About this ebook

World War II brought out the best in volunteerism and Robert Brodersen, "Brodie", was a prime example of the tens of thousands who went. He just happened to keep a diary of his 37 missions as a B-17 pilot in the 336th squadron of the 95th Bomb Group in Horham England in 1944, which opened a whole new light on the man our father was.

    Robert J. Brodersen

    Fulfilled by: Sara Brodersen Cameron

This book is one of a kind and it's filled with stellar first-hand description of events that happened during the World War II. It is the kind of book that you don't want to put down as it captures the depths of your soul. The military history was spectacular and readers are being kept in a wave of understandable level of enthusiasm through its tactical level of writing. Totally recommending this book to everyone, it's powerful and engaging!

    - Allison D. Steeley

I can say, it's a story that's needed to be written in history books. It offers readers a new sense of perspective of what really happened during World War II. Readers will get a good dose of what it's like to be in a combative set-up during a war. The introspective, personal account in the storyline is such an eye-opener which is totally relevant to the current issues of today. I'm giving this book five-stars!

    - George Oliver A. Grahame

Strongly recommending this book without reservations! It's a must for those military buffs and readers who are into combat aviation and military cultures. For me, I find this book to be truly persuasive and this memoir exposes the trials and tribulations a soldier has to face in the midst of a war. It's a gripping firsthand account from a soldier's family, and I admired the writing. The book's message is unflinching and so powerful, you should try reading it!

    - Seymour T. Edstrom Jr.

The act of patriotism is highlighted in the story. If given the right audience, this book deserves to be made into a movie, surely, it's a blast! The author offers one of the most soaring definitions of what it means to SERVE YOUR COUNTRY. This is the story that we all need right now, it's life-changing and should remain as a constant reminder for us to always dream for greatness. This book will forever have a place in my heart.

    - Charlemagne D. Ackerman

Such an inspiring story about a man and his determination and persistence to realize his dreams and fight for the honor of his beloved country. The book is filled with great adventures and honestly, I was having a hard time putting it down. The incredible journey of a patriotic man should be shared to the whole world. Going to war is just the easy part, I've learned that coming home to your loved ones is the hardest part of all.

    Introduction to Missions of War

In this second edition of Robert J. Brodersen’s Diary of Missions, we, the children of Robert would like to include a bit of his life before and after the missions. We hope to share what led up to his stint in the Army and some of his personal life.

Robert James Brodersen was born May 27th, 1921 to James and Sadie (Cameron) Brodersen, the youngest of six children. The eldest was half-sister May Brodersen Van Valin, followed by 3 brothers, Riley, Charles, Malcolm, sister, Harriet Ruth (died from scarlet fever at age 3), and then Robert. All were born on the family farm, homesteaded by his Grandfather Rasmus Brodersen, 7 miles southwest of Herman, in east central Nebraska.

Bob attended Brodersen School through 8th grade, just up the road from home. Grandpa Rasmus had donated some land for the school, as many settlers did, hence its name. Bob always said the main disadvantage to living so close to school was that his family would provide the teacher room and board. This meant there were no school secrets kept from his parents, and trouble at school meant trouble at home! He attended grades 9 and 10 at New England Country School and graduated from Herman High School in 1938.

Bob was reportedly a bit mischievous as a boy and always enjoyed a good laugh. He talked many times about his favorite pony, which he often he rode to his best friend Sonny Rogert’s house. One crisp morning, as he and Sonny drove his pony and cart to school, the cart upset when they took the New England corner too fast. Teacher Miss Elsie Wilson, rushed to see if they were all right. Bob stayed on the ground, according to Miss Wilson. He didn’t want to get up. She was afraid he was injured, but when he finally got up, was noted
