About this ebook

‘To listen to South Australian poet Airlie Jane Kirkham’s latest collection is to listen to a musical mind at work. I greatly admire the way in which her poems evoke such delight in the life forces of nature, despite the restrictions of her own reality. Her description of the simple beauty of the natural world and the permutations of

    Foreword

I have been writing poetry for many years. It has been a great form of rehabilitation for me, the fulfilment of a dream that I had not lost my literary skill in my accident.

Some of my earliest poems were written after I relearnt to write. Since then I have mingled with a wide range of poets, through joining the group Poets of Passion and attending poetry readings.

This collection has been developed over the last fifteen years. I have learnt much from many people and it has helped my dream come true. There are many gems in my poetry which, I hope, will stimulate the reader to see things in the natural world differently.

My poems are paintings in a kaleidoscope of tales, themes and colours, hence the title A Kaleidoscope of Paintings. As Mary Taylor from the Poet’s Corner, Effective Living Centre, said to me, ‘You are an artist, a painter in words.’
