Hello and I trust you enjoyed my book. I try to write as passionate as I feel towards life. This is my first attempt at creating my view of life into words. To me life is rich with what comes out of a persons personal actions. A person illustrates to others what you harbor inside. I feel that we are all put on this earth to discover greatness, great love! To take with us into heaven the richness of everything we see and discover. So I try to do as many things, as humanly possible, to do just that - live life to its fullest. Only I have been told time and time again that I wear my heart on my sleeve. Often times I make myself late trying to help someone. An artist at heart, and extremely talented with my mind and hands, only my inner feelings so outdo my outward way in life. Animals and people mean more to me than just a name or a face. Each person is unique and has a story to tell. To watch and listen is always a treat. I could not wait to be a father and prize my children. My family was not well off, yet they showed wealth in their actions and how we interacted with each other. This makes us rich! Only motorcycles and racing has always been a passion of mine. Also to find that one true lady who I feel that God wants me to know. To meet this lady will pave the road for everyone to follow. This was also illustrated in this book. Only my next attempt will be even better. This will only be one of many books that I wish to publish. I am interested in what you as the reader may feel by reading my book and the next book will be made possible through your interest in Angel Boy. Enjoy the journey of such a rich young man who grew up and became something greater by never giving up! I have found great love, oh yes! I have found great and wonderful ladies. Life has only just begun for all of us!

    Angel Boy Enters Life

Back in 1960, a boy was born to a family that lived on the bay front of Galveston Bay. In a little town called San Leon, Texas. The town was mainly home to only summer people who enjoyed the Island, as they called it.

A channel cut the body of land apart from the mainland. The time was fun, wearing only cutoff jeans. Spending the majority of the time beachcombing. Most days this boy, Angel Boy, would play under his mother’s baby grand piano. The home was built on several acres of land that looked east across the bay. At night, the fireflies were gathered and put into a jar. Many nights were spent sleeping in the hallway during the hot summer months. Air-conditioning was not something most homes had back then. The sandpile was the main entertainment at this time. Big metal Tonka toys, here he made towns and lived in an imaginary world. Fishing and swimming was also fun. Telling stories about Jean Lafitte’s treasure! Always searching for this famous sailor’s gold. At night, after he was forced to come in, Angel Boy and his two brothers watched Star Trek or Sea Hunt. The time then was slow and sweet.

Angel Boy’s father worked at a refinery in Texas City for years. Then after breaking his back in a horrible crash on Dead Man’s Curve, Angel Boy’s father started to sell real estate. His father constructed the first post office that was also his father’s real-estate office.

The home that the family lived in was big. A very nice home, which his father built with his own two hands! The house was two stories tall and had a detached garage. The pump house was out by the street. Angel Boy’s sandpile was right next to the pump house under a chinaberry tree.

The family is rich with art and a healthy quality of family values. Both of his grandparents were very balanced in life, and the family is highly respected in the world around them. But art seemed to run pure in the family as a whole. The creative juices and an inner personal strength was expressed in the purest way. Love, personal wealth, and creativity is the lesson of every day. Even though his father was hurt, the family pulled together to maintain a strong balance in life. The 1960s was a great era, and everything in life was so new. The Beatles, Moody Blues, Led Zeppelin, and Elvis Presley ruled the airwaves.

The family enjoyed the fact that Angel Boy was so strong in his upper body. He would walk on his hands with his feet extended out in front of him. He would hang from behind the couch, leaving his legs to dangle. Walking with his hands, back and forth along the back of the couch! Also, to crawl back into hollow places that most people could not go! In the boat world, to stretch a cable or wire back into the hollow walls of a boat seemed impossible at times. Only Angel Boy could reach these areas. An example of how the family worked together and how the chores were completed, everyone worked together in all things. Each strength was utilized, and weaknesses were never even considered. Someone in the family was eager to try till the task was done. This attitude is what molded a great family of extremely creative-minded people. His father often said, Never give up! No task is to difficult, you simply need to figure out the right way to go about it.

Angel Boy was caught running on the roof after he climbed up onto the second-story roof! Only Angel was looking for his uncle Toni, who had flown his plane over their home just the day before! The plane was so close that he nipped the antenna that rose above the home! The boy simply thought that if they could do it, then he could too.

This child was rich in so many ways. To close his eyes to sleep was always a life in itself. He lived two lives, one in the world awake and the other was asleep. If he had an issue building something or doing anything, in his dreams he could do most anything. Dreams so real that oftentimes he could hardly distinguish between the two worlds! Only his dream world was as he wanted it to be. This life was so helpful for Angel Boy later on in life.

As usual, Angel Boy got in trouble. He was a very imaginative boy. He was very intelligent and loved to draw. It was a cold winter’s day while his grandmother watched over him. Memo often watched over the kids while the mother and father went to work. Memo caught Angel Boy hanging on the side of the milkman’s truck, and they were driving around the pump house. The driveway was a circle if you drove around the pump house. Angel Boy was such a daredevil!

