美南新聞自一九七九年六月十六日創刊迄今，整整三十六個年頭，我和所有的工作夥伴把最珍貴的時光奉獻給傳媒事業，記得我的老上司著名媒體人張繼高先生曾說過，新聞行業我們每天都得比賽一次，沒有任何行業更比這行更具挑戰性。

作者有幸出生在二戰之後也更慶幸移居美國，過去數十年間，從大國冷戰結束到中國崛起，數位時代帶來之衝擊，地球暖化對氣候造成之變化物質文明對人類之極大影響。記得美國參議員格蘭曾經說過：只要我們走Walmart大賣場，我們都會體認到當今物質之豐沛。

媒體事業是為多元社會不斷記錄歷史，為社會伸張正義，為弱勢者吶喊，為社會提昇能正量，三十年來我們收藏的美南新聞原版報紙，大約有兩大卡車之多，已經贈送給休斯頓萊斯大學圖書館收藏。作者再次翻看那些己褪色變黃之舊報時，澎湃之心境激勵我們要繼續在新聞最前線奮戰不懈。

H1N1 Vaccine Finally Arrives

On Wednesday, a large shipment of H1N1 vaccine made it to the Texas State Health Department by the thousands of doses, bundled by the hundreds and eclipsed the initial shipment expectations.

The State health department has steered the vaccine initially to providers who treat pregnant women and toddlers. Heath care workers with direct contact with patients also got early doses. Those people are part of priority groups identified by the federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention this past summer.

The City of Houston Health Department has received more than 17,000 doses as of Wednesday. Vaccinations began at 9:00 am at ten city health clinics. The doses are available on a first-come, first-served basis, but half of the doses are reserved for pregnant women and those younger than 18 with medical condition.

Director of the CDC, Dr. Thomas Frieden said that 22.4 million doses of the vaccine were available as of Tuesday. The agency expects to have at least 50 millions doses on hand by the end of this month.

Frieden also stressed that, 'We are all frustrated that we don't have more vaccine available at this time.

So far, 19 people have died from confirmed cases of H1N1 complications in the Houston area.

Chinese Create Jobs in Michigan

Troy, Michigan, the car capital of the world, is the auto parts maker Delphi Corporation's headquarters. It's a place where the phrase, Buy American is right at home.

Due to the weak economy and a slack in sales, Delphi is selling the unit to a Chinese company named Shougang Corporation. The 3,000 employees of Delphi's parts unit are getting a new boss with its base in China.

Shougang is a major steel maker in China. It marches down the globalization road and wants to be a big player in the world's economy. Especially in these days, when everyone's so desperate for cash, if the Chinese show up at the door with a checkbook, many people are ready to say yes, please.

The United States is China's biggest trading partner and America bought Chinese goods worth $338 billion last year. At the same time, the Chinese government is Washington’s biggest creditor with more than $800 billion invested in U.S. government debt. President Obama has assured Chinese President Hu Jinto that Washington will cut its budget to keep the U.S. economy healthy.
