INTRODUCTION

A close up of a logo Description automatically generatedI
WROTE THIS tiny book 30 years ago when my children were babies. This story flew out of my own heart, a wild bird that landed on these pages, as a way for my son and daughter to learn about what is truly important in life.
If there was ever a time to talk about kindness, friendship, sacrifice, love, and courage, it is now.
This isn't just a book for children but a story that should also make you remember what is really important. Just think, if the birds can do it, so can I!
I really believe animals, especially birds, have souls. How can you not be filled with the wonder of creation and life when you see a Hummingbird, a Goose, a Cardinal, any bird at all, dancing toward the clouds, where I know the Great Bird Gods are whispering to them.
We can hear whispers from up there too. But we must pause to listen and open our hearts.
Be kind. We are all neighbors and part of one amazing human family.
Always,
Kris Radish
Legend has it that tiny hummingbirds sometimes lodge themselves behind the wings of majestic geese during migration.
Native Americans tell the story often and they know the secrets of the sky are always visible to those with open hearts.

The tiny Hummingbird, his fragile wings rustling in the fast air, decided this was a day to fly higher than he ever had before. It was early fall and the air, even high up, was still warm, still soothing to the body of a bird that weighed only a feather more than the wind it sailed on.
He played in the wind for a while, letting it drift across his back through his magnificent colors, and over his feathery wings. When the currents moved through his thimble-light head in short, gusty, waves the small bird knew that it was time to challenge the sky. This was the day for him to soar out of the sight of earth, higher maybe than any bird had ever soared, beyond the limits others had set for him.
The bird was alone. He was one of the most beautiful Hummingbirds in the area and his good looks set him apart from the rest. Many other birds, impressed by his stunning colors, thought he was aloof. Indeed, the bird was a beauty. His red head and crown were of a color no other birds had ever seen and his fellow birds thought he was magical. His neck was bright
