Foreword
Having moved to Canada in 1999 with seventeen years of experience in architectural design, I started to study Interior Design which was one of the closest subjects to my background and a favorite field of mine. Taking many courses in BCIT (British Colombia Institute of Technology) gave me the confidence to start my own small business (St. Georges Interior) in Vancouver. Later I had the opportunity to start working as an instructor with Choices Décor group,
teaching two different courses. Space planning was one of them. I started to search for more resources, to study, to take notes, and to have my own manuscript for my teaching career. The idea of arranging this book started back then.
Couple of years later I realized no matter how experienced you are, it is necessary to have a diploma from one of the accredited schools in Canada. That is how I obtained my IDDP (International Design and Decorating professional) Diploma from QC school of design.
In early 2010, my husband and I moved to Calgary, and that is when I started to work on this book based on all the experiences gained from teachers and students, study, and practicing.

Chapter 1
Space Planning
Why Space Planning?
The word efficient
means to work or operate quickly and effectively in an organized way.
Efficiency means that both time and energy are used well, without wasting any.
Efficiency is a word applied to just about everything designed to use whether a car a dishwasher or a space.
Lack of an efficient organization for home interiors will create a haphazard, nonfunctional space. As a result, the defined function of the space is not achievable through the existing organization or design.
That is why interior designers are increasingly using the popular word efficient
to describe proper furniture arrangement. I believe space planning, as some people think, is not just furniture arrangement. The way we organize things in any space is called space planning, and even when you organize items in a single drawer, in fact you are entering the act of space planning for that particular space which in this example is the small inside space of a drawer.
The most efficient and functional home interior is achievable when all spaces from a single kitchen drawer to the biggest room are organized by using the principle of space planning.
It is understandable why without spatial consideration and keeping all the rules in mind, a few beautiful pieces of furniture can’t create a wonderful interior
