My Township Reading Club

Author Ezekiel Khunou had never been a part of a reading club until he started his own. He was not that fortunate and he sees it as one of the childhood wonders he missed out on. Conducting his own club was a duty at first but it soon became a dream come true. What made it even more special was that he got to share his dream with others. Now his club members will have a different story to tell than he did. They can one day look back and say, “From our community we know a brother who tried.”

Many of the children in Ezekiel’s reading club are more disadvantaged than he was, but he was able to change their narrative; he did something. The story of his life will not be theirs, but in it they will find inspiration and the author considers that to be his victory.

The liberation found through literacy is immeasurable. The author asks readers of his work to seek to empower the children in their communities. He encourages them to invest in the promotion and love of reading by establishing a magical space of growth and care, a reading club.
