    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    GLOSSARY

The only Book that deals with the most complex

and terrifying global issues of the 21st Century

facing the mankind like population explosion

(9 6illion people by 2050), dwindling natural resources,

water and power shortages, terrorism, billions living in

    poverty around the world,

social unrest, nuclear proliferation and global warming

    etc. It provides the framework——

vision plan how to achieve lasting worldwide prosperity

    and peace—a safer world.

    Philosophy And Global Vision

    This book

is the result of my dreams and inner voice.

I have been charged with strong urge

    to write a book on

how to achieve worldwide prosperity and peace.

I offer this creation to my beloved

    Lord of the Universe.

    Philosophy and Global Vision

Our world is passing through the most

    dangerous, troubled, and chaotic

    times, with declining human values.

The vision and the ideals presented

herein will touch the hearts of

    Mankind, and inspire

    and guide Humanity to achieve

    worldwide prosperity and peace

    for future generations

    to come.

    Philosophy And Global Vision

    Desperation and Hope for

    Worldwide Prosperity and Peace

Dear brothers and sisters, daughters and sons of

    Good Earth:

Welcome to our interdependent and interconnected

world. It is a small world. We are on the Internet,

exploring numerous web sites for knowledge and

information. We have cellular phones, and we

travel, share services, goods, art, literature,

    science and technology.

We create new ideas and share the old ideas.

Innovation and creativity is opening up new and

better frontiers for the future generations and for us.

Our creativity is developing and unfolding new

things every moment and every day.

    Our creativity is limitless.

    This is our world.

We live in diversity and we are connected with each other.

    It is a global village.

    Philosophy And Global Vision

The future of the world belongs to our children.

This book prepares them to become better human beings living in a safe, prosperous and peaceful world.

The children of our world will be better equipped

when they are taught in schools and colleges

the ideals set forth in this book.

    Philosophy And Global Vision

Dear fellow Citizens of the World:

You are about to catch a glimpse of where we are in this world today.

Dear fellows, we find that some parts of the world are prosperous and somewhere in this world, people are struggling to barely survive. This is most perplexing and a mystery of our times. With all the knowledge and resources available why is this happening? In spite of all the best intentions, the world we live in is more divided and dangerous.

Today, we are facing a nuclear threat, terrorism, poverty, poor infrastructure, and lack of schools and health care facilities, shortage of water and electricity. HIV and other killer diseases are spreading at an alarming rate. It is said that about three billion out of six billion people live on less than two dollars a day. The dangers are compounding as the population is increasing and without having adequate business and employment opportunities. Human values are on the decline. We are setting the stage for a horrible future of humanity. People all over the world are unhappy and live in a scary world. People are frustrated and rebelling in many countries, and many governments are being overthrown. What a self-inflicted destruction to human beings we are doing to ourselves.

That day is not far when things will get out of hand and we reach a point of no return.

Dear Fellows, we are coming to the end of the road.

The future of the world is at risk.

    Philosophy And Global Vision

    Dear fellows:

There is hope. We are not talking about redistribution of

wealth. We are talking about creation of

wealth. We are blessed with intellect, creativity and

innovation. The world has the resources and the

know-how. We need a mechanism or system and means

to reach out to the citizens of the world.

We need to instill human values, compassion and tolerance and

    respect for diversity. Terrorism has

noplace in our interconnected and interdependent world. Nuclear

threat to mankind can be eliminated and must be eliminated.

    Worldwide Appeal

Dear fellow Citizens of the World:

My book, How to Achieve Worldwide Prosperity and Peace, provides a vision plan or the framework to make our world prosperous, safe and peaceful. Although, in this book the challenges and narrations are written primarily on India, the basic principles and ideals have a compelling and universal appeal. Once you have read this book, you will become hopeful that by working together, the world can become better and we can save this world from the unthinkable disaster in the making. It is probably the most possible viable vision plan for worldwide prosperity and peace.

I personally thank you for taking the time and for being concerned about our well being. I hope that you will be better informed about the world we live in today and hope for our future and our children’s future. If we do nothing, I am afraid that our future is bleak. It is our moral obligation for the survival of mankind to embrace the vision plans as outlined in my book.

Dear Fellows of our Beautiful Planet Earth:

A seed of hope has been planted. To bring worldwide prosperity and peace is a gigantic task but we can make it a reality. We do not have any other choice. Our survival is at stake.

