Bobo The Gazelle
An epic poem written by
Kmac El Bey
In the African Savannah, and luscious grasslands
From the Congo to the Sabi Sands
The cycle of life flows just like the sea
Mating season has came to be
A pregnant doe is ready to conceive
Her sisters cover her front and rear
Tension and fear fill the atmosphere
But it all withered away, Bobo The Gazelle is here!
Such a small child, everyone stared bemused
Such a happy child, he looked at everyone amused
His mama cleaned her baby with a smile on her face
And said encouraging words as he stood on his hind legs
His father was the head bachelor of the bunch
But poor little Bobo came out as a runt
Before he could see his child he became a cheetah’s lunch
Now his legacy lives on through his son.
Bobo had a hard time keeping up with the herd
His clumsiness to everyone was absurd
No one wanted to play when he came around
The other younglings mocked his abnormal sounds
The elders saw Bobo as a disgrace
But his mother always had a smile on her face
Always embracing him with kisses and hugs
Mama Gazelle gave him a special place for love.
Time passes and children grow
But Bobo’s growth seemed to be slow
How to run straight, he did not know
In every situation he seemed to do wrong
Bobo The Gazelle was with the herd
Grazing alongside wildebeest
But hidden within the swaying grass and ready to eat
Lionesses were on the creep.
Now the wildebeest and gazelle had a pact
Because wildebeest sensory skills were wack
They allowed the gazelle to eat by their side
As long as they could detect an incoming pride
After subtle movement in the grass, the alarm was sounded
Everyone scurried and Bobo looked astounded
Naïve Bobo thought the wildebeest were just having fun
Until Mama shouted from afar, RUN BOBO RUN!!
A lioness had Bobo in her sight
Bobo turned around and ran for his life
He stumbled to the left, he stumbled to the right
Then crashed into a wildebeest also full of fright
They both tripped up and fell to the ground
On top of the wildebeest the lioness pounced
It was a big meal for the bloodthirsty pride
Bobo watched sorrowed with tears in his eyes.
He apologized as the wildebeest took its last breath
Then was threatened to leave by the pride before he ended up next
