    CHAPTER ONE

‘The Place Where Time Stood Still’

As Violet’s taxi pulled up outside the station, her heart dropped to her stomach. All the feelings and memories she had suppressed for the past 12 months came flooding back, threatening to overwhelm her. She was seriously wondering if her decision to return to School was made too soon.

Her hands felt clammy, and her heart felt like it was about to beat out of her chest. ‘You can do this Violet, just stay calm, deep breaths’ she steadied herself, trying to contain her anxiety. Violet noticed her hands were shaking as she pushed the lever downwards and opened the taxi door.

She stepped out into the drizzle and grey skies enveloping Edinburgh and made her way into the entrance of Waverly Train Station on Princess Street. The taxi driver was a cheery soul and had already deposited her single suitcase inside, out of the rain. Violet had a Ten Pound note ready, to save her rummaging around in her bag in the middle of the street. She was glad of that now, because she didn’t want to draw attention to herself, or for anyone around her to notice quite how much she was shaking. The taxi driver, Tam, had already told her pretty much his whole life story on the 10-minute journey from the airport. He wished her good luck with school and with a jaunty wave was off on his next fare, an elderly gentleman attempting to hoist several large bags into the rear of the cab. Violet collected her suitcase and made her way through the station’s entrance to catch the 8:30am train to Glengarroch, Wishinghym.

The tall, old iron fence that had rusted with age, towered over her as she stood in complete silence watching the world go by.

Deep breath Violet, you can do this She told herself as she chewed on her lip trying to calm her frantic mind.

Suddenly a familiar, comforting voice called out to her.

Violet! He exclaimed, in a cheerful tone and a bright smile as he strolled towards her with open arms.

Caleb! Violet gasped, surprised as she turned to face him.

What are you doing here? Caleb questioned, while he threw his arms around Violet to embrace her in a warm, friendly hug.

You look so different; I mean you look great Violet! Caleb exclaimed admiring her new-found sense of fashion since the last time he last saw her.

A blotch of red crept up on her cheeks as she tried to hide how anxious she was.

It’s so good to see you. Did you meet any hot guys in Italy? he asked. Violet stayed silent to his question as she scanned his facial expressions, trying to tell if he was being serious. Then she glued the pieces together.

Everyone must think I was in Italy because my brothers are there, Violet muttered to herself. Caleb didn’t hear as he was busy checking the time on his smart watch.

Oh yeah, there was this one guy, but it didn’t last. Violet finally answered, cheerfully trying to hide her lie.

Sounds like you had fun then. Caleb remarked as he squeezed her hands. I have to go and find Bethany, you know how dramatic she can be, Caleb remarked with a chuckle as he picked up his abnormally large bag. It’s nice to see you Violet, I’m so glad you’re back, Caleb smiled, glancing back at Violet as he strolled off into the train station.

Violet loved Caleb as he was totally unlike anyone she had ever met. Caleb’s style was quite gothic; he could be seen wearing studded leather jackets, curled feathered hair that was a natural, beaming blonde and midnight black biker gloves. Caleb loved music, he was skilled in many instruments like, piano, guitar, and the Violin. Caleb’s brother was a car mechanic and introduced him to his love of sports cars at a young age as well as his appreciation for good music.

Violet bent down and picked up her custom-made Designer Suitcase, in her other hand she held her dark blue Duffle bag that her father had bought her. Taking a deep breath, she plucked up the courage to walk further into the dark busy station. As she struggled to find an empty seat on the platform, she was surrounded by the whispers of her fellow peers.

Violet had sun kissed blonde hair, that was bouncy and fluffy. Her eyes were like freshly melted chocolate, a slightly rounded face with defined cheekbones. Violet enjoyed simple activities like painting and being outdoors, she was a very nurturing person who just wanted the best for the people she loved, but if you got on her bad side, you would instantly regret it. Violet was smart and very determined; she was a go-getter and would never wait around for anyone or anything.

