About this ebook

I'd been looking for love on all the wrong planets…

I was only trying to find a sexy alien to date. Was that wrong?

The idea of a hunk with extra arms or tail made me warm all over even on the coldest nights on this miserable planet.

It was supposed to be a speed-dating-universe event. But instead of snuggling with a toasty alien in my bed, I woke up in a jail cell.

My cellmate was hunky all right, except he acted like he hated me.

Add in that our captors said we must mate or be beaten, and the idea of suddenly forced alien exploration didn't sound so good.

    Angel Captive - J.S. Wilder

    1

    Riley

Aharsh acrid smell of burning copper choked me. I had seconds before the old computer was burnt beyond repair.

Oh, shit. I yanked the plug out. Fuck, I must have configured the necessary ampage wrong and my homespun battery pack was too much voltage.

Problems, Riley? Jeryl smirked from the other side of the warehouse.

Not at all. I gave him my best fake smile, then went back to work. If I’d fried this computer I was going to scream, and my boss would probably dock my pay. So many extra-terrestrials were interested in old human tech. For me, it was nostalgic, and I liked tinkering with gadgets despite being the only woman in this shop. Which brought up memories of my mom and how she did whatever she could for me not to have to work at a young age, including whoring herself out. I shoved the pain back into the storage closet in my brain. Didn’t need to breakdown at work.

How’s that new dating app going? Jeryl teased.

Fine. Wasn’t going to admit that I’d been on eight dates with aliens and none of them had sparked anything in me reminiscent of any the chemistry with me like I’d read about in the old romance novels. Love was something elusive to me and I wanted it. Wanted to be swept off my feet and my heart pounding and all of that. But I was approaching thirty at warp speed and it didn’t look like it was going to happen.

I need to reconfigure the voltage, that’s all. Hopefully, it wasn’t anything more problematic like the battery being too old and starting to swell. Didn’t need an explosion or fire. Carefully, I examined the damage. Not too bad, just have to replace the CTR and some other parts. First, I needed to make sure it wasn’t still pulling a charge because being electrocuted with a high voltage shock wasn’t my idea of a good time.

Jeryl tinkered on an old plasma TV, his spider-like arms, as a half-breed Minbari, were able to squeeze into small spaces, not to mention having six of them. I had to work three times as hard to keep up with him.

Have you heard from Diana? I asked, innocently. Jeryl prided himself on being a matchmaker on the side and set up our coworker on a space-cruise blind date. Why she agreed was beyond me. Who wants to be stuck in space with a stranger for a week?

She sent a message this morning. He beamed. And is having a wonderful time. When you going to let me set you up next?

No thanks. I don’t like anyone enough to be around them 24/7 or for longer than a weekend. I shuddered. And what if I hated the person, then what? Only takes me about a minute in person to know if me and someone else clicks.

A minute, huh? He rubbed his pointed chin thoughtfully, his multiple eyes blinking at me. What about speed dating?

Never thought to try it. I wasn’t going to admit to Jeryl that I was super curious now. Though, if I did meet someone special, Jeryl would gloat and add me to his growing roster of matches made. Then again, what did I have to lose? I decided I’d check it out on my terms later.

I need another drink before I do this. I poked at the ice in the bottom of my whiskey glass with my thin straw.

Oh, come on. Melody fluffed her blonde hair, looking around the room like she expected to see a movie star. It wasn’t hard to convince you to do this sexy alien speed-dating thing with me.

You’re right. I waved to the bartender for another drink. My mouth was dry as my love life lately. Not going to let what happened in the office with the near equipment fire bum my night. Besides, it’s the weekend and time to have fun.

She patted me on the back. Yes. Fuck James and that stupid company who can’t see your worth.

James is old news. If I never heard his name again it would be too soon. Guy had a wife, and I wasn’t the only girlfriend he collected. I dropped him faster than light speed.

Oh, I’m so sorry. She gave me a sideways hug. I’ve been swamped with trying to pay my bills after my company cut our pay that I didn’t even know.

No biggie. I shrugged. Have you tried to get another job?

Yeah, working on a side hustle to pay the difference.

The bartender handed me my replacement drink and I nodded my thanks.

Hey, I don’t want to talk about work, we’re here to have fun. She lifted her glass. Here’s to finding a gorgeous guy and having an amazing one-or-two-night stand.

Melody, I blushed, but I clinked my glass to hers. My sex life had dried up more than the desserts on Zensuym. I gulped the liquor down and fire burned a path down my throat. This would all be worth it for getting my freak on. Tentacles, extra arms, or other body parts, I was so in.

If the participants would line up, a woman with a smoker’s voice said from the end of the bar, we’ll start in the next room in a minute, please have your name tag and papers ready.

Oh God, I’m really doing this. I squeezed Melody’s hand, then slurped out the last drop of whiskey from my glass before walking with her to the private meeting room.

What if we get picked up in some alien’s personal harem? Like a filthy rich one?

If you’re into that, I guess. Nope, not me. I only wanted a one-night stand, or maybe even a two-night stand if things went well, to cherish forever. And hey, if the guy was sexy enough, I would consider finding my soulmate with an alien. Though no one who knew me would be surprised. While all the other geek girls were wigging out on the human actors in Sci-Fi movies, I was drooling over the alien ones like Spock from the old Star Trek shows or Drax from the Earth movies, Guardians of the Galaxy

Badge? A woman dressed in a black suit gestured the first woman forward.

