Those Who Thirst - Nikki Frost

    Prologue:

The sweltering heat faded into the tropical night, as the moon began to tuck into the tropical sky and allow the slow sun to rise. Neon street signs remained flashing, yet lit. The sticky substance of flavoured spirits and dirty liqueurs smeared the pavements, tracing a path to the notorious Papà Del Sur - one of the many strip clubs situated on the west side of Tijuana. Beneath the greasy poles and stained floors lay a murky basement, a basement in which Jimmy Sampson lay captive.

Mounted by rope and metal to a rusty wall, hands gripping together forming sweat beads in the seams of his fingers, Jimmy hung, swinging, like a joint at a Texas meat market. The all-to-familiar stench of blood filled his nostrils as he heard the sound of someone, or something, approaching.

‘Who’s there?’ Jimmy shouted frantically from the pit of his lungs, leaving his voice rendered.

Judging purely by sight, the room appeared to be empty, but Jimmy knew better. There were misshapen figures lurking in the dark. The closer the silhouettes approached, the faster his heart began to palpitate filling his mind with thoughts of his family back home in California.

Had he been able to scream, Jimmy would have screamed a lot through that dawn, but then again, screaming was useless.

    Chapter 1:

    Soda. It was soda.

Clinging to the leather seat in the back of his precious 04’ Camaro, was a sticky substance that made the vehicle retch.  Grabbing hold of a cloth, Carlos began to vigorously wipe at the slowly spreading stain on the leather. His phone rang, causing him to jump and knock over the solution.

    Shit. Sorry....,Hello?

Carlos, my man, you ready? I’ve just finished packing; what time will you get here? Noah shouted down the phone, probably slicking back his hair with gel at the same time.

Give me at least an hour Noah, I still have to clean out the shit you spilt in the back of my car last week

But we need to hit the highway before noon or we’ll never arrive in Ol’ Mexico! Noah chortled at his own joke.

Without saying goodbye, Carlos hung up, throwing the cloth and the phone
