Piercing the void—the nothing, the darkness—a light, glowing soft tones of red—pulsing, insisting—strobed from behind an unobtrusive nothingness, a slit in the fabric of the universe, where more often there was only inky black, millions of miles of it. And in this light, the only brightness there is, is nothing, nothing but impossible-to-tether, uncontainable Essence. It travelled but moved not, it existed but rode the shaft of brilliance without being noticed. Essence in itself looks like the ever-present lack of something, for it cannot be seen, except by its ripple, its almost unseen glow, but it is most certainly there. It is what makes all humans into who they will be. It is the anything which makes them one way or another. It is what we are—Essence.

Chapter One
Inside the mind of humanity
Twenty-four people died that I know of, just in our neighborhood, and I can only guess that the others fled with whatever they could carry. I could hear the screams and the shooting, cursing and shouting, all night long, and I dared not venture out from where I hid. I am no coward, I just knew what I was up against.
The townspeople were left wherever they died and one or two prominent leaders were left hanging from their necks in front of the town hall.
Madness seemed to come in waves, taking over the minds and bodies of our very own friends and neighbors. No one could be trusted. Their brains seemed to be controlled—their limbs, an extension of whatever was inside of them—making them behave like crazed, rabid animals on psychological benders.
Fuelled by whatever substance they could get their hands on, the people we once knew became our enemies. Faces we once loved became distorted and evil, and they began their wicked stalking and killing, told what to do by unseen dictators and shockingly violent demands.
We—just a few of us—waited and watched lest they should come for us, but we somehow managed to remain un-found. I still can hear them, although the immediate threat is gone and people are behaving coherently again. I can barely stand the sight of them, for I know what they have only just done, even though they have no memory of it.
The evidence was swept away, but my mind is still defiled by the sights. I will never be able to forget, even though those who performed the dark evil deeds cannot remember.
I am afraid to speak of it, for others do not believe, but there are a small group of us who still do. We know what happened and we know it came from inside their minds. We shall remain diligent, for they shall act again.
We shall wait and worry for inside the subconscious mind of many lies a danger greater than what we have ever seen. It is dormant for now, but we see it rear its ugly head from time to time, all across the city. We are in trouble, all of us, for who knows how many are owned by this lurking thing inside. Who knows when the sleeping giants, inside the minds of thousands, will leap into action and destroy New York, even the whole world?
We must find a way to stop them from taking over each and every one of our thoughts. We must guard our minds, our subconscious and consciousness, our dreams, and our waking moments. It is fair to say they are out there
but the great fear is that they are inside.
Beware your mind—there is a demon waiting to awake.

Popular belief—and a quick scan of the internet—will tell you many things about what is referred to as the conscious, subconscious, and the unconscious mind. The need to understand the mystery of the human mind has held generations of men captive in labs and testing facilities—the in-depth study of psychiatric patients and an ever-widening hope that the long-sought freedom and enjoyment of life is to be found therein.
The information you may find there is not necessarily wrong, but also is not all-encompassing or complete, as you will learn by reading these very volumes. These inaugural works hold the stories, wisdom, and experiences of the Essence Legacy.
It would appear that the study of the unseen force within the human brain is widespread, though difficult to truly comprehend, and, for the most part, impossible for humans to fathom without our help. It may seem, with all the things you have discovered, that any addition would just be another belief system within an ocean of ideas, but we, unlike any other, hold the actual answer. We are not conversing with you to confuse, but to offer you what we, the Essence, know is real.
The desire to control the subconscious is growing, and in this desire resides the true mystery and underlying dream for many. The hope to bridle and own your own mind is enviable at least, and there are many who offer theories and studies of good report.
In order to begin, you need to understand the differences among the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious as well as the functions of each. The following is a short compilation of ideas in order to explain what many learned human beings believe, but certainly not all there is to know.
In our writing, we are about to open the eyes of humans, give more insight than you ever have dreamed, frighten you with the whole truth—a truth you may not enjoy—and help you understand the age-old mystery of the mind. We will encase these truths within the true-life stories of some who have experienced it all, but first, some less-interesting scientific discoveries as background.

