Chapter 1 : New Wheels
The school holidays were always met with much excitement and appreciation. How the days would play out all depended on what the report cards reflected. Good grades meant that the school holidays had good days. The parents were ecstatic and proud of their children. This paid off in favour of the children because their good grades meant rewards. Abigail and Silvia were to receive their first driving lessons, as promised by their parents. It was a joyous moment and a scary thought for both girls and their parents. From learning how to sit, crawl, stand, walk, ride a bicycle and now drive a car. The parents were always excited to teach the children something new, even with all the danger involved. Knowing that their parents would be beside them all the way through, made it more relaxing. Ralph got a new bicycle, but not like any other bicycle. This one was a classic black and grey vintage cruiser, that he had told his father about. The excitement was visible when he ran up and down the house a few times. He was in awe as he touched and analysed every part of the bicycle. It was perfect in every sense and he anticipated taking it for a ride. Mom and Dad were even more pleased knowing how much he appreciated his gift. Wesley got the pair of rugby boots that he had been talking about all season. He put them on and ran out into the yard to test them out, much to the excitement of his parents. He even did a little doot shuffle and some push ups to express his gratitude. Sydney got a new pair of roller skates like she had asked her parents for. She hugged and thanked her parents, who happily embraced her. It was either that or Ice skating so her parents made it special. Sinclair was surprised with a skateboard by his parents. He had shown some interest in skateboarding, so they decided to help him get started. It caught him off guard, which made the gift even more special to him. Jamal received a football kit of his favourite team, which was everything to him. He put it on and posed like all his idols on the team, whilst standing in front of his parents. His parents laughed in excitement at all his antics, as he even did the football celebrations, to test the fabric further. There was much excitement and appreciation in the families respective homes. Sleep didnt come easy as the children anticipated trying out their gifts. The day of Abigail and Silvia's first driving lesson arrived. Much to their excitement, anticipation and parent's fears. Ralph went out for a ride with Sinclair, who was sharpening his skateboarding skills. They decided to skate and ride down to the skate park in the neighbourhood. Riding and skateboarding down to the skate park with their new gifts, was the best feeling ever. They raced each other, exchanged their gifts to try them out and even towed
each other along. It was laughter, fun and adventure for the brothers. During these moments they would speak more about everything like they did when they were little. When they arrived at the skate park, they found a few other boys already there. This was the place were most of the young boys and girls would meet up. It wasn't always to skate but more like a meeting place. There were different groups of children there, almost like school at lunch break. Ralph and Sinclair went over to greet some of the boys whom they knew. They both showed their new gifts to the boys and they all got to talking. Back home, Abigail was eager to get her driving lessons started, but had to be patient. Dad had told her that they could only get started at midday, when there were no other cars on the street. Sydney spent the morning chatting to her friends over the phone, about her new roller skates. She even told them about how her sister was taking her first driving lesson. It was a long conversation that took up most of the morning. Mean while Silvia prepared for her lesson outside with her father. Abigail and her father pulled up in their car outside the house and Silvia went out to meet them. Silvia and Abigail's father's were both going to teach the girls how to drive. Silvia's mother and father came to greet Abigail and her father. After