In a dark oak tree outside the station’s grounds rested a mousy haired boy named Nicklaus Newton, nicknamed Klaus. Violet and he went way back to before they could even talk; their mothers used to be best friends in high school, so they pretty much grew up together. Violet’s mother would say that they were glued together; you never saw one without the other. Violet and Klaus had been there for each other through the hardest of times. Klaus was Violet’s best friend, but they lost contact when Violet disappeared from school with no explanation, just over a year ago.

Klaus tried calling her many times, but she never answered and eventually he gave up. Klaus had soft, short hair that was very 90’s style, curtained and parted down the middle. His Blazer and tie were a dark forest green, embroidered with the school badge. He also wore smart tartan patterned trousers with loafers and a white shirt. When he wasn’t elegantly dressed in his school uniform, Klaus could be caught wearing cashmere sweaters and woolly jumpers, along with black converse high tops. His style wasn’t the boldest, but his adorable, contagious smile made up for it. Klaus was originally from England, but his parents moved to Scotland when he was in primary school. His mother was an author, and his father had his own Gin company that had been passed down through the generations.

Violet’s back, voices echoed like whispers from the dead. As Klaus overheard the news, a cold, chilling shiver rolled down his spine.

Did you hear who’s back? Nate blurted out as he shifted to face Catherine.

Klaus leapt out of the tree.

"Violet! What the hell is that bitch doing back in town?" Catherine snapped while she glared at Violet through the large bay window, crossing her arms.

Thomas (Klaus’ best friend) on the other hand was up to his usual shenanigans bullying and teasing the 1st years. Klaus glared in Thomas’s direction before he gave him direct orders to leave the 1st years alone, preferably before they all got in trouble.

Thomas Millington had dark muddy brown hair that was straight and fluffy, his icy blue eyes were heavenly to look at; Catherine had previously said that they reminded her of a light blue sky on a hot summer’s day. He was always wearing a polo shirt from some sort of designer brand, or a crew neck and his iconic leather jacket – the one his mother had given him when he was eight, before she left. Thomas’s mother was from Canada and his father was from Scotland. Thomas seemed like the typical rich white boy that everyone hated, but he was just very damaged and hid it through causing others pain.

Move! Klaus snapped as he made his way over to Thomas, shoving Nate and Catherine out of his way. Klaus snatched the first year’s backpack from Thomas, tossing the bag back in the first year’s hand and grabbing Thomas by the ear.

Ow, Ow, that hurts. Thomas whined, breaking Klaus’ grip and rubbing his ear.

I was only having a joke Thomas confessed coldly, straightening his spine.

Unless you became a comedian over the summer, then your jokes are still as bland as your mum’s cooking Klaus teased as he and Thomas strolled over to the rest of the group.

Why did you come for my mum like that? Thomas moaned, like a scolded child, as his head shot round to face Klaus.

Why are you insulting each other’s moms again? Catherine scoffed, rolling her eyes with her arms folded. Thomas shrugged his shoulders at Catherine, but Klaus was already lost gazing off into the distance.

There in the arch stood a girl, with an unforgettable face, her golden blonde hair shone in the sunlight. Her eyes wandered the station until they fell upon the boy she had abandoned. Klaus, who’s eyes were fixated on her, suddenly realised he was staring. Violet gave him a warm smile, expecting him to do the same. But Klaus looked away pretending not to notice her. Violet looked down at her feet with a wistful expression, taking a deep breath.

A loud screech shook the Station walls as the Train pulled in to collect the students.

Where’s your bags Klaus...is that old noggin getting a bit hazy? Thomas taunted Klaus in a sarcastic tone.

Ha, ha, ha. No. My driver already put them on the train. You kilt lovin, Haggis eatin, Son of a… Klaus sassed, but was interrupted by Catherine before he could finish his sentence.

Okay enough. We aren’t even on the train yet, and you have tried to fight each other twice now Catherine scowled, Thomas and Klaus both looked at each other before they erupted into laughter.

Thomas yanked Klaus’ Scarf from his neck and leapt onto the train. Klaus ran after Thomas, Catherine and a small young boy named Sam followed behind at their own pace.

Thomas threw the scarf around his neck carelessly, as he began throwing open all the cabin doors he passed.

