Chapter I
Reflections
C:\Users\sandya\Downloads\20200208_152514.jpgReflections in Lockdown
Missing the early morning hassle of a lifetime
I sit by the open window-gazing out with nostalgia,
As pink & gold colors splash across the grey sky-
Lifting the dark veil from the face of Mother Earth,
Listening to bird songs floating in the breeze
Thinking of how to fill the day from morn to dusk
After the well organized life has been confused
By the lock down of the country- until Corona subside
Weary of the stories of heroism & selfishness of humans
I sit by the same window-soothing the restless spirit
Watching the beautiful moon ride dark clouds
Leaving a silvery trail below-on the lake beyond
With a contented mind- and a peaceful heart
Realizing my duty to humanity is fulfilled today
And will wake up to welcome another day
As lovely as today-To work, enjoy and cherish!
Nature’s best gift-Fragrance
Inhaling the fresh crisp air, I walk slowly
On the grass-sparkling with dew drops in sunshine
Under the trees flanking the path-on barefoot
Musing over the busy life of bygone time
It was the regular journey for many years
From the house to the road-each morning
Looking straight ahead -thinking of work
In a hurry to reach the journey’s end
A golden carpet appeared, suddenly at my feet
Sweet pungent scent enveloping the soul
Looking up, I saw thousands of golden lanterns-
Hanging above-resembling a canopy of Gold
The blooms of Ehela
Tree-I planted decades ago
And forgotten in the busy life-has come alive
Rewarding the world with its amazing gift
Making my soul dance with happiness
The freshness of the early morning air,
Not yet disturbed by human activity
A whole new experience to feel the glory of-
Nature -I have missed in the busy life!
Beginning of a Pandemic
It’s in the news on Thirteenth March 2020
Schools are closed-No more flights from Europe
No gas in stations-people stocking food like mad
Everyone in panic-The almighty corona has arrived!
The younger brother of SARS, MERS & EBOLA
Born in Wuhan- China-just three months old,
Failing to pull down –The Dragon to its knees
Had the superlative West on its hold!
United States ready with three Billion to fight sickness
Before it came to doorstep-while China struggled alone,
Woke up suddenly to realize they forgot to stock up,
Face masks and toilet paper before China was closed,
Isolated and abandoned by the World- Fearing the spread of Corona,
China humbly appealed to tiny Sri Lanka- Not to maltreat its people,
Lovely example of humility and empathy-in the hearts of brethren,
Overcame the adversity in two months-to learn the West has succumb,
Xi-Jinping, sailed through the struggle-with signature half smile
While the hopping and jumping trio- went around insulting and bragging,
Ready to bully Sri Lanka on human rights this month-until they realized they are doomed
Trump subdued, Trudeau in house arrest-Johnson where art