Everyone loved Angel Boy. Only He was born with enlarged tonsils and constantly had to be rubbed down with Vicks and laid next to a breathing humidifier. He was inflicted with bronchitis. But at the age of five, his tonsils were removed. Angel Boy started to outgrow his illnesses, his health improved as well as his mischievous behavior! Only to suffer during the cold winter months.

In the summer or just about any time, the boys disliked getting dressed up. So under the boys’ dress clothes, the boys would wear their shorts. So as soon as they rounded the corner back home, the dress clothes were off! So accustomed to only cutoffs and bare feet.

One day the mother got so angry at the boys. She put them in the car and went inside to retrieve something she had forgotten. So when she came out and was ready to go on their journey, the boys were sitting in the middle of a big mud puddle. OK, this was not a good day.

Only these were the simple times. Life was so very simple here. The boys had no worries or issues to bother them! The brothers built rafts from driftwood and forts along the shore. The storms always scattered debris along the shoreline. It was one day that the three boys had a great idea to build a raft and set sail to Bolivar Island. They gathered driftwood far and wide. The raft was at least ten feet long and wide. After building the raft equipped with a mast and a sheet for a sail, the raft was stocked with water and sandwiches that their mother made! It was the day to launch and set sail. Only driftwood is void of buoyancy. So as soon as the boys set sail and made it about one hundred feet from the shore, the wood became saturated with water and sank! Their mother and father simply cried from laughing so hard. But it was fun to build and what an adventure, Angel Boy thought. A song comes to mind sang by the Beach Boys, Fun, Fun, Fun.

Angel Boy breaths in deep, savoring the smell of the salt air and salt grass. The wind was soft as it blew in through the windows’ screens. A hammock hung in the shade of a stilt house was the favorite spot to take an afternoon nap in the summer. The boys stayed coated with mosquito repellent to keep these insects at bay. A big issue when living near the salt water. Most every night, driftwood was gathered along the beach and a bonfire was built. The smell of this saltwater-seasoned wood smelled so good. The fire was so warm, and the sky seemed never-ending. The stars simply seemed to paint the sky! Again, the breeze felt so soft as if to stroked your body. You could not help but close your eyes and smile with the most pleasant feeling rushing within you. For here, life is always full of life and purpose. If there was ever heaven on earth, it was here! This song was playing in the distance, Moody Blues, Threshold of a Dream.

There was the place that the boys called the pipes; here the boys spent hours playing. The pipes were strung along the shore to stop the waves from eroding the land away. Water bugs and crabs often scattered as they would climb inside to play. The way the pipes were situated, it was almost like a maze. Many hours were spent in these pipes. The air was cool and the shade was so welcome from the hot summer sun.

Angel Boy was the youngest of the three boys. Say there was a trolley or a boat to try out, Angel Boy was always approached to be the first to go! Then if he made it, well then it must be OK to use. This brought on a daredevil lifestyle for Angel Boy.

His oldest brother was fun. The two boys seemed to bond and became real close. The middle brother always took front stage with their mother and father. He always got all the attention. See, the middle brother was born with crossed eyes. So they babied him more than the others. A surgery was performed to correct his eyes so as to live a normal life. But that was OK; there was plenty of attention to go around.

Angel Boy’s parents are good people. With great family values and lots of inner personal wealth. Angel Boy’s mother is gorgeous, and his father is very handsome. A good-looking family, most passersby would say. If you could measure life here, it was rich. The boys had everything they needed and wanted nothing! Life was fulfilling and abundant in every way.

The parents of the boy’s mother would come over to visit. Bobe and Mema were a little on the tight side. Meaning they were sort of stuck-up! But they were fun too!

One summer day’s visit, Bobe was driving the boys to the store. He would often take the boys to get a Coke and a candy bar. Well, Angel Boy and his brothers were hanging over the truck tailgate. They were watching the road as it seemed to come out from under the back of the truck. Bobe hit a bump, and Angel Boy flew up and out of the truck, landing facedown and sliding down the road. Only most of the roads were constructed of oyster shells in San Leon. But Angel Boy was pretty tough and suffered a few scratches. The boys were tough from being exposed to the sun and salt air. He shook it off and jumped back into the truck. Only Angel Boy was not going to hang off the back again, that hurt. He was laughing and thankful for this adventure with his grandfather! This time is often thought of when he hears the Beach Boys sing, Good Vibrations.

The boys would go visit Bobe and Mema, who lived in the Texas Hill country. It seemed like we drove for hours to get to their home and back. Always asking, Are we there yet? Bobe would get irritated to the constant chatter. So Bobe would start a game of counting cars. Everyone would select a color, and whoever counted the most cars of their chosen color would be the winner.

Once they arrived at the farm, evenings and during the heat of the day, they would gather to play dominoes and cards. The air was so clean and dry here. The air smelled fresh and like rich sandy soil. Bobe would turn the soil, and this had a wonderful smell of earth. The smell of the garden and wildflowers was so rich. Angel Boy loved the country. Only each year was different; the garden was always there. Only Bobe and Mema bought and sold land. This was their way to earn a living. Also, they sold the harvest each year. Only you