Shut the door you idiot! Students yelled as Klaus passed by. One by one he began shutting the carriage doors that Thomas had purposely flung open, just to annoy anybody and everybody.

Violet and Caleb were peacefully having a chat when the train door abruptly swung open, and Thomas jumped in, slamming the door shut behind him. Thomas ripped the cabin curtains closed, before turning around, stunned to see who was in the cabin.

Vivi, long time no see, how you been? Thomas said with a smug look on his face, as he plumped himself in between Violet and Caleb and tossed his arms around both of their shoulders.

Violet nearly choked on her drink, Thomas! she said, gasping for air. What are you doing here? Violet furrowed her brows in confusion.

Dear God. Caleb grumbled under his breath as he shrugged out from under Thomas’ arm, moving to the seat opposite.

Does Klaus know you’re back? Thomas asked Violet with a menacing smile.

But before Violet could respond, the noise from the creaky, Victorian era door interrupted her.

Shut the door! snapped the students from the Cabin next door.

Perfect Timing, Thomas laughed as he raised his chin tauntingly.

A chill shot through Violet’s body as she examined Thomas, fearful of what he was up to.

Smart Arse, I found you! Klaus exclaimed arrogantly, from the other side of the door.

Come in then! Thomas said with a grin plastered on his face, with his eyes gazing at the small wooden doors.

Tip, next time mate, don’t shut the door behind you and make it so obvious and…. Klaus rambled, then he froze.

Violet glanced up from her feet shyly, Thomas’ eyes glared back and forth between Violet and Klaus, waiting for one of them to say something. Klaus swallowed nervously; it was like he was tongue-tied. Violet turned to face Caleb who had buried his face in a book, avoiding eye contact.

Is anyone going to say something or are we just going to play ‘don’t break the sugar bowl’? Thomas questioned, raising his hands in the air.

The sound of footsteps gradually appeared behind Klaus, who was frozen as still as a statue, not moving.

Are you just going to stand there for the whole train journey? Thomas gestured to Klaus. Seconds later, Catherine pushed Klaus into the carriage as Sam and her piled into the train cabin unaware of the awkward silence.

The door slammed shut behind them interrupting the reunion. As Catherine quickly turned around to see who had shut the door, she started yelling through the small window at the train guard who had locked it.

I am not supposed to be here! Open the door you Idiot! Catherine shouted angrily, banging on the small glass window as she peaked out of the curtains.

The train guard just waved at her from the other side of the window happily, making her even more annoyed. Catherine slammed her hand off the window before she abruptly sat down, folding her arms in a huff.

Catherine McQueen had deep brown hair that was naturally curly, and her eyes were like the fresh green grass on a summer morning when the sun shone upon them. Catherine’s ethnicity was Latino; her mother was from Puerto Rico and her father was from San Diego, but both now live in Miami, after her father’s company relocated.

Catherine was very self-assured, she stood up for what she believed in, no matter the consequences. She was extremely intelligent and always got straight A’s. Catherine was from a family of six children; three sisters and two brothers; she was the youngest out of them all.

Catherine’s family were very wealthy, and she was the only one of her siblings that was still in school. Before Catherine came to Scotland she used to attend an all-girls school in Miami, but after her parents realised that the school wasn’t doing her any good, she was sent to Wishinghym Academy to try boarding.

Catherine didn’t have an easy upbringing; she was bullied as a child by her closest friends’ multiple times. She had found it hard to make friends as she had trust issues because of how many times she had been hurt. Thomas was Catherine’s best friend; they were very alike; Thomas was the only person that Catherine felt like she could truly be herself with and trust. To others, Thomas seemed like a complete spoiled rich boy, but to Catherine he was so much more. She truly cared about him and enjoyed his company; he was the only person that she opened up to and vice versa. Catherine was very fashionable, she often wore leather jackets and heeled boots, and her hair was always styled in beach waves or up in a ponytail.

Thomas raised to his feet and placed his hands on Klaus’ shoulders, forcing him to give in and sit down.

Give me my scarf back, Klaus snapped as he pulled the scarf from Thomas.

Klaus neatly wrapped the scarf around his neck, like a supermodel on a Paris runway.