The entire world is one family

Our world is a global village

    FOREWORD TO SECOND EDITION

I am pleased to present to the world a revised edition of this book. The original U.S.A. edition of this book was published in 2004. Our world is in turmoil and conditions are deteriorating rapidly. In fact the human race is headed towards self-destruction. This is not to paint a scary picture. The purpose is to present a comprehensive account of the challenges facing humanity, to awaken the world leaders and help the people see the realities of the converging dangerous trends, and to act responsibly.

Our world is facing profound challenges: population explosion (9 billion by 2050), dwindling natural resources, terrorism, nuclear proliferation, WMDs, deep divisions among people and nations, mistrust, hate, intolerance, killings, wars, manmade global financial meltdown, poverty, severe shortages of necessities, global warming, etc. These challenges are threatening the very survival of the human race. A nuclear Pakistan is struggling for its survival. As of this writing the Taliban is gaining strength and rapidly approaching Islamabad. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, It is a mortal threat to the world. Events in Pakistan and Afghanistan are overtaking Obama’s strategy of providing financial aid of billions of dollars. It is a serious blow to decades old US policy. I wish U.S.A. and world leaders had listened to my ideas.

People all over the world are yearning for peace. But they do not know where to go and what to do. United Nations and world governments cannot achieve world peace. This book provides concrete visionary plan to achieve world peace. I urge the readers to take the time to read this book from beginning to end. This book is written in a simple way that a common person can easily

understand. The basis for this book is love all and all human beings are equal.

We may be amazed to know that we are one people-the origin of all humans is from the continent of Africa! The book titled, Journey of Man-A Genetic Odyssey by Spencer Wells published by Princeton University Press, is a masterpiece genetic account of where we come from. This book scientifically and logically describes that around 60,000 years ago men numbered a few thousand and lived in the continent of Africa. Then something happened. They went to conquer the earth. Here we are, over 6 billion people around the world have originated from the content of Africa. Is that not amazing? Also, a DVD is available from PBS regarding this. This is another reason for us to cultivate tolerance as we all have a common genetic link.

We are facing a manmade global financial meltdown or tsunami. Many governments are in the midst of civil unrest. It is a manmade financial Tsunami. It is the result of greed and corruption originated from USA. Lives of millions or billions have been shattered. You can read about it in detail in the chapter, Human Race is headed for Self-destruction.

We are dealing with one of the most difficult, unprecedented and daunting subjects of how to achieve worldwide prosperity. It is becoming more and more critical—an absolute necessity. We have gone through horrible World War I & II and dropped two atom bombs on Japan, and created the United Nations for achieving world peace. Have we achieved peace? The answer is an emphatic NO. This subject of achieving world peace is eye popping and daring. For centuries, every person in authority has tried but the result is we are living in a scary world. The future of human beings on the planet Earth is in doubt. Albert Einstein the great scientist (1879-1955) said, Ido not know whatweapons World War III will be fought with, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. No more words can describe what Albert Einstein has said.

History is full of great leaders who have championed the cause of freedom for their nation, civil rights and many other worthy

causes. My mission is to achieve world peace. World peace has become more of a necessity now than ever before.

Indian history demonstrates a unique chemistry of virtuous tolerance and nonviolence for centuries. It is deep rooted in the culture of India with a population of over one billion people. This is the very reason I have chosen the core values of India as the beginning point for achieving world peace. It does not mean that other countries are not virtuous. All countries have many good qualities and generally people are great. However, I believe India offers the unique qualities for achieving world peace. To know more about India one can read the book of Michael Wood, The Story of India (also available on DVD). I hope that it convinces the doubters that India indeed has the virtues most suited for achieving world peace. I hope that readers, intellectuals and world leaders would not get mixed up with the enormous challenges India is facing but consider the virtues of unity in diversity that have been deep seated for thousands of years. People may differ with me but we all want peace. This is why I am attempting to present my ideas that can certainly contribute towards achieving world peace.

