Cora Davis, a retired high school English teacher of 30 years, has worked with charities and mentored high school youth. As a teacher, she was fascinated with the incessant energy of youth, with their resilience and with those who had hopes for a future that would take them beyond ordinary circumstances.Like many other adults who have had years of daily contact with culturally diverse children and youth, she is aware of untapped reservoirs of talents, challenges and inspiring possibilities among both advantaged and disadvantaged children and youth.Memories of activities and interactions with youth have resulted in verses found in this short volume. Simple, honest communication about the past and the present, she believes, is a powerful tool to get to know and assist the people who will be replacing today's leaders. Brief, uncomplicated activities in reading, discussing, listening and learning could result in improvements on a large scale.

Dedication
This book is dedicated to parents and their children of ages twelve and up.
In each endeavor of our lives, we are encouraged by others and by our own inner strengths to improve, to endure. Obviously, parents have first claim to inspire the direction their children’s lives take. Others enhance and help to advance that direction towards progress.
What a powerful role parents have as guides to bond, to prepare, to nurture, to inspire!
Here’s to all of you who impart the best of yourselves to give to others!
Introduction
The poems assembled for this book are of diverse subjects and many of the verses may relate to each other only as poems. They blend many of the themes, concepts and experiences that cause individuals to share the human experience.
It is hoped that IMPRESSIONS will provide interesting reading and in some instances inspiration and information. The subjects and style are varied. Many of the poems contain rhyme and rhythm because those devices seem to appeal to many young readers. Also, a variety of reading levels are included because one level fits all does not apply to all readers of the same age group.
In the first section, Part One: The Individual, where specific characters