I told you that only women wear their scarfs that way, Thomas said as he gestured at a lady outside the train window who was wearing a scarf the exact same way.

Catherine ripped her jacket off and started to fan herself with her hand, she looked over at Klaus who was still wearing the Scarf.

Are you expecting the windows to blow open, or are you just trying to get on my nerves, it’s like one hundred degrees in here! Catherine sassed to Klaus as she folded her arms in annoyance and turned away.

Caleb is wearing one, Klaus responded, quietly under his breath expecting her not to hear him.

Well, it’s fashion, and you sure can’t pull off that look. Catherine snapped back, staring at Klaus intensely. You know what? Thomas said calmly trying to relieve the tension as he reached for Klaus’s scarf. I think I will just take the scarf; it’s causing too much… But Klaus cut Thomas off. That’s it, I’ve had enough of this bloody scarf, Klaus exclaimed as he frantically removed the scarf, tossing it in front, hitting Sam on the head.

The train whistled as it began to set off on its 3-hour journey to Wishinghym Academy.

Thomas kicked off his shoes and rested his hands behind his head.

Absolutely. Not. Get those back on! Catherine blurted out as she pointed at Thomas’s feet in disgust.

Caleb reached into his bag and pulled out his writing journal. He snatched a pen from his pencil case and began editing the song he had written. From the corner of his eye a small boy with big doe eyes stared at him, at an uncomfortably close distance.

"Jesus Christ!’’ Caleb gasped as he slammed his journal on his lap and shifted to face the young boy.

Who the hell are you? Caleb asked the boy, looking him up and down, assessing him.

I was wondering that as well, Violet added, looking up from her phone.

I am Sam! The boy said energetically, Caleb jumped from the pitch of the young boy’s voice.

That was… high, Caleb complained as he held his ears, and twisted away from Sam.

So, what are you doing here? Violet asked Sam, as he smiled at her cheerfully.

Miss Catherine said that… Sam replied pointing at Catherine, but Catherine interrupted him. I said that if Young Sam here helps me for the whole week, I will help him get Mary’s number, Catherine explained.

Mazie’s Number! Sam yelled at Catherine, correcting her.

Whatever, close enough Catherine responded to Sam, turning her shoulder away from him.

Of course she did, Thomas chuckled, exchanging looks with Catherine, who was unbothered by his comment.

Catherine reached into her jeans pocket and took out a packet of gum. Why don’t you see if anyone wants some? Catherine instructed, handing the gum packet to Sam. Sam leaped to his feet in excitement as he ran up to Klaus, shoving the gum in his face.

You want some? Sam asked as he waved the gum packet and smiled encouragingly.

No, thanks. Klaus responded politely, moving Sam’s hand to Thomas.

Thomas made a face and refused so he moved onto Violet.

Do you want some? Sam said innocently.

Sam stood in front of Violet with his big ocean eyes staring at her hopefully. Violet felt guilty so she accepted the gum. Sam turned around and offered some to Caleb as well.

I don’t know where your slimy, sticky fingers have been...so no. Caleb proclaimed with a look of disgust painted on his face.

Violet raised the gum towards her mouth but paused when she noticed everyone was staring at her. Ugh...what did you do? Violet moaned as she pulled the gum away from her mouth and rolled her eyes at Catherine.

It’s Sam’s gum, I didn’t do anything, Catherine responded in a sweet innocent tone, hiding the fact that she was lying.

But Miss Catherine y… Sam was hushed by Catherine before he could finish his sentence.

The door unlocked as a short crooked, hunched back woman appeared with the buffet trolley.

Anything off the trolley Kids? The old lady asked them, pushing the cart towards the door.

The trolley was like a sweet shop on wheels. It had everything from milkshakes to slushes to gummy bears to cotton candy and the freshest Cakes in Scotland. It even had a built-in ice cream machine that had lots of different flavours.

Thomas eagerly jumped off his seat and rushed over. I will have that...oh and that, you gotta give me whatever that is! Thomas hollered excitedly as he pointed to all the delicious treats, like a kid let loose.