In my opinion, India is indeed the storehouse of the values for which we are searching. I am convinced that there is hardly any other choice except to embrace the core values of India for our own survival and for the cherished peace on the planet Earth. The philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi is great and we need to embrace it for our survival. Martin Luther King Jr. embraced Gandhi’s philosophy for the Civil Rights movement. As of January 20, 2009 Brack Obama, an Afro—American, is the President of USA. The dream of Martin Luther King Jr. is realized. History has been created. Although the book has been written about India and its challenges, the basic principles or fundamentals are the same—they are universal and apply to the entire world.

This book describes in detail the perils we face and provides a visionary plan for achieving prosperity not only for India, but also for all the developing nations, and above all addresses the big question ‘how to achieve worldwide prosperity and peace?’

While no major changes have been made to the original version of the book, three new chapters have been added to this revised edition. These are:

    1.    Chapter 25:Human race is headed towards self-destruction

    2.    Chapter 26: Mahatma Gandhi and World Peace

    3.    Chapter 27: India is the Gateway to World Peace.

These chapters provide additional valuable information for the reader to become fully knowledgeable and I hope he or she will spread the message to others. This book is a guide for the world leaders, the UN and all the people in the world. Awareness is the key to provide the momentum required for the desired directional change so as to prevent the disaster where mankind is potentially headed to. India, no doubt, is making commendable progress, but the challenges are too many to sustain the current high growth, to eradicate poverty and to spread prosperity evenly.

I am the recipient of several awards: 1. Glory of India award, 2. Bharat Gaurav Award 3. Jewell of India Award. Several eminent persons and organizations have also nominated me for the Nobel Peace Prize.

I am an International Circle member of the prestigious Los Angeles World Affairs Council where I have the opportunity to meet world leaders and experts and share my ideas. Recently I have met five European Ambassadors: Honorable Bob Pierce, British Consul General in Los Angeles; His Excellency Francisco Santos Caldron, Vice President of Colombia; Editor-in-Chief All4Syreia Bulletin; Brian Jenkins, Senior Advisor, The Rand Corporation; His Highness Sheikh Khalid Bin Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah (Northern Emirate of United Arab Emirates); Honorable Jorge Dezcallar, Ambassador of Spain to the United States; Honorable Warren Christopher, former Secretary of State of U.S.

I express my special thanks to all those who have supported me in variety of ways: Honorable Upendra J. Chivukula, Deputy Speaker of New Jersey State Assembly; Ramchandra Paswan, Lok

Sabha (Lower House) member, Government of India; eminent professor of Economics, Charan Wadhwa; my elder brother Dr. Satish C. Verma, former Professor at the Punjab University, Chandigarh; my brother-in-law Satish Mehtani, New Jersey; Vishwamitra Bharati, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, President World Religions Association and author of several books, India; Prakash Chandna, President KPM, India; and Dr. Ravindra Chauhan, Head of the Political Sciences, India.

On July 21, 2007, in London, I was honored with the ‘Glory of India Award’, in recognition of my contributions, by the India International Friendship Society (IIFS), New Delhi. I was honored with the Bharat Gaurav Award in January 2008 by IIFS. I owe my thanks to IIFS for considering me worthy of the coveted award. I consider this award for the people of India and for the cause of humanity worldwide.

I have established the International World Peace Foundation (IWPF) as global challenges are affecting all the people in all the nations and our planet earth. The establishment of a world peace foundation in sufficient size and scope is essential. Strong financial support is essential to spread the message for the benefit of the people worldwide.

I would appreciate your comments and suggestions sent by email to verma105@hotmail.com. Your comments are very valuable to me. Thank you.

    Overview

Why Does the Future of Developing Nations

Affect the Rest of the World?

This Book Shows a Revolutionary Plan towards Worldwide Peace and Prosperity

A groundbreaking book presents a concrete visionary plan that may yet help the world attain lasting peace and prosperity. Santos C. Verma, member of the prestigious Los Angeles World Affairs Council and United Nations Association-USA, covers the complex and most terrifying issues confronting our century. He tackles terrorism, corruption, poverty and social unrest head on, and presents a systemic plan that will bring developing nations and the rest of the world to peace and prosperity in his new book How To Achieve Worldwide Prosperity and Peace. Verma shows that in this important quest, the developed nations have a greater stake as well.

