    CHAPTER 1

Sally has worked for Big Lift Shipping, Salvage and Lumber Company for several years. She has learned to fly any of the 8 aircraft the company owns. She enjoys working on the planes and helicopters too. She is a big girl weighing in at well no need to say, and uses her strength when pulling on a big wrench. The other mechanics admire her determination and stick to witness. She isn’t one of the full-time mechanics but enjoys hanging around the hanger and knowing everything she can about all the planes. Sally grew up in California and likes to where short shorts and halter tops. She is a good-looking woman and sometimes when working on aircraft she gets grease on her bare skin around her very ample breasts. She doesn’t seem to mind and wipes it off and goes right on.

Although she is full of vim and vigor, she is dedicated to performing well with any job she’s assigned to. She likes people and even the grumps of them all get along well with her.

Sally at first wasn’t liked much by Rose, she thought Sally was too outgoing and sort of a sleazeball. Soon Sally proved herself and Rose had to reconsider her opinion.

Sally is flying down the coast in the Beech Craft Bonanza with spare parts for one of the big tugs. She should have been home an hour ago but there’s nothing from her. Mac is getting worried and calls her often on the company radio. Sally is a good pilot and there isn’t any weather problems and so she should be home by now.

Mac, This is Big Lift to Bonanza 123 Bravo, over.

Mac, Oh hell no answer, where can she be? Say has anyone heard from Sally?

Owen, doesn’t know and neither does Mat or Glen.

Mac, Big Lift to 123 Bravo come in please, over.

The day is drawing to a close and still no Sally or the plane that now appears to be missing. Mac decides to call the main office and find out what he should do about the missing plane.

    Mac, Hello, who’s this?

Carmen getting another of those bad feelings, Oh hay Mac, this is Carmen, what’s up?

Mac, "Oh shit, Carmen, Sally is missing with the Bonanza. She’s really late more than four hours now and no answer on any channel. The flight plan was filed alright and none of those guys no anything either. Do you think we should search for her? We can fly out from here with three of us. We can spread out while theirs some light and have a quick look until it gets dark.

Carmen, Oh that’s good yes please do that, and I’ll get a hold of Braidy or Jones where ever they are. You guys use the private radio channel we all use for keeping quiet please. And Mac call for anything and please every fifteen minutes. And Mac don’t get lost yourself.

Mac, oh no, no mam, we’ll be ok, we all fly good don’t you know.

Carmen, Well I thought that you said that Sally flies well too.

Mac, Well she does fly well, or is it good, well anyway she’s an excellent pilot of course because I taught her myself, don’t you know.

Carmen with a sigh, Well if that’s supposed to reassure me it doesn’t.

Mac, Well I think I’ve been insulted, maybe.

Carmen with a weary sigh, Oh hell Mac I’m sorry, feeling kind of tired don’t you know.

Mac, Oh that’s ok, we all are getting tired lately for some reason. Maybe it’s the day light saving time.

    CHAPTER 2

Sally is a very excellent pilot and has flown up and down the coast many times before. This time she has a companion with her. The kid is somewhere around 14 years old and has a very deadly gun that he uses to persuade her to fly south instead of north. He is a big kid but not as big as Sally. If it weren’t for that stupid gun, she could clean his clock for him. He where’s faded jeans and some sort of Tea shirt that use to say something but is now only a darker splotch on a gray white shirt. He has long hair that partially hides his gray eyes beneath a curtain of stringy black hair that looks like a rag mop. She tries talking with the lad but he is mean and threatens to shoot her in her breast if she doesn’t obey him. Sally is a brave woman but getting shot in her very ample breast wouldn’t be comfortable. She flies on following directions and tries to tell the jerk that they will need fuel soon. He doesn’t care, he points south and they fly over Catalina Island and on further south. Sally wonders if she can land on the water and get into a life jacket before the plane goes under. At this point she doesn’t care if the brat survives or not. She is getting mad and can’t wait to beat the shit out of this upstart. She throttles back slightly and leans the fuel mixture hoping to extend the range as much as she can. The Bonanza is a sweet plane to fly but she needs fuel to fly on. The young man is finally looking away from her breast she thinks and seems to be looking for something on the surface. Sally looks too and sees nothing. The kid forgets to aim his nasty gun whatever it is, and she almost decides to jump him. The trouble is, the plane needs her to pilot it

On the water just ahead now is a pontoon boat slowly heading south. The boat is large around 85 feet with two outboard engines hanging off the back. Those bad boys look to be at least 250 horse powered. The craft has a cabin and plenty of deck space. The boat appears to be completely empty. She is confused by that, how in the hell is it driving itself? She looks toward her passenger with a question. He is concentrating on something in his other hand, she wants so bad to ring his fat neck but can’t. She is nearly ready to just slam the plane into the water and take her chances but before she can he turns to her.

