Where in Time Is Adam Thorn? - D.A. Galante

    PRELUDE

Thorn sat quietly in a hotel room while reading a book. His guiding angel, Gladys, materialized before him and announced, I have a surprise for you, Adam. You’ve done such a terrific job as a time traveler during your years of serving God as a valiant soldier in the battle of good versus evil, or God versus Satan. You’ve been such a faithful servant, often at the risk of your own peril, and have done everything we’ve asked of you.

Additionally, you’ve  helped others, and given up benefits such as having a loving relationship, a family life, a secure home, and more, all for the service of the Almighty. So he wants to reward you for your sacrifices and faithfulness.

Reward? Like how? Balloons and a big cake with candles?, he said humorously.

"No, silly. You are being promoted. You are now an Advanced Time Traveler.

Well, what exactly does Advanced mean?

Gladys continued. In the past you have not been permitted to alter history, but only to help usher it along in places it may fail to occur. Now, you can actually change history.

Huh? I’m not quite sure how that can work.

I know it sounds complicated, Adam, but consider this. If a time traveler from the future arrived here in this current time period, and conducted certain activities, they didn’t really change history, because it hasn’t occurred yet. They are just helping to make history happen the way God wants it to.

Yeah, that is complicated. Perhaps I should brush up on my physics., Thorn said half kidding.

Now, answer me seriously. Does it make sense to you?

Sure, Gladys. I think I understand.

To clarify further, history has always occurred in the manner that God planned it. For example, you cannot go back in time today and assassinate Hitler because that world war was meant to happen. And attempting to alter it now would cause a paradox in history.

Now history, that which has already happened, is because a number of our advanced time travelers were assigned there to make it happen. You are now one of those soldiers granted the ability to make history happen. But be warned. Sometimes it will be hard, and at times you will not like what you have to do, but remember it has to happen the way God planned it. Like it or not.

Adam is stunned. Hold on, Gladys! You mean all this time there were other agents like me out there?

    Yes. That is correct.

So I wasn’t so special after all.

Gladys laughed and said, Yes Adam, you are certainly very special. But there is a myriad of time travelers working as agents of the Almighty. Stemming back to the beginning of time, to present day, and even into the future. Making history happen according to God’s plan and his will.

"But know this, not everyone of our soldiers out there does what you do. And you cannot do what they do. Some are scientists, teachers, many are women, others are engineers, doctors, mathematicians, or those coming from different walks of life. All possessed with various skills and operating as time travelers for God.

Gee, Gladys. Why wasn’t I ever told about this?

Because, Adam, there was no need for you to know. You had your assignments, and they had theirs. Many of them operated without knowing that you were an agent just like they were. So they functioned in the dark just like you did. Don’t ask me to explain why. I don’t know. But it was God’s will is the best answer I can offer.

All right, Gladys. I’ve always said that the Lord works in mysterious ways. So, I guess that is an example.

Keep in mind there is constant evil in the world. And yes, Adam, you were and will be a part of making certain segments of history happen. Even though it may be the devil at work, you still have to follow the grand scheme of things. Remember, that when Satan rebelled against God, he took a third of the angels with him. They became his demons and his agents as well.

But fear not, Adam. God still has two thirds of the angels operating as his agents. Add to this his time travelers, and that means everything operates in his favor. That’s why God will be the winner and Satan will be the loser. He, along with his demons will eventually be cast into hell during the end times.

Gladys clarified further. You will not always be out there as a combative sword slinging paladin to make history, but simply to do as you have in the past to help usher it along. Even with simply just a word or gesture offered to the person you are working with, while providing an idea to them of what to do, or how and when to do it.

Therefore Adam, you are now able to assist God in making history happen. And I will be there to help as always, and you will still have your trusty supernaturally powered cane that you nicknamed Will at your disposal to assist you.

Thorn nodded in compliance, and proudly took a moment to digest and absorb what all has been stated here.

Adam said, Thank you Gladys, for all you have done to help me to receive this blessed honor. I couldn’t have done it any of it without you.

Gladys simply smiled, then said "All in God’s plan in the scheme of things, Adam. All in God’s plan.

    MAIN CHARACTERS

Meet the Three Main Characters in the Sword of Expulsion Series

    1. ADAM THORN. Protected by his tireless faith, he is a loyal employee of God. No, he doesn't collect a salary, just blessings. A time jaunting champion for the oppressed who is not afraid to stand up and do battle when the forces of good and evil collide. Guided by his guardian angel and armed with his trusty cane which is blessed with heavenly powers, this gallant soldier is a student of history, master swordsman and skilled martial artist. Seasoned in both ancient and modern warfare, throughout the centuries he saw action as a Templar Knight, Army Ranger, and government agent. Thorn is a daring crusader who jets his way via a celestial powered time portal (a.k.a. chariot of God) all the way back from B.C. to modern times and on up thru the future. Thorn does not necessarily alter history, rather he helps usher it along in areas where it was in danger of not occurring. Proudly brandishing his cross, he’s known for wearing a long dark garment such as a cloak, duster, or trench coat which helps him blend in with the shadows of night.