I looked through our line, only women. Were there no men who wanted to hook up with a hot alien chick? I counted eleven including me and Melody.

Next, badge? The woman sounded bored; like she’d rather be doing anything than checking us in.

When mine and Melody’s turn came, I handed her both of our paperwork. It was standard stuff. If we’d been married, if we were okay with dating an alien, and the results of a sexual test they’d wanted performed before allowing us to come here. Guess even aliens had to practice safe sex. I giggled at my own joke. Several women around me glared. Okay, maybe I shouldn’t have had that third drink.

The woman looked over our paperwork and frowned. Whoa, which one is Melody?

That’s me. My friend beamed. I’m just so excited to be here that I—

It says here in your list of surgeries you had an emergency hysterectomy?

Well, yes. I had a partial because of endometriosis—

I’m sorry, but you can’t compete. Her reptilian face darkened to a muted green color.

What? I asked, sticking up for my friend. That’s bullshit, just because of something she couldn’t control?

Riley, it’s fine. She tugged on my arm.

Then I’m not doing this either. I turned away.

Riley Morgan? the woman asked with excitement lacing her voice.

Come on, we’re leaving. I stalked toward the exit.

I’m sorry, I made a mistake. The woman ran after us, stepping in front of me. Her reptilian eyes wide and darting around like she was afraid. You’re right. Absolutely right. Of course, your friend can participate. I-I was mistaken.

What the hell? I shook my head at the emotional whiplash of this woman.

Please, please come and see the candidates. I-I’ll even give you a free pass on a hotel for the weekend.

Melody nudged me with her elbow, and I looked at her, I couldn’t say no to the pleading in her bright green eyes.

Fine, but if anyone treats my friend like crap, we’re leaving after I chew them out.

The woman nodded her head so fast and furiously I worried she’d injure herself. Melody and I took our seats next to each other. Hushed whispers between the woman and someone on the other side of the door had me debating leaving. I searched the room for any other weirdness and counted eleven women including me and Melody and twelve pairs of chairs with a small table between each. I shrugged it off to the reason she changed her mind so quickly was there wasn’t enough women for the alien men coming.

Thanks for sticking up for me back there. Melody’s nervous smile twisted my heart for my friend, and I hoped she'd find her soulmate too.

I gave her a reassuring squeeze despite the unease trailing a cold finger down my spine.

    Xaden

Ipunched my fists against the stone walls of my prison until my knuckles bled and my healing magic felt like shards of ice as it tried to stitch my wounds back together. Dovrikxing Roulex. They were a plague to my people and trapped us in our mountain home. I had been captive here in their stinky prison ever since they captured me on the battlefield.

My wings ached and I stretched them out, grunting when the tendons stretched too far. It would take another day or two of healing for them to recover.

I paced in the small cell; the dankness clogged my throat. How different from the flower cups covering this area with their sweet, floral scent before the Roulex came here and tainted every dovrikxing thing they touched with their Simitar

A female voice chuckled from the barred door. Are you willing to submit now? Sofria cupped her naked breasts and ice squeezed my throat. Her wings were smaller than mine and we both knew they were decoration only.

Spare me the disguise, I know what you are.

Oh, do you prefer this species rather than your own? She morphed into a human with big breasts.

I ran to the bars, banging into them with my body as I reached through to choke her.

She jumped back with a scream, then shook her head. Xaden. All you have to do is mate with me or another female of your choosing and you can leave.

Never going to happen. I pushed back from the bars. The Roulex wanted offspring to do experiments on and discover the power of my people’s rapid healing. I couldn’t let them get their scaly claws on that ability. They were hard enough to fight as it was, which was why our kind had built a protective dome around our mountains to keep us safe. But it was a prison just as this Simitarhole was.

Oh, don’t be like that, Sofria cooed. We both know you secretly like me. Why else would you have swooped from your one chance of escape from this place to rescue me?

I ground my teeth so hard, pain splintered up my jaw. Sofria had pretended to be one of my people, stuck in a net with Roulex tugging her away. After all I had endured in this hellhole, there was no way I would leave an innocent behind. There’d only been three Roulex and I took them down easy enough. What I hadn’t counted on was her being a shapeshifter and jabbing me with something that froze all my limbs in place. Even my wings wouldn’t work.

She tapped her chin with a reptilian claw. You know, my ruse with you worked so well, I think it might be time to try it again and closer to your mountain home. She morphed into a male of my species. Maybe lure out one of your precious females.

My roar echoed through the cell as I dove for her again. This time, my fingers dug into the skin of her arm and I yanked her to me before she could scream. The bars vibrated as she struck them. Her eyes widening in alarm.

Please, don’t hurt me, she whimpered, her black eyes pleading and full of terror. They made me do it. I can help you escape.

Lies. I could smell her fear and an underlying scent of falseness. All of us Angeliminir healed quickly, but some had one extra gift, like the ability to heal others or in my case, smell when someone’s words were a lie. Of course, I had to be super close to them like this. Close enough to smell their breath. Close enough to smell the chalky taste of the lie.

I’ve never lifted a finger or wing against any female, no matter her species. I squeezed her neck harder. But I’d gladly make an exception for you.

    Help— she choked out.

Good, call the guards. I boasted. Let’s see if they can save you in time.

    Footsteps thundered down the hallway.

Sofria clawed at my hand. I wasn’t going to kill her, no matter how badly I wanted to. Just needed the guards to get close enough…

My gaze darted to the Roulex rushing straight at us. One raised his forcefield weapon at me, and I thrust Sofria