How To Achieve Worldwide Prosperity and Peace takes a comprehensive look at the author’s native country, India, and closely examines the challenges that have hindered its development over the years—overpopulation, corruption, extreme poverty, environmental degradation, epidemic of diseases, poor infrastructure, and haphazard urban and suburban growth. Verma not only looks at the present problem but also refers to past history to explain the roots of the issues and even anticipates future scenarios for India. The problems that India is saddled with serve as an urgent wake-up call, and Verma presents a vision plan that will address the country’s problems and point it to prosperity and peace. Verma also offers key essential principles and lessons from rich nations that India could benefit from.

Though the book uses India as a prototype, the issues discussed are not inherent to India but plague our world as well. Verma’s vision plan for India has a universal significance both for the entire world. The plight of poor countries affect richer nations, whether they may be neighbors or halfway around the globe. In a global village, the quest for lasting prosperity and peace becomes all the more urgent. Verma discusses the duality of mind and the role it plays in terrorism and international security.

I am fully aware that this is a monumental task to bring prosperity and peace in this chaotic and dangerous world but I am confident that it can be done before it is too late, says the author who has had extensive interaction with political leaders, scholars, economists, diplomats and legislators as a member of LAWC and UNA-USA, non-profit organizations that promote the understanding of current global issues. How To Achieve Worldwide Prosperity and Peace has garnered praises from the pillars of political power in India and the United States. This inspiring and thought-provoking work can also be a prime source for grassroots movements working for peace and prosperity around the globe.

    PREFACE FIRST EDITION

this book is based on the true heritage of India: Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, meaning all in the world be happy and prosperous, and Vasudhev Kutumbhkam, which means that the entire world is one family. This is the highest level toward which all humanity is yearning. India is the first country with these principles ingrained from the time of its original culture.

India has had a great tradition of tolerance and respect for various religions, cultures and ethnicities. Unity in democracy and secularism may be new to many countries, but India has it as a natural part of its heritage. It is the most pressing goal for U.N. (United Nations) in the 21st Century.

India was a prosperous country. After independence from the British rule in 1947, there was hope that India would again be a prosperous country and a beacon for world peace. The progress made was not enough to keep the pace with the population increase. Modern science and technology, financial and other systems in India did not keep pace with the times. In 1893, when Swami Vivekanand came to the USA for The World Religious Conference, held in Chicago, he said that India needed science and technology from the West. He was for universal brotherhood and sisterhood, and had the strong desire to eradicate poverty. He stressed eradicating poverty in this sense: What is the use of attaining Nirvana or building temples when so many people are poor in India?

These were the ideals that inspired me to explore the means by which India could once again be a prosperous nation. I studied, researched and meditated to find the answer to this most challenging, and daunting ambition. I prayed until finally my prayers were answered in the form of a Vision Plan. The answer is A System That Will Work. This book is not the economic model or expertise. Economic models can vary but if the systems to implement them are not effective, prosperity and stability cannot be achieved.

When I found the answer—a Vision Plan, a System, or a better way to make India a prosperous country—it was in tune with the true heritage of India. And this Vision Plan can be applied to many other developing countries. The whole world can become a better place in which to live. With the advent of technology, cyberspace, the Internet and web sites, the world has truly become a global village.

Once I had this well thought out Vision Plan, I began to contact various people and write letters and articles. Soon, I learned that there was a need to write this book. It became obvious that I should consider the articles and letters as part of the book. The letters provide the smooth and natural expression of thought. Therefore, you will find many chapters based on articles and letters. In my opinion, this will help you to better understand the issues and challenges faced by India and other developing nations, and the solution provided in the form of the Vision Plan that will inspire the leadership and the people of India to embark upon the path to prosperity.

As I began to study and envision the challenges that India is facing, and the need for a new system to achieve prosperity and peace, I visualized that many other developing countries, or less developed countries, are facing the similar challenges.

This book would serve an excellent resource for many developing countries to eradicate poverty, create adequate business and employment opportunities and ultimately become prosperous. The developed countries have a stake for our world to be prosperous, safe and peaceful.

The political world and socio-economic climate are changing for the worst. We find that declining human values, corruption and corporate scandals, terrorism, and religious extremism is on the rise. Nuclear threats, killer diseases like HIV, STDs and other diseases are spreading. In many countries, poverty, lack of education, shortage of electricity and safe drinking water and malnutrition continues to remind us that much more needs to be done. A new world order is needed. A chapter on the role U.N. play in the 21st Century is included for the work to be done by this body in order to avoid catastrophic consequences.

