    PREFACE

I am a fifty-two year old Haitian male raised in the United States since the age of twelve, and very concern about my homeland Haiti. I consider myself a good person and am certain of the fact that you also qualify as such. But I was so far from God, I would have been eternally lost were it not for His grace. On a glorious Saturday afternoon I made the choice to accept Christ. Since that day, I am being transformed as the Holy Spirit chips away at my old self. He has changed me and opened my eyes to the truth. God grants us everlasting mercy by leaving the door ajar for each of us willing to accept the truth.

    That truth is Jesus Christ.

Let’s not be followers of Adam, disobedient and self-centered. Instead, let us choose to become followers of Christ, because that’s what it will take for Haiti to be delivered. Until the day all Haitians can love one another; we will not be able to change our current condition.

I use to view Haiti’s situation as hopeless; but it has been revealed to me that with God, all things are possible. I love Haiti and want my homeland to experience the gentleness and the giving nature of our God. The only way for us to overcome our present circumstances is by surrendering to God’s will. Only at the cross can we break the generational curses from our past which keeps us from enjoying God’s best.

As you can tell from my writing, I am a born again Christian. This does not mean I am better than you, nor am I being self-righteous. Brothers and sisters! I ask you to keep an open mind; no, I implore you to overlook the writer of these words. For I assure you, this is not my inspiration. It is God who deserves all the glory as it was in the beginning, as it is now, and will be forever.

     "

    A MOTHER’S LABORING REFLECTIONS"

I have been free and independent since 1804. To the forefathers, I will be forever grateful. Men like Jean Jacques Dessalines, Toussaint L’ouverture, Alexandre Petion, Boiront Tonnerre, Capois L’amort, and many others. I am so proud to have given birth to such brave children, because while the rest of the world was being devastated by the ungodly practice of slavery, I was freed from tyranny by the valiant efforts of my sons and daughters. This was not easy. They fought for decades and realized that it would be better to die rather then be treated as sub-human. While in many parts of the world black men were being sold like cattle. Enchained and bounded, sometimes tortured so badly, a man’s flesh would be ripped to shreds by another human being’s evil nature. My children, who were born free, realized that it was ungodly to succumb to such cruelty. Women being separated from their children and sold as property! Raped, tortured and murdered at the slightest sign of defiance. Not even our children were spared. It became clear in order to save me they would rather risk extinction. Indeed, rather than to endure such an existence, they chose L’iberte ou la mort, Liberty or death. They staged a revolt, and by the grace of God successfully became the first black nation to have abolished slavery. The century that followed I watched as they struggle with the toils of life, but did so, free an independent.

The early nineteen hundreds were difficult, but I still endured.

My children still possessed strength, but continued to struggle because of their failure, or inability to recognize their freedom was not earned, but was a gift from God. In the mid nineteen-hundreds I was still a proud mother, because they took good care of me; I was so beautiful the International Community named me La Perle Des Antilles, The Pearl of the Antilles.

The Creator bestowed upon me such natural beauty. Foliage so green and vivid the heavens could not help but smile at God’s wonderment. The air, so crisp and clean; the elders of my children were able to enjoy misty evenings by camp-fire, where they shared folklore from their precious motherland Africa. My waters-ways were so clean, there was an abundance of fish life, and my creator made it so that I could feed entire villages with my natural resources. At night, God’s beauty was manifested by the moon, no need for light, because the glare from the stars and the moon illuminated my entire body.

Coming into the 20th century is as if I had been in a coma and the late 1900’s passed me by. I have now awakened and find myself in such pain. I hurt deeply when I realize the degree of dysfunction my family finds itself. My children are not
