Porter hugged Helen for moral support. Helen returned the hug and said, Thank you for everything. Brian is only fifteen years old, and he’s all alone in there.

Agent Porter, his agents, and Helen exited the vehicle. They remained at a safe distance as the entire house waved up and down with blue light. It was like an energy type waterfall scaling up and down the wood. Agent Wilmoth walked toward Agent Porter knowing that the woman could only be Helen Rigg. Wilmoth stood in front of Helen at a respectable distance and introduced himself. Helen Rigg, he said in a soft tone. Yes, Helen said. My name is Agent Mark Wilmoth, and I have been assigned to this job. Did you locate my son? Helen said shaking Agent Wilmoth’s hand softly. Not quite, but we believe that he’s in the bedroom. Helen, Agent Wilmoth said, we have some of the top scientist, astronomers, and astrophysics en route. When they arrive, we will be more prepared to handle the situation at hand. Helen… Helen, Brian’s friends yelled out as they all began to run toward her. Now that they were in a group hug, Helen said, Why are you kids out of school so early? With a happylike cry tone, Helen asked. Most of them looked down and didn’t say a word. Helen then said, I think I know the truth already. It’s written all over your faces. After that statement, Helen smiled disappointedly in a very sad way and then gave them a hug all over again.

Meanwhile in the house, Brian got up and walked to the window while peeking from the side of his eyes at the closet door. Once there he saw his mother hugging his friends. Brian said quietly to himself, Don’t worry, Mom, I’ll be okay… Love you! Brian was about five feet ten inches tall and quite handsome, with dark hair. Unlike his mother’s reddish brown hair, he inherited his looks from his father who died when he was only three. Brian never forgot his father’s death. Because of that, it inspired him to draw. He felt his artwork could change traumatic visuals in his mind into something positive for him and others to see.

Meanwhile in the Concord, Ethan, Lance, and Abigail finally landed at Washington State Airport. As they stepped down from the Concord, a limousine was waiting for them. An FBI agent was present waiting for them to enter limo. The agent opened the door, and Ethan and Lance took a seat, but not Abigail; she directed one of the porters to load all of her tools and instruments into the following three SUVs. She then took her seat next to Ethan. They all sat nervously, looking at each other. The driver of the limo was also an agent. Suddenly the middle tinted window rolled down. What was said was, Welcome and good evening. The three passengers responded by saying, Thank you, one after the other. The driver then said, I’m Agent Tansiel, and I’ll be your driver. Buckle up and enjoy the ride. After that, Lance said jokingly, Buckle up, we’re in a limo. I think I’ll stretch out and relax, Ethan said unbuttoning his pin-striped suit a little as the limo burnt rubber upon leaving the airport. Five miles from their destination, Ethan, Lance, and Abigail noticed pulses of blue energy surges moving upward toward the sky. Abigail then stated, Did you see that? Lance said, Sure did, it’s more spectacular than I could have ever imagined. This is something different and strange and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before, Ethan said moving closer to the side window.

When the three scientists arrived, the scene was so captivating that everyone within the area felt a sense of relief.

My God, Abigail said as she exited the limo. She immediately walked to one of the three SUVs and began to unload her tools and instruments. During this time, Lance was introducing himself to Agent Wilmoth and Helen. As they stood near the site, Ethan walked up to Agent Wilmoth. It’s been a long time, my friend. Yes, indeed, Ethan. They then embraced each other with a manly one-arm hug. I want you to meet someone, Wilmoth said. Wilmoth tapped Helen on the shoulder as she gazed away at her home sadly. Helen, this is Director Ethan Sterling of NASA, he and his team have brought the proper tools and instruments to scientifically find a way out for your son. Nice to finally meet you, Helen, Ethan said. I’m sorry that your son is trapped. We need you to be strong for your son. Okay, Helen nodded. Helen, the reason why the FBI and the police haven’t done anything yet is because we need to know what we are dealing with. We CANNOT have any casualties if someone or something touches those energy waves around your home… It could be deadly, Ethan said. Something, Helen said with a worried tone in her voice. Yes… if all else fails, we need to break the house into pieces without harming your son. We might have to use machinery, Ethan said seriously.

Abigail walked up to Helen and said, Hello, I’m Abigail Connors one of the scientists and astronomers assigned to this project. I will do everything that I can to get your son out. First, I must complete a series of test to understand what we’re dealing with. Next, I will use a Thermal Heat Source Locater to find your son’s body heat signatures. Then if everything goes well, we should be able to disable the energy waves flowing around your home. Thank you, Ms. Connors, and if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know… Well, since he’s my son in all. Yes, there is, actually I need you to help me unload 127 positive electric energy disablers. Once we’re done unloading, we will then set a perimeter around your home, Abigail said. "Enough said, let’s get to
