A White Rose - Yash Sharma
About The Author
My name is Yash Sharma and I am one of those smart guys who can jot down their thoughts in the form of words, which then form phrases, and then sentences, leading to paragraphs, pages, long chapters, and finally ending with a beautiful piece of art, a story. I believe writing and reading are one of those traits and characteristics of human nature and reality, that can never fade and will last forever.
He Left
Chapter – 1
Darius could see his daughter in tears. It was enough to make him feel meaningless and abandon himself, as he first failed to save his wife, and now it was his daughter’s turn to meet her beloved mother and embrace her own death.
He cried and kept on crying until Maya, his only daughter, opened her eyes, looked at him, and stuttered, F... F... Father...
.
This was enough to enlighten hope in the grief-stricken father. He looked at Maya with his eyes flooded with tears and shining brightly because of the light and said, Yes? Yes, my daughter? Father is here. Papa is here. Don’t leave Papa. Don’t leave your father... my daughter... my Maya.
Hearing this, Maya closed her eyes. The startling sight frightened Darius. He thought Maya left him, too.
He started crying.
But Maya wasn’t dead yet. With her eyes still closed, she said, A Rose. White one. I want it. Just one.
Darius looked at her innocent face and sobbed. He forced himself to stop crying, but his heart could not bear the sorrow. He pressed his lips, covered his face with his hands, and tried to hide his sorrow.
But he couldn’t.
After a long pause, Maya lifted her right arm and pointed at her mother’s picture on the yellow brick wall, and said, That... That one...
Upon hearing this, Darius was sad enough to not look at Maya anymore. He turned away to face his wife’s photo.
I will wait, father. And I hope you won’t take long. Just come before I go. This curse on the lands of us Elves can never be undone. We have lost hope. Leave this place, father. Bring me a flower, a white rose. That. That one,
she said, pointing at her mother’s picture again.
But my daughter, I can’t leave you in this state. You are but in no condition of doing anything. I cannot, never leave you alone like that. Never my daughter. You are all I have. I won’t leave you. I can’t!
Darius exclaimed dolefully.
Maya’s words came out garbled. Before you say that, remember, father, said what my mother, to you when she left. I never used the blessing gave me my mother, till now. But I believe the time has come. Just remember... her words...
Still sobbing, Darius wiped his nose and rubbed his eyes. He looked at Maya and stared until he could hear the voice of Teresa, his dead wife. It was his imagination and Maya’s words that