Kid, "Oh so can you land on the water?

Sally shrugging, Yes I can but only once.

Kid, I want you to land close to that boat down there.

Sally, Ok but we’ll have to get out fast, this plane won’t float forever.

Kid, Well it won’t matter to you, because I’ll blow those big tits off you before we hit the water.

Sally swallowing, Well if that’s what you want to do than why should I help you at all?

The Kid hadn’t thought of that, and decides to try and be nice. The effort is wasted on Sally, she knows what’s up with the slimy bastard. She tries to think and has sort of an idea. She can simply turn the plane and fly in the other direction away from the boat. The Kid can shoot her but he will never reach the boat or the ocean without being killed in the process. Sally doesn’t want to die but she won’t give up without a fight either.

Sally, Ok you slimy bastard, if you shoot me, I’ll shove the yoke forward and slam this plane into the water at over 200 Knots. You will be nothing but jelly.

Kid, You wouldn’t do that, you haven’t the guts.

Sally, looks at him with disgust, and shoves the yoke forward. The plane is nearly pointing straight down picking up speed. The altitude is less than five thousand feet and the sea is coming up fast. If she wants to pull out of the dive it needs to be soon. The Kid is screaming for her to stop! Sally knows she has him now and holds the yoke forward as long as she dares. Just before slamming into the ocean, she pulls back on the yoke with all her impressive strength. The Bonanza skims three feet above the water and the wind blows salt water all around. The plane is stressed to her max and she can feel something bending. The yoke is pulled back into her belly as far as it can go. The plane doesn’t want to climb, instead its barely staying above the waves. She is beginning to wonder if she broke a cable or something when finally, the ocean starts to go down beneath her. Of course, the ocean doesn’t settle down but the plane is rising. The Kid is white as a ghost and forgets to point the gun at her.

Sally looking over at him, So you little bastard do you want me to fly into the ocean?

Kid, You bitch, you did that on purpose.

Sally with a small grin, You bet I did, and I’ll do it for real if you don’t put that damn gun away.

Kid still shaking, Oh well, maybe it don’t matter anymore, the old man isn’t there anyway. He promised me he would be waiting on the boat for me, but he’s not there.

Sally, Well I don’t know about that, the problem is of course we don’t have enough fuel to make land. Because of you, we’re going to have to ditch.

Kid, Oh no, what do you mean?

Sally looking all around I think I can get us down ok, and this plane will float for a little while if we don’t crash upon landing. I have never landed on the water before but I have thought about it and we talked about it as well.

Kid with an almost sob, I don’t understand, he promised he’d be there for me, and he told me that landing a plane on the water was easy.

Sally isn’t without feelings looks at him with more concern. She is a real people person and tries to like everyone. She dares to reach out and touch him on the hand. At first, he pulls away but then takes her hand. He’s truly terrified and the gun is out of sight. She squeezes his big paw and returns her right hand to the yoke. She tries to remember the procedure for water landing. She knows she has to keep the nose up and come in as slow as possible. She remembers that she has to not lower the landing gear. She glances at the fuel gauge and is at first excited because the needle is pointing towards half a tank, but then it settles over towards empty. The big dive must have messed up the instruments. She looks over her left shoulder and spots the big boat. Somehow the kid has managed to stop it and the boat bobs in the gentle swells.

She can land near the craft and maybe they can swim to the pontoon at least and maybe the portable radio will survive. She than remembers to ask the kid to look for the portable radio behind his seat. The planes radio was destroyed by the young lad in a fit of passion. He really did a number on the damn thing, and there’s just no way it can be used for anything but a boat anchor. Oh well no reason to dwell on something she can’t do anything about. The Kid is stretching around looking behind him on the floor and everywhere. She suggests he look on a clip under his seat and he finds the small radio. She holds out her hand and he places it in her palm.

Sally, Bonanza 123 Bravo to Big Lift, over. Big lift here, is that really you Sally, over?

Sally, Yup it’s me, and we’re about to run out of fuel and we’re at the southern end of California. There is a pontoon boat below that we can climb aboard., over.

Big Lift, Janis here, oh good, we don’t have a location for you, over.

Sally, Oh never mind, the GPS isn’t working, we had a little problem with some of the electronics.

