Safe Energy Forever - David S. Halbert MD
INTRODUCTION: Clean Energy from Dirt Get ready to be amazed.
Everyone knows that a large portion of the world has no electricity or pure water.
If there was anything that we could do to bring people out of poverty it would be to provide electricity that is affordable and plentiful pure water. Millions even have only animal dung to use for heat.
Welcome to one of the most incredible stories of energy production in history. All of what you are about to read is true and easily verifiable and the implications are staggering!
In the world of atomic physics, there has been a recent re- discovery of a method to safely produce plentiful, clean energy in a way that is completely different from our present nuclear reactors, all at a price that the average person in the world can afford with no carbon dioxide (CO2) production.
If energy is available but too expensive, it still is unavailable and changes nothing. For this reason, we all need to know about this unbelievable technology that can change everything.
We all know that atomic energy was initially developed to produce devastating bombs. To produce useful energy the process was modified by slowing down the reaction.
In our present reactors, control rods slow the reaction and water is circulated to cool. The process is very inefficient as only 3-5% of the solid uranium fuel is consumed; some of the rest converts to highly radioactive waste. Storage of the waste causes another difficult problem.
Only using 3% of the fuel in reactors would be like getting ½ mile to the gallon of gasoline in your car.
We are also aware that present reactors, called pressurized water reactors, can produce harmful radiation under some circumstances.
Our world can have energy forever with almost no risk and for a price everyone in the world can afford. Let me explain this by first talking about our present nuclear reactors.
There are about 500 nuclear power plants worldwide of which 100 are in the U.S. They have done a good job of making electricity, since they make about 11% of all the energy in the world.i However, the technology is 60 years old and the reactors can only do one thing: make electricity. How would you like to drive a car that was designed 60 years ago without power steering?
Most of us know that one of the biggest problems with our present reactors is that some of the waste must be isolated for more than a thousand years before it decays to safe levels.
Another problem with our present reactors is the danger of explosion from the pressurized steam, or runaway reaction, if the water coolant system fails. Since these reactors run at very high pressure up to about 150 times the normal pressure of our atmosphere, the steam they produce under pressure wants to get out. This is why they are in concrete buildings, which costs millions of dollars to build, to prevent pressurized steam from escaping.
These concrete walls serve the same function as a pressure cooker, which holds steam inside the pot. Do you remember what happens when you open a pressure cooker before the steam is gone or if pressure builds too high inside the pot? A relief valve pops off, allowing the contents of the pot to escape. This creates a huge mess in the kitchen.
Just as accidents can happen in the kitchen, they can also happen in nuclear power plants, either because of human error, nature or terrorists.
Here’s where the story really gets good! An incredible discovery over 60 years ago proved that atomic energy could be produced in a different way that avoids the worst aspects of present reactors.
This newly rediscovered process uses liquid fuel molten salt, thus avoiding high-pressure steam produced by present reactors. It is far more efficient in terms of fuel consumption, and there’s very little radioactive waste. It also runs without any pressure, which makes it amazing.