The subconscious mind is a composite of everything one sees and hears as well as any other information it collects that cannot otherwise consciously be processed or made sense of. The conscious mind cannot always absorb everything, as it would cause an information overload, so the subconscious mind stores this information where it can be retrieved by the conscious mind whenever it is needed. It stores the information for later retrieval when recalled
by the conscious mind.
The subconscious and unconscious mind hold all of your previous life experiences, your beliefs, your memories, your skills, situations you’ve been through, and all the visions you’ve ever seen. Inside of your brain is everything. Usually you cannot grasp it all at once, but it is there and can be recalled.
The subconscious mind consists of accessible information. You can become aware of this information once you direct your attention to it. Think of this as memory recall. You walk down the street to your house without consciously needing to be aware of your surroundings. You can talk on the cell phone, while you walk home, and still arrive home safely. Although you don’t need to, in order to get to your destination, you can easily bring to consciousness the subconscious information about the path home. You could, if you needed to, describe the exact route to another, but you, yourself, don’t have to in order to get there.
The unconscious mind consists of the primitive, instinctual wishes as well as the information that we cannot access without concerted effort. Although our behaviours might indicate the unconscious forces that drive them, we don’t have easy access to the information stored in the unconscious mind. During our childhood, we acquired countless memories and experiences that formed who we are today. However, we cannot recall most of those memories. They are the unconscious forces that drive our behaviours.
It is possible that some of what might be perceived to be unconscious becomes subconscious, and then conscious; for example, a long-forgotten childhood memory suddenly emerges after many years, and all of a sudden it becomes clear again. Unconscious memories generally need a strong, specific trigger or mind manipulation to bring them to consciousness; whereas, a subconscious memory can be brought to consciousness very easily.
The conscious mind is responsible for logic, calculations, and all actions that are performed while you are conscious, while the subconscious mind goes along its way controlling other functions in your body, like breathing and heart beating.
Another good example that can help you better understand the subconscious mind is the process of breathing. Before you started reading the previous line, your breathing was controlled by your subconscious. Now, try and control your breathing for a minute. This should not be a problem for you. This time it was the conscious mind that was controlling your breathing, but when you let go of your focus on each breath, your subconscious mind will take over again.
Walking down the street, or breathing without consciously thinking about it, is something stored into your subconscious like a computer program that can be run whenever you need it. The same goes for many other activities and emotions. If someone annoyed you, the installed program of anger is going to be launched, and the result will be a behaviour that you may regret later if you have no control over it.
The conscious and the subconscious mind can make a great team if you use them together. The first—the conscious—can handle some tasks, then assign them to the second—the subconscious—while the second can send feedback and messages about the task in the form of emotions to the first, with the unconscious mind chiming in to store what is not needed behind the scenes.

It sounds like a good system, and it’s completely plausible, but there is more. You think you have it all worked out, but life is not as clear-cut as you may think. All is not as black and white as a scientific or psychiatric discovery.
There are many things, as human beings, that you do not know. There are other forces at work in your everyday world that you do not see. Many have caught glimpses of the more of which we speak. Many have felt what is often thought of as being a little bit psychic or having a sixth sense. We want to clear up some of your misunderstandings and incomplete realizations. So, in trying to be of assistance, we will provide some for instances
for you. We’re sure you’ll recognize most of them, for these are normal experiences. You are being watched, you are being assisted in your thoughts, you are not alone, ever…
Have you ever felt like you’re being watched, like there are eyes upon you, sometimes piercing through you, like someone else is there, but you can’t put your finger on why, who, or where?
Does your entire body tingle with the knowing, with the skin-crawling feeling that there is something not quite right? Do you call this feeling intuition, while searching in vain for the one who watches?
Do you ever find yourself thinking thoughts which don’t seem to be entirely your own? Maybe you have had an exceptional idea just pop into your mind and you have no idea how you came up with it, or a mind-blowing realization of something you had always wondered about.
Do you ever drop in and out of daydreams, in and out of conscious thought?
Do you feel like someone or something else controls how you feel, that sometimes you are tossed about by waves of almost uncontrollable emotion?
And do you ever find yourself neck-deep in feelings of despair, negativity, and misery with no idea why?
Do you ever feel lost and in turmoil, confused and afraid? Do these feelings force you to behave in ways that you would normally never even consider?
What does it mean when your life feels like it’s not entirely your own and is just what is it that makes you who you are?
Finally, you have stumbled upon the manuscript of insight! Inside these volumes of wisdom are the answers.
Some of us feel that you deserve to be told. Some do not; therefore, we have conflict, but you need not worry about that.
Not all humans will be able to grasp the concept we are offering. Not all will enjoy the knowing. Many will refuse to believe and others will not be intelligent enough to fathom the implications. Some will choose to ignore the truth and some may recoil in fear and revulsion at our very existence.
The reason we tell you is that it is imperative you know something about us. You deserve at least a fighting chance against what is to come.
A wave of evil is upon us. A ripple of murderous intent is spreading across the outer limits of the universe. Danger is brewing as evil Essence increases. Crime is rife and destruction is common. Anarchy takes hold when Essence is thwarted. Extinction is in the air.
A time is coming when you may need this information, these stories and revelations, just to survive.
Hopefully the knowledge within these pages will not prove too detrimental to your kind. Hopefully it is not too late for you to be helped!