Sam walked up to the trolley and took out his wallet. I will have one tea with two sugars please. Sam said politely, handing the lady a £5 note.

Are you an eighty-year-old in a child’s body? Catherine exclaimed, judging Sam.

Sam shrugged his shoulders unsure of what she meant.

"No. He will have a chocolate milkshake, like a normal child, Catherine said emphasising the word ‘normal’ as she observed Sam. Pass it here." Catherine gestured as she put her hand out, Sam swallowed anxiously as he handed her the £5 note.

Oh, I will have one of them too. Violet said with a warm smile, she was still avoiding eye contact with Klaus, she evaded him like his eyes were lasers.

Same but make Vanilla for me? Caleb added.

For the next 15 minutes no one said a single word, they were too busy enjoying their treats.

Yum! My mum and dad never let me have any treats! Sam exclaimed in a high-pitched voice.

I wonder why? Caleb said sarcastically as he looked at Violet with wide eyes, Violet giggled lightly in response.

The cabin was filled with giggles emanating from Thomas and Catherine as they exchanged sneaky, mischievous texts back and forth. Catherine glanced towards Thomas with a menacing smile before she said, I’m bored, let’s play a game.

Sam jumped to his feet. Oh I love games! Sam screamed; Caleb threw his hand over Sam’s mouth. NO... more screaming! Caleb ordered; Sam shrunk back in his seat quietly, not uttering another word.

Okay, what game? Klaus asked, fixing his hair as he sat up.

Truth or Dare? Catherine responded with her bright emerald eyes beaming at Violet, waiting for her response.

Let’s do it, Violet said with uncommon confidence, Klaus glanced over to her surprised at her response.

Violet, Truth or Dare? Catherine asked with a fake smile, with a smug tone as she admired her neatly painted nails.

Truth. Violet responded boldly. She made sure Catherine couldn’t tell that deep down, she was actually terrified.

Of course she’d pick that! Catherine complained, rolling her eyes, as she looked at Thomas who remained silent.

You do realise that I’m sitting right here? Violet snapped, which was very unlike her, even Caleb raised his brows in surprise.

Aw looks like the pretty princess is mad. Catherine said, scrunching her nose with a fake smile.

Violet jumped to her feet, First of all, don’t call me that. she ordered. Catherine watched Violet with wry amusement as she made her way over to her, Secondly, I choose dare. Violet sassed as she folded her arms, blocking Catherine’s view.

    Catherine laughed, unbothered.

Perfect! she said as she rose to her feet. Violet felt a little intimidated and took a step back. Caleb put his hand on his head unaffected by the whole situation, whilst Klaus and Thomas looked at each other with wide eyes.

Violet, I dare you to kiss Klaus. Catherine said, smirking menacingly.

Are you stupid? There is absolutely no way I am doing that! Violet exclaimed, as she stared at Catherine with bewilderment.

Did you seriously just call me stupid? Catherine snapped giving Violet an evil gaze. Thomas leapt to his feet and interfered before anything happened, he looked at Catherine who relentlessly glared back at him. Thomas raised his eyebrows, gesturing for Catherine to take a seat beside him, smiling as Catherine plumped herself where he gestured, crossing her arms and furrowing her eyebrows.

I really am sick of you acting as though I’m a child or something. Violet snapped bitterly, staring at Catherine.

So? What are you going to do about it? Catherine asked menacingly, Thomas sighed and rolled his eyes as he had thought he had put an end to it.

Violet glanced at Catherine, chewing on her bottom lip wondering if she was about to make a big mistake. With Violet’s heart pounding in her chest, she placed herself down beside Klaus.

Klaus anxiously gazed at her, baffled.

‘Just do it!’ Violet thought to herself as she put both of her hands on Klaus’s cheeks, leaned in and placed a gentle kiss upon his soft, plump lips. Sam’s face dropped, Caleb didn’t approve, Thomas sat up surprised and Catherine looked unbothered. Violet on the other hand, quickly shifted back to her seat opposite Caleb. Klaus gasped silently as he scanned the room, breathing heavily, attempting to evaluate what just happened.

Boring, Catherine said obnoxiously, breaking the silence.