    2. GLADYS. Thorn’s guardian angel whom he nicknamed Gladys because he is always glad to have her watching over him. Seldom does she interfere in his assignments but appears when necessary to offer wisdom, guidance and encouragement for his protection and success in accomplishing his time travel missions. Her glorious and glowing presence, which is nearly beyond human description, is usually something that only he can detect, along with her calming voice.

    3. WILL. Thorn’s heavenly powered walking staff. Adam has dubbed this tool Will because its potential is activated thru prayer and is unleashed solely at the will and approval from Almighty God. Crafted by angels from a meteorite that fell toward earth, it consists of a rare blend of elements which make it light as aluminum but stronger than any steel. Supernaturally this cane can convert into a majestic broadsword, one similar to the flaming Sword of Expulsion that guarded the Bible’s paradise of Eden. Even more impressive, it possesses the heavenly powers of fire and lightning which are capable of discharging an intense flame or thunderbolt.

    THE ASP AGENCY

    COLONEL POWELL, DIRECTOR

Prior to being chosen by God as a time traveler, and following his tour of duty in military service as an Army Ranger, Adam Thorn was recruited by ASP where he served as a cloak-and-dagger or covert agent. ASP stands for American Security and Protection, a satellite agency of the CIA which operates worldwide as a private security firm. The symbol of the agency was the asp viper. As a protection firm it hires and places personnel around the globe as security guards and bodyguards, often in terrorist regions to help protect a headquarters building, an oil rig, or to guard VIPS such as a politicians and diplomats. Unknown to the general public ASP performs black ops assignments that the CIA does not wish to be associated with. They hired a wide range of free-lancers to perform various duties; mercenaries, pilots, snipers, deep sea divers, demolition and computer experts, or whatever skill is needed to accomplish a particular mission. Access to covert records on file is highly restricted and the agency has affiliations with Interpol, the international criminal police organization which enables police in member countries to work together to fight international crime.

    Apples

    Chapter One

Adam Thorn returned to his hotel room with a bag of apples under his arm. As he sat down on a couch to eat one of them, he could hear the voice of his guardian angel chuckling softly in the background.

    What is so funny, Gladys?

The room lit up with a bright glow. She materialized and said, I know your affection for apples.

So? Apples are good for you. Are you jealous that you cannot enjoy one of them?, he said teasingly.

Angels have manna from heaven. That’s all we need.

So, Gladys, as always, I’m glad to see you. What can I do for you today?

I have a quiz for you. Can you name the most famous stories about apples?

Oh, I get it. You are testing me, as you often do. Hoping you can stump me, huh? Bet I can answer your question.

    Go ahead then.

The first one is the story of Eve eating one in the garden of Eden. But people have that one wrong. The scriptures make no mention of an apple in that garden. It was just the stuff told by story tellers over the years. Besides, that is not what the Bible means by the forbidden fruit.

    Very good so far, Adam.

And William Tell, a hero of Swiss folklore, became a symbol of Switzerland's national pride and independence. He is best known for shooting an arrow through an apple sitting on his son's head. Tell's feat of archery supposedly took place around 1300, when Switzerland was under Austrian rule.

    That’s two, Adam. Keep going.

Let’s see. John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees to large parts of Pennsylvania, Ontario, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, as well as the northern counties of present-day West Virginia.

That’s three Adam. Can you name one more?

Hmm. A fourth, huh Gladys? I probably know it, but at the moment it skips my mind. How about sharing a clue?

Better yet. I will take you there. That’s because you have a role in the outcome of that one.

Really? What exactly do you mean by that?

You will see. Grab your trench coat and trusty cane, and get ready to travel back into time.

    Chapter Two

Gladys waved her arm. As she did so, Thorn’s time travel portal magically appeared in the room as it lit up with a bright glare. Adam calmly stepped thru it, then he felt himself riding in a soft cloud, as if he were surfing on a smooth ocean wave. When he awoke, he found himself standing in a country setting. She gave him a direction to march until they reached their destination.

He inquired, Where are we Gladys, and in what time period?

We are in the late summer during the 1600 hundreds at Woolsthorpe Manor near Grantham in Lincolnshire, England. You are about to see a man sitting in his garden.

Thorn saw the man sitting under an apple tree. He appeared to be partially asleep. At that moment, Adam felt he knew who this individual was, and then realized what this situation was all about from his history studies.

Gladys whispered softly. Now Adam, here is your role. Take a steady aim with your cane, and launch a strike that will make the apple fall directly upon that man.

Thorn was standing from a distance behind a tree so the man didn’t see him. Then he did as he was told. He positioned his body, tucked the top of his cane tightly into his armpit, took careful aim with his eyes and waited for a laser beam of light to exit his supernaturally charged cane. His delay was due to the fact that it operated strictly under the will of the Almighty. That is why he nicknamed it Will.

The action performed exactly as intended, and struck the core of the dangling apple with precision. The apple fell and landed directly on the top of the man’s head.

Adam made his appearance known to him as he casually approached. Howdy mister. Mind if I take some of those apples that are lying on the ground?

Uh, no. Help yourself, the man said as he rubbed the top of his head where the apple hit him.

Thorn collected several then said, "Too bad apples have to fall down to the ground like this.

It bruises them. Oh well, thanks for the apples. I’ll be on my way now, so have a good day."

    The man responded with