The roar of gunshots thundered across four boroughs early in the morning in what would turn out to be a spate of bullet-laden violence that left at least two people dead and seven people wounded as the weekend sputtered to a bloody and dreadful close.
Investigators were quoted as stating the shootings seemed like a madness, something evil, that had taken over the city for a few hours that morning.
The morning mayhem began shortly after two, when a man was shot in the leg. Emergency responders rushed the shooting victim to the nearest hospital, where he was in stable condition. His shooter had not been arrested, police said.
The next bullet found its mark near a well-known college in the Bronx, where a man was shot in the torso at around 3:30 a.m. That man was rushed to the local medical center in stable condition. His shooter was still on the loose, police said.
At nearly the same time, close by, another man was shot. He was in stable condition while police hunted for the shooter.
Back in the Bronx, a man took a slug to the torso at about four o’clock. He went to a medical center, where he refused to cooperate with police, authorities said. No arrests were made.
The bloodshed turned deadly just 10 minutes later in Brooklyn when a 30-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man were both shot. The shooting came after a shutdown block party, residents of the street said.
Emergency responders rushed the two victims to County Hospital, where the woman died from a single gunshot to the chest. The man, who had sustained several gunshots to the body, was in critical condition, police said.
I heard at least seven shots,
said a 40-year-old resident of the street. There was one burst, a pause, then more shots… there was a block party earlier but police shut it down. These things sometimes turn violent but I didn’t think anyone was still on the street, but they must have been.
Police have made no arrests and a motive was not immediately clear.
An unknown gunman pulled the trigger in another neighborhood, hitting a man in the leg at approximately 6:00 a.m. police said. This victim was in stable condition.
Minutes later a man was shot in the head in a neighborhood of Staten Island. That man was brought to Staten Island Hospital in critical condition. His shooter was still at large, police said.
Almost exactly an hour later within the boundaries of the same NYPD precinct, a 40-year-old man was shot in the head. He was rushed to the same hospital, but he could not be saved. Police did not immediately have a suspect for the grisly crime, but said they believed it to be unrelated to the previous shooting. Police were investigating all incidents.

Chapter Two
Two; Now Four; Now Five
Christmas is being celebrated in most parts of the planet Earth. Green and gold, glittery, sparkling and shiny, Earth is dotted by lights and sleighs full of toys. Baked ham and turkey, basted vegetables served in finery, all with eggnog and sweetened delights.
Christmas is a time where you endear yourselves to others with the giving of gifts and the subsequent hope that you are touching hearts. It is a time when people remember the stories of old, of a baby who changed the world two thousand years ago, of a time which tells them of peace and gives them some hope.
Christmas, for the most part, brings out the best in humans. You may smile more, be more tolerant, give a little extra of your time and talents to those in need, and you will usually spend more money than you should on prettily wrapped gifts and ornately dressed conifers. It is a time of tactile enjoyment, joining with family and friends and partaking in the bounty of beautiful delicacies for the taste buds. Glittered ornaments and tinsel cover the city landscapes, trees are adorned in bright twinkling bulbs, and choirs sing of a time when love was new, when joy was real, and all was well with the souls of men.
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, New York—the city where our story begins—transforms into a magical wonderland. Christmas trees are lit, department stores deck their windows with fairy lights, and visitors and locals alike strap on their skates and hit the ice in Rockefeller Center. Temperatures may be low, but a cosy feeling that you know as holiday cheer, blankets the entire city.
Everything shimmers and becomes a winter wonderland during the holidays. Snow carpets the streets of Manhattan; crowds adore the exquisite Christmas window displays along Fifth Avenue; ice skaters glide across the Rockefeller Center Skating Rink as the massive Christmas tree glows beneath the New York skyline.
No doubt that it’s cold, but there’s plenty to do to get warm: ice skating in Rockefeller Center, watching the snow glisten in Central Park, maybe with a blanket, because the chilly weather conditions range from the low-30s to the mid-40s. There’s plenty of fun things to do both indoors and outdoors during the holiday season. One of the best Christmas events that has remained a tradition for nearly eighty years is the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony which takes place the week after Thanksgiving. A giant spruce, seventy- to ninety-feet high is illuminated in Rockefeller Center with live performances to kick off the holiday season. All is bright and cheer abounds; you can’t help but feel the Christmas glow. Hearts are warm, fireplaces warmer, and laughter and music fill the air.
Into this world—a world celebrating the season of joy—a baby is born. Not the baby from the carollers music, for that was many lifetimes ago, but a brand new child who, as yet, has received no inner-dweller. She waited and will not take her first breath outside of her mothers’ comfortable womb until her Essence—her life force, her inner self—arrives to give her everything else she needs. She has a body: two arms, two legs, ten fingers and toes, all her physical attributes, but she is nothing inside until there is Essence within. For this alone she waits.
***
Watchers, beware this Holiday Season. We, who know, remain diligent, for it is under the guise of beauty and benevolence that a mind controlled by evil lies. Do not let down your guard. We hear the rumble, we see the results in mayhem and crime, as they who want to own us all appear in small pockets of our city. Their intent is to enslave us and to make us do their bidding. Their hope is that in time we shall all have one of them inside of our brain-space, and that they will rule the world through us. Do not succumb to it. Do not become complacent. Do not be beguiled by the sweetness they portray now, as there is nothing but unrelenting fear in the future. Sleep, but with one eye open to the minds of
