Marvin Martin is a man on a mission. Throughout his career, in intelligence, high-tech industry, and cutting-edge education, Marvin has been on a mission to make this world a better place through STEM knowhow: Applied Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. An avid disciple of Albert Einstein, Martin has applied real-world principles of relativity and quantum mechanics to life. Education has become a true passion, whether in years committed to special education of our most vulnerable children, or now, in making Christian education the preferred choice of families.
Marvin spent most of his life outside the religious world until a miracle happened in his life. After suffering an untreatable injury, following a hands-on blessing and prayer by a Carmelite monk, God fully restored his ability to speak. All trace of injury, the result of work-related poisoning of his vocal cords, growths and discoloration disappeared. Marv then began serving God and experiencing God always at work in our world. Influenced by the Holy Spirit, Marv time-and-again demonstrated that quantum mechanics and relativity are revelations of God through nature, confirming our existence is impossible without the fine tuning,
by design, of a Creator working at invisible atomic and universal levels.
I was board chair and my wife, Anna, a teacher at the San Gabriel Academy, a K – 12 Seventh-day Adventist Christian institution. Marvin, as a professor of education, had established a pilot STEM program at several Christian schools. His education content was unique. UCLA and USC brain researchers recognized his work as closing the gaps between brain research and classroom practice. It also shows the harmony between Scripture and science.
Our principal, Paul Negrete, brought Marvin to our academy as STEM program manager, well-funded to develop a state-of-the art science laboratory plus, while mentoring teachers, a unique curriculum, content and method of delivery.
A big thank you to Professor Martin for giving us the sublimely powerful serendipity that God is still at work, revealing Himself to us every day. As well as objectively, and I mean factually confirming the truth in the creation timeline, confirming the truth, the fine-tuning of the fabric of the universe is inexplicable as happenstance, and confirming the truth, that designed with free will, we are fundamentally, biologically sinners in need of the grace of our Savior.
It is my hope and prayer that you will read this book with an open mind while questioning everything therein, and through it discover how God is continuing to reveal Himself to us all through His creation.
Introduction
God is our Creator. Logically, it follows, there is no difference between science and Scripture. We just need to figure it out. And we do. The Bible stands alone. No matter what has been said or written about it, nothing can be added or taken away. The revelation of Scripture is subject to revision by only the God who inspired it.
You hold in your hands two very important things in one volume. The first is objective proof of the congruency of science and Scripture. The second is a prescription for a brain research-based change in education, including a brain research-driven curriculum, content and method of delivery. Its adoption will differentiate Christian education in a way that restores it as the faithful’s preferred choice among education options.
The congruency of science and Scripture addresses (1) Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity, at the universal scale embodying objective truth of the six day creation timeline, (2) Quantum theory, at the atomic scale, embodying objective proof that the fine-tuning of creation is the work of a Creator, who can know our prayers, and (3) Biochemistry, at the neuro-psychological scale, embodying objective proof that we are all inherently sinners, in need of and thankful for our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Concerning Christian education, this volume reveals the inner beauty of our brain’s design, including: (1) God’s gift of elegant learning, recollection and decision-making processes, and (2) how the revelation of His design can be applied to close the gap between brain research and classroom practice, while clearly differentiating Christian education from all other, using K-12 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education as an example.
Scripture is eternal, but its revelations were first given to a population whose understanding was in a context of the world as given to them by their senses. Today, understanding is honed by technology that allows us to peer into the vastness of both the universe and the sub-atomic depth of matter and life. Against this background, the Holy Spirit has guided my writing to objectively align science with Scripture.
About the Author
Marvin Martin received B.S. and M.S. Degrees from New York University’s College of Engineering. He was one of two among 300 entering engineering majors admitted to the college’s Engineering Science program. Engineering Science is a combined engineering, physics, and mathematics major, including interdisciplinary, total systems engineering. By the time he earned his bachelors’ degree, under contract to industry as a technical writer, he published two rocket systems books, the launch checkout and troubleshooting procedures for the Atlas Satellite Launching Rocket, and then the Polaris Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile.
He holds the nation’s Intelligence Medal of Merit for technical and management contributions, to the development of cost-effective, space-based reconnaissance satellite systems, and was selected for the Nation’s Independent Research & Development Roll of Honor, as principal investigator on the Advanced Military Spacecraft for the Space Shuttle Era project. His papers on supersonic aerodynamics and aeromechanics solved major problems causing launch failures of the Thor-Agena rocket, one of the nation’s first satellite launch systems.
Concern for the environment is reflected in his work as director of the U.S. Pilot Program for Total Effluent Management in the Mid-Atlantic states, Pennsylvania through Tennessee. His application of environmental experience to education is recognized by a citation from NASA, three grants from energy giant BP, and the A+ For Energy Award presented to him by the elected California State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Prior to adopting education as a second career, Marvin managed the development of the artificial intelligence system, the brain, for the space-based Strategic Defense Star Wars
initiative. Based upon its success during extensive government testing, Marv was invited to the White House to brief the program to the president’s Scientific Advisory Group.
Credentialed in both special education and secondary science education, he was appointed as Visiting Professor at Christian faith-based La Sierra University, where he has succeeded in applying brain research to education. Researchers at both USC’s and UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institutes cite his work as closing the gap between research and classroom practice. His 8-volume STEM science program is currently being pilot tested in California at the San Gabriel SDA Academy, a faith-based K-12 school. His contributions to education are recognized by special citations presented by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the California State Assembly, and California State Senate. This publication demonstrates the truth of Professor Martin’s conviction, God is Creator and there can be no difference between science and Scripture. Encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it closes gaps between Gospel and science.
Marv is an experienced manager, having occupied executive positions in high-tech industry, as director of advanced studies at a Fortune 500 company and, in government, as Chief of the Central Intelligence Agency’s Analysis Division. In awarding the Intelligence Medal of Merit, the CIA cited the Agency’s major area of progress to be in the field of analysis, and Marv to be an engineer of that progress, as an analyst and as a manager, doubling the size of CIA’s Analysis Division without loss of competence. Following his tour of duty at CIA, he went on to head a super-secret intelligence think-tank, supporting the President and national security apparatus. Thereafter, by arrangement with the State Department, Marv accepted an appointment in Europe, leading the successful intelligence effort associated with freeing the Baltic States from Soviet domination and blockade. Thereafter he quantified the risk associated with possible European military action to halt the genocide in North Africa. Returning to the United States, Marv, as a civilian, championed the idea of introducing small, remotely-piloted air vehicles into combat. The Defense Department sent Marv to NATO to explain how these aircraft can multiply combat power, employing tactics that Marv innovated. An entrepreneur, Marv founded two successful companies. Martin and Stern, Inc., a developer of special-purpose computers, was acquired by a public corporation three years following its founding. Thereafter, he founded CSG, Command Systems Group, Inc. It was at CSG that the Star