In closing, I would like to say that our world’s social, economic and political landscape is constantly changing. Please keep in perspective that the time between the preparation of the manuscript, and its publication and distribution, many changes in world affairs could take place. Please remain focused on the significant issues facing our world and my thoughtful contribution on world affairs including timely correspondence with influential people and world leaders knocking on their doors. For example, the Kashmir problem has been a thorny issue between India and Pakistan. As a result of an historic meeting between Atal Behari Vajpayee, Prime Minister of India and General Pervez Musharraf, President of Pakistan during the SAARC (Southern Asian Association of Regional Co-operation) meeting in January 2004 in Islamabad, it is possible that a peaceful solution and good neighborly relations between the two countries would emerge. Both leaders deserve credit as it would be victory for the people of India and Pakistan, and a great contribution for world peace.

India has made a remarkable history on May 13, 2004, the day of parliamentry election results. The ruling BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) lost and INC (Indian National Congress) received the lead majority. However, Sonia Gandhi ji instrumental in bringing INC to victory declined the prime ministership, the highest powerful office of India—a great honor. Her renunciation and not being power hungry after the victory has set an example of sacrifice for the world. Sonia Gandhi ji, a foreign-born has won the hearts and earned the respect of millions of people in India and around the world. Equally worth mentioning is that her son Rahul denied any minister portfolio in the government. Instead, he chose to work for and to build from grassroots INC. The Indian democracy has shown exemplary resilience, maturity and magnanimity. Sonia Gandhi selected Dr. Manmohan Singh, a noble and brilliant economist who was responsible for the economic reforms in the nineties. However, the challenges India is faced with are monumental, my Vision Plan is certainly a better way or the surest way to bring prosperity to the people of India and similarly to the other developing nations.

Also, we have witnessed a most disgusting abuse of the prisoners by American soldiers in Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. However, wisdom dictates that the disgraceful acts of a few bad apples will not diminish the values and virtues of America. USA transfer of power to Iraqi people on June 28, 2004 was a step in the right direction but it is a long way to go. The internal divisions, power politics and the fundamentalists infighting would be horrible. The world is hoping for the emergence of a stable and democratic country ultimately.

The horrifying plight of Sudanese people is another human tragedy and U.N. finds helpless to stop the genocide of the innocent people.

The wide gulf between the rich and poor is the major cause of unrest in Venezuela that is reflected in the recall elections of President Hugo Chavez in August 2004. People want change but the change is not bringing prosperity to the people. This is because there may be sincerity on the part of the leaders but lack a right Vision and implementation process. This you will find in this book.

United States of America, other democratic and prosperous nations have a lot at stake. The future of world is at risk. Poverty, hunger, spread of killer diseases around the world, rise of religious fundamentalism, proliferation of nuclear technology and unstable nations, and wide spread corruption, etc. are making our world divided, dangerous and unsafe. It seems that we human beings have not learned any lessons from the most destructive and horrifying World War II. The survival of mankind is in question. Again U.N. is becoming helpless more and more. The world has to find ways to live and let live for the benefit of all human beings. You will find the answers in this book.

No matter how some problems get resolved, the fact that our world is more divided and terrorists’ threats are real. Without prosperity and world peace the future of mankind is at risk. Despite the fact that world affairs do change, the principle issues facing us will remain with us for a very long time. In this book, I have made an attempt to present the major challenges facing our world and how to bring prosperity and world peace. This is the main purpose of this book.

I am always available to answer any questions, as they are the natural phenomenon of this sacred and challenging task of building India, making people’s lives better and eradicating poverty. Then, and only then, will communal harmony and peace prevail. Once again, India will become a source of world peace and fulfill its true purpose or true nature; that of Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah and „Vasudhev Kutumbhkam."

Thank you and God bless you.

and national debt will reach 100% of GDP The dark clouds on India’s future are on the horizon.

    4.    Swami Vivekananda Ji came to the USA in 1893 to attend the world religious conference in Chicago. He was extremely impressed with the USA’s modernization and prosperity.

    5.    Swami Ji said, India needs science and technology from the West. He further propagated that building temples and striving for Moksha or Nirvana was meaningless when there was so much poverty and hunger in India. His words are still true in our time and age.
