    Foreword

W hen I entered Christian ministry twenty-five years ago, the ideologies and behaviors of the world were different. People regarded honor and respect as important virtues needing to be passed on to the next generation. Although moral boundaries that were once universally agreed on were beginning to be challenged by the progressive movement, society still agreed with a universal standard.

Although the Bible was being replaced by science and technology, its sacredness and worth were still being pursued somewhat by the younger generation. Today, the younger generation sees the scriptures and their contents as fables and insignificant in shaping their purposes and meanings in life. This has created a vacuum between biblical literacy and a person’s faith. Today, with a consumer mentality gripping the church promoted by motivational speakers lacking expository preaching disciplines, the average Christian is biblically illiterate. Considering that many within the church claim to love Jesus but lack a desire for the Word, those called to shepherd the sheep must resist church-growth gimmicks that lack discipleship.

This book, written by a young minister, offers the basic biblical structure for the new believer, casual Bible reader, or young person who lives in a pluralistic society. Zach returns his reader to biblical orthodoxy while carefully crafting practical examples of how the Bible is relevant to daily life. Seldom will you find a young minister who rightly divides the Word of God with careful emphasis placed on doctrinal truth.

Zach’s practical applications and reflection questions at the end of each chapter provide opportunities for the new convert, casual Bible reader, or teenager to discover the rich truths of God’s Word. Let’s join his efforts by eliminating biblical illiteracy from this generation that is commissioned to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