Thomas paused as he began to think, his face lit up as he shifted slightly to face Catherine. Cat, I have one for you and it’s a dare. He said turning back into the smug, menacing teen he was.

Go for it, Catherine winked at Thomas playfully.

I dare you to steal something from the trolley, Thomas said, smirking and encouraging her to perform as he looked her in the eyes.

"Easy!’’ Catherine said with a quick smile towards Thomas, as she raised to her feet, grabbed Sam by the hand and dragged him behind her.

Miss Catherine, I don’t think this is a good idea, Sam suggested, looking up at her with his large, innocent eyes, apprehensively.

Catherine turned to face Sam as she crouched down to his level, Don’t worry Sam, it’s only a little game, she winked then walked off towards the lady with the trolley, Sam shuddering behind her.

Okay, so I will ‘accidently’ knock something off the trolley and you will distract the Trolley Lady while I slip a piece of candy up my sleeve. Got it? Catherine explained to Sam.

Sam nodded his head nervously, fidgeting with his hands.

Catherine confidently strolled over to the lady managing the trolley and started chatting to her, Sam on the other hand creeped behind her, trying not to be seen.

So then I was like,’’ No way! Catherine exclaimed, as she threw her hands out, purposely knocking over the lollipop tub, causing it to fall and spill out all over the apple red carpet.

Oops, sorry Catherine gestured raising her hand apologising.

Not to worry dear, accidents happen...I can get them though! The Trolley Lady assured as she knelt down, Catherine looked at Sam with wide eyes as she gestured him to ‘hurry up and distract her’.

Sam jumped out from behind the wall, Hey Look! He yelled as he began to dance, jumping up and down waving his arms in the air, the Trolley lady looked up Oh wow, aren’t you talented! She said with a warm smile towards Sam who was flopping about on the floor like a fish out of water.

Sam then jumped to his feet and proceeded to show the Trolley lady his next dance that he had learned from his big cousin. While doing so he fell and tripped, whacking his knee off one of the carriages door handles Ow! Sam cried as he fell to the floor. The Lady rushed to aid him, abandoning the Trolley instantly.

Catherine quickly slipped two lollipops up her sleeve and then placed the full tub back onto the Trolley.

Come on Sam, you’re okay! Catherine said, convincing Sam to stop being dramatic and follow her back to the cabin. Sam limped at his own pace, hobbling behind her.

The doors to the carriage suddenly opened and in came Catherine and a limping Sam.

What did you do to him? Violet gasped, concerned.

I didn’t do anything to him, he did it to himself. Plus, he’s fine! Catherine responded as she threw herself down beside Thomas.

Are you okay? Klaus asked Sam, as Sam climbed onto the seat separating Violet and Klaus. Caleb ignored the entire situation, too busy listening to music and typing away on his laptop.

I’m okay, I just fell distracting the trolley lady for Miss Catherine, but it’s only a little bump. Sam responded, as he rubbed his knee and wiped the snot dripping from his nose. Caleb gagged as he considered Sam with disgust, before he decided it would be better to stare at the endless countryside out the window.

Thomas scrunched his eyebrows in confusion as he turned to face Catherine I said that you were to steal something, not Sam,.

No, you didn’t specifically say it had to be me, plus I was the one who actually came up with the plan, and the one who actually stole it, Sam just...helped a little Catherine said in a bitchy tone with a fake smile.

Thomas made a childish face at Catherine as she handed Sam the stolen lollipop.

Thank you Miss Catherine! Sam gasped in excitement as he unwrapped the lollipop.

The remaining time left was spent on their electronics, apart from Sam who just stared out the large square window fascinated at the Scottish Countryside, and the sheer amount of wildlife there was.

A thick, inky darkness settled in the cabin, the light from their phones illuminated their faces.

Why is it so dark? Sam whimpered.

Relax, we’re in a tunnel, Klaus reassured him. Violet glanced over at Klaus, smiling softly, she forgot how caring he was.

I hate the darkness, Sam cried, scrunching his brows.

Bad luck to you dude, this tunnel goes on for miles. Thomas said hiding his smug look as he passed Sam a piece of gum to chew on.