She is looking over at the Kid and he looks away. Sally than remembers to turn on the planes identifier that can be tracked by radio. Big Lift can hear the responder on the Bonanza and will be able to get at least an idea of where she is. The transponder was turned off because the Kid told her too. The Kid is terrified and looks like a pathetic little youngster instead of a big dangerous punk. She almost feels sorry for him but not quite.

    CHAPTER 3

At the Big Lift hanger, the guys are gathered around the radio and have been listening in. Mac says that distance is 1200miles or more and that plane is nearly empty by now. The plane is no longer new and probably won’t float like the manufacturer suggests that it should. The cabin isn’t as tight as it once was, and the water will come in fast. Mac likes this Sally and wants to help her.

Mac, Hello Sally, this is Mac, over.

Sally, on the portable radio, Oh hay Mac, I’m afraid I’m going to get your pretty plane all wet, over.

Mac swallowing, Oh hell Sal don’t worry about the plane, do you remember how to land on water, over?

Sally swallowing too, I think I do; I need to come in slow with the gear up and the nose high, over.

Mac, Yup you got it girl, you’re a good pilot and you can do it, over.

    Sally, Ok thanks Mac, over.

Carmen is listening in now and doesn’t say anything, she doesn’t talk unless she has something to say. Joe listens in too and wonders where Braidy might be. Good oh Braidy is running on the beach with good oh Jack. The little dog that was rescued off the Mary Joe decided to live on Barbra’s Island and would rather just take it easy. She loves to hang around the cook and help out as best she can. The little mutt isn’t into this security stuff so much.

Sally decides to land on the water while she has some fuel left. She can control the plane better with power. She instructs the Kid to tighten his seat belt as tight as he can and does her own. The Kid is looking sort of green and follows orders like a puppy. She lines them up and extends the flaps all the way. She leaves the gear up and slows the plane until its barely flying. She lets the plane settle rather than lowering the nose. She reduces power until the altitude decreases. She will close the throttle all the way before touch down. She takes her time and comes slow and low. The plane has been maintained well like all the planes and she responds nicely. She thought there was something wrong with the cable to the horizontal stabilizer but its ok. She looks over at her passenger briefly than back to flying. He is really looking scared and she wonders if she should grab the gun before he recovers but doesn’t have time now.

Sally brings it in nice and slow and keeping the nose up slides over the water and hardly makes a wave. The plane settles into the water like she was a sea plane. The problem is of course, no floats under this beautiful old girl. The Kid has a life jacket on his lap and she notices he has one for her as well. Maybe there’s hope for him yet.

The plane slows quickly and she shuts down everything and the silence is overwhelming. She motions for the Kid to check on his life jacket before forcing the door open. It’s too bad about the plane, she will go down soon. She climbs out on the left wing and urges the Kid to do the same. He comes across the flight deck and out the door she has opened. He has his life jacket over his neck but not completely fastened. She thinks about pulling the life raft out and at the last minute does. She sees the big boat and tells him to swim to the pontoon boat.

The water is warm and she worries about sharks having them for lunch. The distance is less than 200 feet and they should reach the pontoon boat without being invited for lunch.

Sally has kept the radio out of the water and she can hear people calling her. She sets the radio on the deck of the boat before climbing aboard. Sally gets a bad feeling from this boat, there’s something not quite right here.

Sally climbs on without difficulty, after all theirs a nice boarding ladder for those folks crazy enough to want to swim in shark infested waters.

The plane is still floating and she thinks if the plane can stay just like that it could be lifted out of the water by a sky crane. Sad to say however theirs a big bubble and she sinks into the ocean over the wings. The fuselage goes next than last the tale. The plane goes down in less than five minutes and Sally blinks back a tear. She isn’t sentimental but she has flown the plane for years and knows its strengths and weaknesses

Sally grew up near the water living in California. She never did much surfing but enjoyed the water anyway. She still has her life jacket on, and just for safety’s sake brings the life raft a board too. Big Lift buys the best of everything and so the life jackets and the raft are good quality. She notices that the kid can’t swim and is starting to panic. He needn’t worry, the life jacket holds him well out of the water. She decides to go back in the water to rescue him when he realizes that he won’t sink if he just lays back and does nothing She slips into the water and swims over to him and ties their life jackets together with a strap.

Sally, told him, good now you got it, just relax and I will pull you towards the boat. You don’t know how to swim do you?"

Kid, No I don’t, and how come you’re being so nice to me when I was ready to just waste you?

Sally, Oh well I’m just a softy, and maybe there’s some good in you after all. Theirs’s a boarding ladder on the back of the boat for swimmers to use and they climb on easily. The boat was moving along to the south just above idle, and the kid stopped it with that remote device he was holding in his left hand
