- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A good book to read in just a sitting or two. I have so little time to read these days that I find books like [Limboland] exceptional--rarely do I afford the effort. {Goodison] proved this reading effortless.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Somehow it got lost in my email and my review is delayed so my apologies to the author. I really enjoyed this story. Such a fascinating concept. I couldn't put it down and had to talk through it with my husband when I finished reading it. I'm most definitely going to read others by her. Highly recommend if you want something a little different that will make you think.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Limboland is an interesting medical thriller about 2 girls and the unique connection they have. After Chelsa is hit by a car, she basically becomes a vegetable and her parents decide to turn off the life support. After the machines are turned off, Chelsa keeps living, and her father dedicates his life to finding a way to wake Chelsa up. Little Sienna starts having fainting spells, and no one can explain why. Her parents don't understand and doctors cannot find anything medically wrong with her. Enter Rand Morrissey, a psychiatrist with his own issues. He normally doesn't work with children, but agrees to see Sienna. At first his sessions with her bring more questions than answers, but then Rand does some research and discovers a connection between Chelsa and Sienna. He believes he's found a way to help both girls, but it sounds completely crazy. How will he convince their parents to let him try his theory before it's too late? The more I read this book, the more into it I got. There were some interesting themes in it that I wouldn't expect to find in a medical thriller, and the characters are written very well. Although it is the 2nd book in the St. Augustus Chronicles, it works as a stand alone.I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Leigh Goodison has written another decent book. The two main characters have enough backstory to flesh them out as real. The story also moves along fast enough to keep you involved. The reincarnation aspect of the story was a tad bit out there but the ending did catch me off guard. But I willingly admit it was the way it should have ended. Like the early book The Jigsaw Man, I think there is more that could have been explored.I wish to thank LibraryThing for my advanced reader copy in exchange for this review.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I thought it was pretty well written (hence the 4 stars) but I didn't really like it much. I just was never convinced by it, never really accepted the premise and I found the ending to be especially unsatisfying. It didn't fall in very well with my understanding of that character, plus it felt like there should have been some tie in or hints to how this ending affected the main character's conclusions. Basically, I rated it higher than I normally would have because (a) I thought it was written pretty well and was easy to read and (b) part of my dissatisfaction is that I don't like stories that don't end with explicit conclusions. I feel let down when authors leave things unsaid.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A well written, sophiscated tale that twists and turns melding mystical and psychological theory with the wild card of people with imperfect characters and human relationships.