Oh… Sam said, clutching his backpack tightly as he smacked his jaw, enjoying the gum.

You know, I heard there are bats in this tunnel, bats that like to eat little boys like you, Thomas teased towards Sam, wiggling his hands and making scary noises.

What, really? Sam asked, his voice trembling.

Cut it out, it’s not true he is just trying to scare you. Violet said, kicking Thomas in the shin as she tried to give Sam some reassurance.

You don’t know that Violet, Thomas fired back as he took a sip of his drink.

Well that must mean that you are also in danger, considering you act like a child half of the time! Catherine butted in, shutting Thomas up.

Thomas made a snarky face at Catherine, who then decided to elbow him for being so immature.

They felt like they were in the tunnel for a lifetime but in reality it was only 15 minutes, Caleb was bored of reading his magazine and wanted to gossip. He glanced over at Violet who shrugged her shoulders then went back to her phone, Caleb placed his phone on the large table that you could pull out or tuck in, and looked up So, how’s the weather outside? he asked optimistically, trying to make conversation.

Oh I don’t know Caleb, what a dumb question to ask, as we are in a tunnel, and we are surrounded by complete darkness. So why don’t you use your brain and wait until we are out of the tunnel to find out? Catherine snapped, as she looked at him as though he was ridiculous.

Jesus, I was only trying to make conversation, but forget I ever asked! Caleb replied bitterly as he widened his eyes at Violet. Violet grinned trying not to laugh.

All of a sudden, a small flurry of light filled the Cabin, and the darkness was no more. Far in the distance stood Wishinghym Academy. Built in 1840, way before cars were invented; making the train the only way to get to the School. There was a recently built road, but it was hard to find, covered in debris; plus it took a long while to locate. Most of the students who attended the academy weren’t local, so the train was much more convenient.

Violet’s ancestors had been attending the school since it first opened its doors in 1855. The Academy was built by an Archaeologist who had planned to live there with his family, but unfortunately passed away before he could; his wife and his two kids lived there for 14 years before they finally moved away. Many said that he woke the Evil deity Kedes when he went to explore her tomb in Egypt, but there was no proof and everyone eventually forgot about it.

The school was surrounded by a fearsome shadowy forest that stretched for miles, cloaking the Academy like a veil. Rumours had been spread that a secluded library built by the Ancient Archaeologist, Albert Romeo Fitzgerald, had been erased to time and the location of it remained a mystery even until today. The forgotten library had been drowned by the roots of nature, shielded like a knight in armour, and masked away from sight.

The Academy was elegant and breath-taking, with its magnificent gleaming marble staircase, and light that bounced off it like the reflection of a mirror.

Wishinghym Academy’s exterior was built like a palace, with red sandstone blocks, square shaped that were a murky burnt orange shade, worn with age. The sun washed the grounds of the Academy with a golden glow. Shades of green blazed across the gardens, everything was perfectly trimmed to height, and rich vibrant flowers adorned every plant in sight. The Academy sat upright on the peak of the cliff, and to the West a Caribbean-blue waterfall spilt out from the rock edge, falling peacefully into the lake below.

As the train came to a steady stop, Violet was more than desperate to escape the awkward, uncomfortable silence. She leaped up, threw on her coat, grabbed her bags and rushed out of the carriages with the other students.

Wait up Violet! Caleb shouted as he struggled gathering all his things, but Violet was already out of sight.

The cold autumnal breeze blew off her Navy-blue cashmere hat. A hand suddenly reached into the air to retrieve it.

Here you go. a boy with a red briefcase, jet black hair and an unfamiliar voice towered over her.

Thank you! Violet chirped, she paused and looked at him, Are you new here? She asked, studying his face, trying to recall if she had seen him before.

I am actually, just arrived here from America, He responded, looking Violet up and down.

Oh cool, where abouts? Violet asked him, trying to ignore the awkward and uncomfortable stare he was giving her.

Somewhere small, you wouldn’t know it. He replied quickly, staring into what felt like her soul.

So... Do you know what house you are in? Violet blurted out, trying to make conversation.

"I do actually I’m in Willabee
