Crazy Kipper And The Magic Hat - Francis Smith
Introduction
Mother Earth has circled the sun over 90 million times through the stardust of space since the first kippers appeared in the mighty oceans. They lived side by side with all creatures; their numbers were as many as the grains of sand on the largest of the beaches, but over the course of the last few hundred years humans have pursued them, and all the creatures living on land and in the sea have suffered greatly; some already gone forever, some near extinction. The humans do not seem to understand that Earth was not given to them – it was given to all of us. Not to destroy it but to take care of it, to love it, protect it. This is our only home! We have nowhere else to go, but the humans are not listening! This is the story of Crazy, the mightiest of kippers who was born to save the world and educate the humans before it’s too late.
A picture containing star, sky, light Description automatically generatedA stormy night
It was a stormy night.
The sky was black, not a star in sight,
and the wind blew the colour of the brightest of white.
At the bottom of the sea,
next to a coral shaped like a tree.
In a hole that went deep with a turn and a twist,
was the home of the kippers, the last to exist.
One more was born on a blanket of sand,
a wonderful gift to the Great Kipper Clan.
He was the beautiful son of Fred and of Joyce,
in these days of need, it was a time to rejoice.
There were cheers of joy, for the new kipper boy,
this clan was the last in existence,
the rest taken away, to the heavenly bay,
that starry old place in the distance.
There were now seven in the clan,
the rest ‘kipnapped’ by man,
to fulfil their desire and greed,
‘those on the top’,
they will never give up,
always taking much more than they need.
‘What will be his name?’
Grandpa Arthur cried out.
The clan went silent,
but there would be no doubt.
Joyce said softly,
‘Crazy will be his name’.
A picture containing food, yellow, covered, school Description automatically generatedGrandpa Arthur
Grandpa Arthur was the wisest fish in the sea,
there was no one as clever as he.
He would teach all the kippers all that he knew,
to survive in the ocean, he knew what to do.

is a magic you can see,
calculate, accumulate,
it all makes sense to me.
Numbers have a magic,
a hidden sacred code,
lost within the 3-6-9,
there’s a secret to behold.
Just use your eyes to find the prize,
the answer’s there to see,
the goal we seek is everywhere,
an energy that’s free’.

Grandma Mary, had to be scary,
to keep all the kippers in line,
they would follow her round, old Kipper Town,
keeping in rhythm and time.
But her heart was as pure
as an angel’s soul,
if a kipper had a problem,
it’s to her they would go.
‘Don’t worry about the past’ she’d say,
‘the future we don’t know’,
and all the kippers’ problems,
would melt away like snow.
Uncle Blaze
Uncle Blaze was a fearless fish,
it was once said that he had visited land,
‘The place where humans dwell is not for fish’
he would often tell the clan.
He swam along the sandy shore,
one bright and sunny day,
looking for trouble, with his head in a muddle,
to make the humans pay.
He saw a man on the sand,
sitting on a chair,
he had a fish on a dish,
wriggling in despair.
He took the fish from the dish,
now dangling in his hand,
then banged his head on a rock,
