My Funny Valentine: A Tribute to My Mother, Ann Sothern
()
About this ebook
As the daughter of a famous movie star, it was sometimes challenging to grow up in her enormous shadow. Who was I? I felt I had so much to live up to. How could I grow up and be as great a person as she?
Be that as it may, I did grow up and became my own person. I became an accomplished actress and a good person to others.
My Mother taught me to be strong. To be insightful and curious. To do what was right in the face of adversity that challenged most women of hers and my generation.
Thank you, Mom, for showing me your consistent strength and courage, your humor and your depth of character.
Love,
Your daughter,
Tisha

Preface
Shortly after December 10, 1944, my mother, Ann Sothern, wrote a rather lengthy piece for a movie magazine: " A Valentine to My Beautiful Daughter Tisha ." It was a letter to me, expressing her love, hopes, and dreams for me. Included were the first pictures of us together, me in her arms, and photos of the whole family, including my father, actor Robert Sterling. I still have the article. Some years later, after my mother’s death in 2001, as I was sorting through the huge trunks full of photographs,
